Have gas prices have been shooting up all over the country during the past month?
Los Angeles area prices are up 30 or 40 cents/gal since January: 87 = $2.09 Arco/2.19 Union 76; 91 about 20 cents more, respectively. Just last month I remember 87 pushing $1.70 Arco 87.
The past couple of weeks the increases have been most significant -- about a nickel every few days.
Supposely 4 out of the 6 major refineries on the west coast are down for maintenance instead of the normal two. Also, talk of the normal changing over from winter to summer fuel composition. I don't necessarily believe in conspiracy theories, but at one time, no one thought Eron, Dynergy, etc. were ripping CA off either when they significantly increased electricity prices.
This doesn't make the 8 less desirable to me, but certainly got my brain cells calculating the potential extra operating costs. I can mitigate costs by keeping my worn, but not beaten 30 mpg 86 Accord with 280k, when I eventually find the 8 in the configuration I want.
