View Full Version : Va/DC/Md meet
X-SIN-X 02-24-2004, 02:08 PM Seems the weather is starting to cooperate with us. Would be great to get together with fellow RX-8 owners and share Info on our cars. I am open to suggestions but I will say that this Sunday(29Feb) is looking good weather wise. Perhaps somewhere in the Tyson's Corner area.
TreknMazda 02-24-2004, 06:11 PM How about HIGH NOON Sunday February 29th at the large parking lot adjacent to Fuddrucker's on Spring Hill Road at Leesburg Pike (Route 7)? Plenty of room for everyone!
For those that prefer week night gatherings, the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington meets at the same location Wednesday evening March 3rd. Cars start showing up between 6:30 and 7 pm.
DemonRX-8 02-24-2004, 07:42 PM Make it so, Number 1!
JimJimElf 02-24-2004, 09:45 PM Sounds like fun. How long will we be there for?
X-SIN-X 02-25-2004, 01:32 PM I am game for 1200 on Sunday or we could just wait for Wednesday march 3rd. I am not sure what the weather will be like that far out but Sunday is calling for sunny and 64 for a high. We have time to decide and get a roll call.
MazdaManiac 02-25-2004, 01:50 PM Sunday noon sounds good to me.
I'll be at the MSCW tech night on Wednesday the 10th at Gaithersburg Mazda also.
TreknMazda 02-25-2004, 03:55 PM Looks like this is an OFFICIAL RX-8 meeting now! So come on all you RX-8 owners and enthusiasts... Sunday February 29th noon to whenever you leave at the large parking lot adjacent to Fuddruckers in Tyson's Corner VA.
Directions:
From the North or South take the I495 Capitol Beltway to the Tyson's Corner exit for Route 7 west. Continue through seven or eight lights to Spring Hill Road and turn left. (You will pass McDonalds on the RIGHT and Rosenthal Mazda on the LEFT just before you reach the light at Spring Hill Road) Turn left into Fuddruckers and then an immediate left again to enter the larger, usually empty, parking lot. Or just look for the other RX-8s.
From the west, take Route 7 to the second light past the Dulles Toll Road and turn right at Spring Hill Road. Fuddruckers will be on your left.

X-SIN-X 02-25-2004, 04:18 PM Great to hear. I will be there Sunday February 29th noon , looking forward to seeing other 8 owners in the area. Is it possible to get a roll call just to see how many owners will be out on Sunday?
Chieferx 02-26-2004, 10:19 AM count me in tell me when and where and i will check with a few other owners of 8's
See you there but lets all show up anyhow lets make it good!!!!!
Gandu 02-26-2004, 02:05 PM Is that really Captain Jean Luc Picard on this forum? He did say Make it So Number 1.
Remember the episode where he says Mr. Brocoli?
passionflash90 02-26-2004, 03:09 PM Nooner at Fuddruckers on Sunday sounds good to me! See u there.
TreknMazda 02-26-2004, 04:16 PM Count upwards five messages from here for time, location, directions and attendees. Post if you are going and I'll add you to referenced message above.
See all y'all there!

mm
DemonRX-8 02-27-2004, 12:41 AM When I went last month, the Mazda Sportscar Club had a whole room in the back set aside for them. Maybe they can do that for us as well?
This Fuddruckers is a great location for me because I work just across the street from it, it's right behind Rosenthal Mazda, and I live just a few miles away! :)

Nah, but if Jean Luc was to drive a car, I'm sure it would be an RX-8!
Chieferx 02-27-2004, 05:30 PM So as of now how many Rx8 are getting together this weekend
Gandu 02-27-2004, 05:31 PM True, I agree with that. Captain Jean Luc would indeed drive the RX8. But frankly, I think Picard would love to drive Dr. Crusher. I know those 2 had a thing on on the Enterprise.
Dont y'all agree? Honestly, Picard would probably even like to drive Deanna Troi.
Personally, I'd rather drive a Geo Prism rather than driving Deanna Troi. Hey, but we're not talking about me.
Actually, I'd rather a donkey than a Geo Prism.
DemonRX-8 02-27-2004, 05:54 PM Dr. Crusher was cute . . . for an 'older' woman, but it's only 7 of 9 for me! :p
DemonRX-8 02-27-2004, 05:56 PM I count nine RX-8's if everyone makes it - ten if Gandu is in. Gandu?
Gandu 02-27-2004, 06:03 PM Sorry, but you'll have to count me out again. I've got a lot going on tomorrow but I hope you all have a great time and it'd be great if you'd post some photos afterwards.
Enjoy and Safe Driving.
DemonRX-8 02-27-2004, 06:15 PM Me too. But the lunch meet is on Sunday . . . :)
dobe_dad 02-27-2004, 09:05 PM There's a chance I can make it on Sunday. Since my 8 is stock I'm interested in seeing some of the accessories and mods others have done.
TreknMazda 02-29-2004, 09:48 AM I went out to start cleaning up the RX-8 this morning for the noon meet and discovered some a**hole did a hit 'n' run on me last night!! Waiting for the police now to get a report. Just as the office pulled up he got diverted to a priority call. So not sure when I will get to Fuddruckers. Still have to clean the car as best I can after the police look at it.
DemonRX-8 02-29-2004, 11:33 AM Ouch, that sucks, man! Hope you can still make it. We'll form up a possy and go lookin' for that SOB that hit your car!
shebam 02-29-2004, 12:56 PM Wish I could join everyone; stuck in my office. And on such a nice day. What a lousy hit and run; hang in there, better days are coming.
Gandu 02-29-2004, 04:22 PM So sorry to see your rx8 scratched up. I hate people that hit and run. I hope you can get it fixed up real soon and out it behind you.
Someone hit my MX3 and I know who did it but I didnt see them do it. But I know exactly who did it. I even filed a police report.
It was back in September but it so difficult to forget about it.
Again, sorry for your car. Unfortunately, driving a car like the rx8 requires a lot of protection from assholes like the one who ruined your car. And I can bet he did it on purpose just because you have such a fine car.
TreknMazda 02-29-2004, 05:17 PM We had ten RX-8s show up for our little meet. Every color except Blue... you know who your are! Beautiful weather and good to meet the faces and cars behind the posts. Here's a montage of today's gathering.
Positron 02-29-2004, 06:57 PM Here is one of the pics my son took -

