View Full Version : WTF is up with the tags?
MazdaManiac 07-11-2011, 07:00 PM Seriously.
There is all kinds of crap in the tags of various threads and I don't understand how it gets there, how it can be contributed to and how it can be edited.
What am I missing here?
zoom44 07-11-2011, 10:01 PM truthfully i gave up on the tags along time ago. there was a time i spent a good deal of time on them. and tagging changed in the vbulletin and everything i had done was undone. plus there were then like 10k tags with no way to prune them but go thru 100 at a time page by page.
i havent even looked at it in probably 2 years.
MazdaManiac 07-11-2011, 10:45 PM Well, they range from misleading to flat out offensive.
Jedi54 07-11-2011, 11:01 PM can we just turn them off again?
pdxhak 07-11-2011, 11:13 PM Did not realize they turned them back on. Best to just leave them off because most just add tags to be funny. The last thing this site needs is more crap to keep track of and make it slower.
MazdaManiac 07-12-2011, 12:43 AM I don't even think there is a way to add tags manually as a user. Is there? I can't find it.
Jedi54 07-12-2011, 01:01 AM Mm, that got disabled a while back.

Well, then tell me how these tags are being added?
There are tags in some threads that have absolutely nothing to do with the threads. They even contain words that are never used in the threads.
There is a thread out there that has tags that add up to my own home address!
Seriously!
WTF?

I believe vBulletin picks up words, it believes are significant, and inserts them into the tags area in an attempt to make searching for something easier.
Give us the thread this is happening in and we can remove the tags to protect your privacy.

That would be logical.
So, how does it get words that are NOT anywhere in the thread?

:dunno:, magic? I've never needed to dig into vBulletin to figure out how it works.
TeamRX8 07-12-2011, 12:48 PM somebody registered some of them as user names, you're a popular guy lol
Jedi54 07-12-2011, 12:55 PM haha, I remember someone did that with Stealth as well.
**cough cough** Eviltwinkie **cough cough**
at least... I think it was him....
MazdaManiac 07-12-2011, 04:20 PM somebody registered some of them as user names, you're a popular guy lol
Yeah, that was that nut-case from Vegas with the SS Camaro and an RX-8 that was trying to sell a jacked-up ignition system (DSMKilla).
He kept changing his ip and re-registering under different user names so he could start a "lets anal-rape MazdaManiac" thread. 34 times.
I had to get my own test forum area to accumulate all the evidence for the Utah police when they went to pick him up. Parole violations are a b*tch.
alnielsen 07-12-2011, 04:59 PM So that's why that forum is sitting there.
