View Full Version : Who's going to the Toronto autoshow
Evolv 01-25-2003, 06:29 PM Lets see a show of hands.
Who's planning on attending the Toronto International Auto Show http://www.autoshow.ca/ February 14-23.
I am. Just have to finalize the flights and dates.
I have full intentions on taking 100's of pictures of the RX-8. Got any wishes?
ZoomZoom 01-25-2003, 08:00 PM Even though I have been to the Detroit auto show I am still planning to attend the Toronto show. It's a ritual that I do every year.
funksoulbrother 01-25-2003, 09:37 PM I'll be there for sure... I'd just like them to update their website to see if there is any day that the RX-8 wouldn't be shown. Nobody has any exact info eh?
ZoomZoom 01-25-2003, 10:06 PM It appears that the RX-8 production prototype will make its Canadian debut at the 2003 Canadian International Autoshow.
"Among the new production vehicles that will be exhibited, look for the twin-rotor Mazda RX-8, a stunning 4-door sports coupe, and the second generation Dodge Viper SRT-10..."
Click here (http://www.autoshow.ca/downloads/showbiz_dec2002.pdf) for additional show information.
There is no mention of a limited appearance so let's all hope it will be there for the entire show this year. At last years show the yellow prototype was spinning on the turntable only for the first three days of the show... it was love at first site.
And once again Nissan has come through with free parking vouchers with your paid admission, adults $18.00.
i will be there on feb. 15
Evolv 01-27-2003, 06:15 PM I called Mazda Customer Service number today to find out whether the 8 will be at the show the whole time and if it is going to be possible to sit in it, touch it, taste it and take pics.
The car will definately be there for the whole show, and its suppose to be a production model. They are going to get back to me to advise whether we can sit in it.. Once I know I will post the info here..
cya at the show
:D
Grimace 01-27-2003, 06:56 PM I will be there on the last saturday. I'll wear a purple sweater. :)

Heavenscent 01-27-2003, 10:11 PM I'll try to be there this year....missed last year's and the year before... :(
My wish is to have my Nikon D1X before I head down to the Auto Show :) Planning to take more than 100 pics too :)
If not...I'll just have to stick to my 3.2mgpixels
Cya there :)
Greetings!

Heavenscent 01-27-2003, 10:15 PM On that note:
Does anyone know if the deadlines for the deposit and pre-ordering for the USA is same for Canada?
The USA has 3 sets of dates ranging from Jan - Feb (ithink)
I've checked on www.mazda.ca but there are not much info for the deadlines, pre-ordering details..
Thanks
Heavenscent
ZoomZoom 01-27-2003, 11:07 PM Don't expect to hear anything from Mazda Canada until the Toronto Car Show in February, that's when they will announce pricing, options, availability, etc...
Evolv 01-27-2003, 11:23 PM My local dealer said he'd be happy to hold a $1000.00 so that I can get the second 8 delivered. Some other 8 lover left a grand earlier, so he/she gets the 1st one.
Apparently, there are no custom pre-orders being accepted. I think it has something to do with the fact that the choices are limited to two options, with 6 exterior colours.
See my post http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2221
If you do place an order early, I am sure they will guarantee you're preferred colour and package (GT or GS) choice.

All I have is a 2.1 Mega pixels camera, but thats more then adequate for internet images and a 128 meg smart card :D
loungeliz 01-28-2003, 09:42 AM I'm definately there.... but you guys better get your pics before I get there, the cars might have my drool all over them...
BTW, use your connections... you guys are all car buffs, don't pay the full $18 price for the auto show...
If you have friends working at car companies they can get them for $10 (at least that is what a friend working at DCX told me).
I ordered mine for $12 through a friends Rec club at work.
Failing getting a discount ticket, I'm sure there will be coupons in the Star/Sun for at least a couple bucks off of the full $18 price.
Unfortunately this year I have to pay, every other year GM sends me a pair of free tickets due to my GM visa card, but GM better start making some appealing cars if they want me to spend my $3,000 in GM visa money... Now I smartened up, I'm collecting PC points... everyone's gotta eat...
BTW 2, I'm now Kyoto friendly. Lease was up on the Expedition yesterday... Handed back the keys.
The way things were supposed to work was that my Expedition lease was supposed to expire just as the RX-8 was hitting the market. Unfortunately that did not happen, and I had to get the C class...
Question: Does anyone know if dealers are in the habit of buying leases out? eg. Say the RX-8 is a must have car and I can't wait 3yrs for an RX-8. Could I go to the Mazda dealer and say "Take the Benz off my hands and I'll take a RX-8"?
I know I could always go to lease busters and unload the Benz, but I need a low hassle transaction, don't have the time for that... I need one stop shopping.
halfon 01-29-2003, 05:06 PM I will be there the first day of the car show in Toronto
Evolv 01-29-2003, 07:46 PM Customer relations at HQ Mazda Canada has provided me with the following information regarding the Auto Show in Toronto.
The following vehicles will be on display for the entire show.
An RX-8, but it will be on a platform, so we will not be able to sit in it or touch it.
The X-Men RX-8
A Cosmos
The RX-Evolv (concept car)
halfon 01-30-2003, 02:03 PM At other autoshows Mazda allowed committed buyers with proof of deposit to sit in the car.
Will Mazda do the same in Toronto ?