Positron 02-29-2004, 07:01 PM And Another -
dobe_dad 02-29-2004, 08:06 PM Here's a picture I took today. It's a little blurry. It was a lot of fun seeing all the cars today.

And don't forget the no show Titanium Gray owners!
Great to meet everyone today. We'll have to do another get together with a nice drive through the Shenandoah Valley soon. There' are some great roads to go zoom zooming through!
shebam 02-29-2004, 08:37 PM Great PICS! I should have taken one sitting in my office growling ....
Gandu 02-29-2004, 09:23 PM Thank You for the posts and pictures post the Feb 29th meet. Nice to see the all the rx8s parked together.
Did you all do a drive together?
What roads did you take?
What were other drivers expressions as they saw you all driving the rx8s.
Could'nt make it. Sorry but will have to meet you at the next one.
Have a nice and a safe week.
BYe,
DemonRX-8 02-29-2004, 10:16 PM Just a short drive from Fuddruckers to Chili's in Tyson's Corner for lunch. I could see people craning their necks to look the whole way, though!
Chieferx 03-01-2004, 09:32 AM The meet was good and the short drive that we all did was well worth it. Next meet I agree that we all meet and then go for a drive together, that will be good.

Oh, Titanium. Yep, forgot all about them...
I organized the Novemeber 1st Skyline Drive drive. We could do another one in the spring. Something like going south on Route 29 to cut over around the Big Meadow entrance to Skyline Drive and head north to Front Royal and I-66.
Positron 03-01-2004, 10:36 AM Trekn - can we make it that far without a fuel stop? LOL
Are you all interested in more photos from Sunday's meet? I have more of individual cars (what is the feeling on showing license plates?), but the pics need to be reduced in size, so it is non-trivial to post them.
mm
TreknMazda 03-01-2004, 12:53 PM Gas is cheap on Route 29:D
MazdaManiac 03-01-2004, 01:01 PM It was good to see all of you on Sunday.
Broke_Apex_Seal 03-02-2004, 12:59 PM Nice to meet everyone.

Are you guys coming in tonight for this meet?
passionflash90 03-03-2004, 03:59 PM Maximus: Can't make it to tonight's meeting but will be there in spirit! There will probably be a good turnout. I'm hoping for a scenic drive this weekend. It's supposed to rain on Saturday, but Sunday should be primo weather for showing off the 8.

Amen to that - just got moved up here, plus just read the thread. :( Definitely up for a Skyline Drive trip in the spring Trekn!
MTCD01 03-04-2004, 04:16 PM Purchased my 8 on 2-28-04. Just found this thread. I would love to take a romp through Skyline with other 8s. I look forward to meeting some/all of you in the near future.
I currently live in Sterling VA, across from the Mall.
Hope I can make it to the next meet.

oahudvr 03-04-2004, 08:47 PM Just curious if anyone meets up other than once a month at Fudd's. I haven't lived here that long and I just got my 8 in December, so I am still feeling things out.
MazdaManiac 03-04-2004, 08:52 PM Join the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington:
WEB SITE (http://www.mscw.com/)
From the site:
"MSCW meets at Fuddruckers restaurant (703-821-8582), 1587 Spring Hill Road, one block south of Route 7 in Tyson’s Corner (Vienna), VA. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month. Parking lot socializing starts at 7:00 p.m., indoor meeting follows at 7:30 p.m."
oahudvr 03-04-2004, 09:05 PM I did, I just curious if anyone meets anytime other than the first Monday of every month, you know to just socialize, hang out, cruise, share new info, etc.......
TreknMazda 03-04-2004, 09:41 PM Several informal gatherings pop up from time to time and have been posted in this forum. Just like the one last Sunday and the Skyline Drive drive last November. MSCW also has a scenic drive once a month, usually the first weekend after the Wednesday night meeting. For example, the next one (http://www.thewagners.com/ScenicDrives/) is this Saturday, March 6th. And there are other organized events like the MSCW tech session at Gaithersburg Mazda next Wednesday night. For $5 you can eat pizza and watch other people work on their cars.;) (Membership is required to use a lift to do your own minor maintenance due to insurance and liability rules, but you can join at the tech session.)

Yeah, successful but not much fun. We had snow/ice mix about 12-18 hours behind us the whole way across until the eastern portion of Texas. That being the case (plus additional snow in the northern portion of New Mexico and Arizona), we didn't get to stop at too many sights (read: none) as we came across. We ended up stopping in Pensacola to see our families for about a week before braving the roads heading north. We got to Charlotte and had to stay an extra day due to snow on the highways north of there (plus sleet in Charlotte that night). It was an experience to say the least. We're just glad to have dodged the snow bullet for the season. Evidently they're talking chance of flurries early next week, but that's nothing in comparison to a month ago. :)
