Yep ;)
I've always felt like I needed to see. I liked sitting up high... or so I thought!
After dabbling in the sport coupes, I wanted something that performed better. I had the hunger for curves and only a sport car would do!

1) 99 Saturn SL2 (first job out of college)
2) for 5 1/2 years not in market for a car, but always a bit of a car nut.
3) Rent X-Men2
See car that looks very cool and unique- I had seen the 8 before but never thought much about it either way. Yeah, it does work Mazda! I'm one of those mindless dolts who falls for product placements I guess
4) Look it up, read the reviews, look at pictures, go for a test drive, find out I can get it for invoice, test drive a WRX, go for another test drive in the 8, and suddenly what I thought was just for fun turns serious and I read lots on this website.
5) shop around at various dealerships.
6) Put a deposit on a 6-sp BB w/Sport + Rotary, ETA March week 1

2. 1986 Honda Civic hatchback. Sold to my little brother, who promptly wrecked it.

3. 1989 Acura Integra. My first enthusiast's car. Sold, with regret, to help pay for a year abroad.

4. 1997 Mazda Protege LX. Basic transportation, but got me started on Mazdas. Traded in for . . .

5. 2000 Mazda Protege ES. My cheerful, tossable daily driver. Adjusting well to the new arrival . . .

6. 2004 Mazda RX-8. Best car I've ever driven, much less owned. Hope to have it 20 years from now.

1973 AMC Gremlin (wrecked two months after I got it at age 16)

1973 Chevy Impala (survived two years with a 17 and 18 year old me.) Eventually died and was abandoned in the Arizona dessert, after using it for shotgun target practice)

1972 Mercury Monterrey (dads car I borrowed when home on leave from the Marines)

1978 Celica GT, JDM (lived there at the time) with 5 speed and double deuces carbs. Blew the engine at 7k RPM and one quart of oil in the oil pan (did not notice a big leak...). Still drove it on three cylinders for several months before junking it.

197? JDM beater

197? JDM beater

1984 Ford Thunderbird (my first nice car)

1989 Taurus SHO (first new car-bought back by Ford after 35,000 miles, 7 months out of 24 in the shop, two clutches, one transmission, wheel bearings, steering knuckle, and misc other defects)

1989 Dodge Shadow (bought at an auction for half of usual price-had a salvage title. Note to self-never buy a salvage car again)

1989 Chevy Celebrity (definatly not a chick magnet)

1994 Mazda Miata (still have)

1996 Neon (stick without a tach. Note to self-tachs are a very good idea. Overspun the engine and traded it away before it blew up)

1995 Chevy Corvette. (still kicking myself for selling it)

1999 Jeep Wrangler (lemon law buyback)

2000 Jeep Wrangler (ordered special, including ABS)

2002 Saturn (turning in lease in a few months. Reliable, but boring)

2003 Audi A4. (reminds me of my SHO, except parts don't randomly fail)

Seriously considering an 8!

I've had quite a few vehicles under my belt for being 34 years old... cover your eyes- there's some ugly stuff on this list. It cracks me up to read about high school kids driving RX-8 as their first car, considering my first three cars cost $1500 COMBINED. Oh well... maybe that's why I appreciate everything about the 8 since I've been to the bottom of the automotive barrel as a teenager : )

'72 Ford Pinto - learned to drive on this rolling rustbucket bomb
'73 Datsun Pickup - Butterscotch paint from the factory!
'78 Toyota Celica GT - 200k+ miles- awesome car... miss it
'84 Mustang 5.0 - convertible, gobs of torque, part I - (virgin patrol!)
'89 Jeep Wrangler - Traded in when first child born - miss it : (
'91 Geo Prism - never changed the oil in 30k miles : )
'80 Chevy Monza - beater 2nd car - paid $1 and barely worth it
'95 Pontiac Sunfire GT - first year model- Olds Quad4 motor nightmare, but still fun
'98 Ford Explorer XLT - 302 V8 - gobs o' torque, part II
'97 Kia Sephia- bought new, owned for 9 months- junk!
'96 Mazda Miata M-Edition- Introduced me to Zoom Zoom!
'02 Ford Explorer XLT - Very nice upgrade from previous ver
'04 Mazda RX-8 - Hell yeah! I'm not giving this thing up anytime soon...
'04 Infiniti FX45 - Coming soon to replace the Explorer

Hey- another 78 Celica GT! Loved that car... Mine was domestic, but that's how my poor GT died... I kept neglecting fixing the oil leak (was going through 1 quart/100 miles)... I think at 215k or so I just subconciously wanted it to die :)