Booooooo!
Evolv 01-30-2003, 11:12 PM After all the hooplaw i made about going, it looks like I won't be able to make it...
RATS :(
halfon 02-01-2003, 07:55 AM I called Mazda Canada and friday afternoon and they confirmed that they will not allow anybody to sit in the car, even if we paid a deposit to purchase the car.
I beleive that this is very unfair to Canadians since Mazda USA let visitors sits in the car in LA and Detroit.
Should we start a telephone and e-mail campaign to complain ?
Evolv 02-01-2003, 05:20 PM My guess is! No matter how much pressure is placed on Mazda, the car will not be made available for anyone, including those that pre-ordered.
I have a feeling that there is only one RX-8 being sent to Canada, and that is why it will not be made available to the public.

beast 02-11-2003, 05:08 PM That is unfortunate. I am 6'7" with a vested interest in this beautiful automobile, and I would like to know if I fit before I preorder. Bastards.
Then leave Canada! Nobody likes it there anyway from what I hear.
Just kidding, don't ban or stalk me :D

ANYone was allowed to sit in the two 8's on display at the Detroit show.. There was a third car in red that was on the turntable display. I'm glad now that I chose to go to Detroit..
Btw, if you are 6'7" I doubt this will be a comfortable car for you.. sorry.. I'm 6' tall and imo anymore than 6' 2" will start getting tight and snug, especially with the optional sunroof.
I knew being 5'10" would one day pay off. BTW... what the heck am I doing in the Canada forum anyway?
Sorry I am a spammer at heart, and I spam my own forums, so it is a habit... I will try and control myself here. Everything I have read has been informative and SPAM free! So... without further ado, I will shut it.
halfon 02-15-2003, 08:28 AM I was planning to go to the autoshow in Toronto only to view the RX-8 close by and possibly sit in it.
Any comments on the Mazda stand and whether it is worthwhile going to see just the RX-8.
Are there any informed personnel that can answer technical questions ?
Any comments from early visitors to the car show are appreciated

Mazda Canada told me that it would not be possible to sit in the RX8 or even get close enough to touch it.
For this reasons, and time schedule problems, I chose not to go to the show.
If I could have sat in car I would have rescheduled, and gone.
DAMN Mazda - Canada

Is the auto show open on sunday feb. 16 till 10 pm?
funksoulbrother 02-15-2003, 09:31 PM I just got back from the show about ten minutes ago.
The people there don't know anything at all other than the posted news release.
The car definitly looks nice but there really isn't anything special going on. You definitly can't touch the car in any way.
The overall show is great, and the mazda exhibit is nice, but you won't find any more info there than you don't already have.
The Mutant Blue looks damn good in person though
Ron_Jeremy 02-25-2003, 07:12 PM Hey everyone,
I'm new here (first post). I've ordered my RX-8 over a month ago at my local dealer -- one of the conditions of the sale was to be able to "inspect" it at the autoshow ......i made special arrangements with the mazda folks on the last day of the show (before moving the cars out).... even then, it was like pulling teeth but they finally take a peek inside and even sit inside it. I must say that the interior was just as impressive as the exterior (space compares to a BMW 3series). Even the trunk space was very generous. I sat in the back seat with ample space around me...the only thing that I found disappointing was the quality of the leather (this could partially be due to the fact that this was a pre-production model). Anyways, I'm on board for going forward with the deal (now I just need info on lease rates)....
I am so-o-o-o jealous!
