I'm thinking of switching to an electronic shaver and I thought it was the right crowd to ask because most of the people here are males(dont mean anything by it women). Whats your razor of choice? I went from mach III turbo to the schick quattro. I dont really know the first thing about electronic razors and need some guidance . So, Please fill me in on which is the best to use.

I made the switch around Christmas. Bought a middle of the line norelco. The first two weeks I hated it, but my face adjusted and I've been happy with it since. Best advice I can give is to just commit to doing it for 3 weeks, otherwise your facial hair won't take to the transition.

Get this one:
http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=F&storeId=11251&catalogId=11005&itemId=63174&catGroupId=11222&modelNo=ES8092NC&surfModel=ES8092NC

I own an older version of this and I have to say Panasonic makes the best electric shaver I have ever owned. Do not skimp either, because you will love the induction charger.

I also own the ES7024AC for travel and it doesn't even compare to the ES8003 that I use at home.

I have tried other brands (Braun) and they aren't even close.

seriously though, do electronic razors shave as close as regular "analog" razors? i can't see how they can since "analog" razors actually touch your skin while electronic ones have a thin piece of metal between the blades and your skin...

i've always wanted an electronic one since i cut myself all the time but i like the clean cut look and my 5 o'clock shadow usually starts at 2pm

I use a Braun (the self cleaning one you see in all the commercials)

As already suggested, you wont like it at first, you have to give your face time to adjust.

I got it mostly because I will shave in the car. On the way to work, on the way to an afternoon meeting. (when its already grown back) etc etc

I have noticed big differences in closeness of shave between the Braun and the Panasonic. Yes it is not as close as a blade, but since I went electric, I haven't cut myself. With some work, you can get baby skin close with an electric. I will have to admit my beard doesn't grow in very fast. One more point - the Panasonic is a wet/dry shaver, so if you are into shaving in the shower (I am not), you can shave in the shower without worrying about slitting your throat. To me, the wet/dry feature has more to do with ease of cleaning the shaver.

i was in the same situation a month ago. i had always used a mach 3 turbo to shave but wanted to go electric because a blade is too much work for me. i asked about electric shavers on 4 or 5 different forums i go to. i went with a braun synchro (what fan mentioned). they have 3 different synchro models. mine is the one in the middle. the only difference between this and the top line is the top one has an lcd readout and mine doesnt. so far i like it. every shave has been better than the last.

Funny, I just switched FROM electric to disposable blades a few months ago. I got tired of stretching and pressing my face so hard, and cleaning the scuzz out of the "blade chamber."

I can shave just as fast with the blade, it's smoother, and just feels better to me. doesn't matter which blade either, as long as it's sharp, now using the Gilette twin blade.

edit: of course I also have had a goatee and mustache for a long while; I hate shaving my chin 'cause the scars hurt.

Stick with the Mach III or similar, electric razors suck and they wear out quickly.

my advice, stick with your mach3. But shave in the shower! (with a fog free mirror of course!)

not only do I get to enjoy the hot water longer, I get a nice clean and smooth shave. And the hot water really helps to open up the pores thus causing less irritation.

I use the Synchro shaver by Braun and it has been my favorite. Very nice that it cleans its self and it works better or as good as any other electric shaver I have used. Highly recommended.

I used to use razors, but I would get ingrown hairs. I have a really thick beard, so cutting the hairs below the surface as razors due causes this (red bumps). So I switched to a Norelco electric - it's ok, but it doesn't get very close at all for me. I'm thinking of switching to the Panasonic Dag linked to, or maybe something else...

Another vote for shaving with a blade, in the shower. Sharper Image sells a great fog-free mirror that uses the shower water to heat the mirror from behind - one of the all-time great inventions.

Funny that we're up to 4 blades now. I remember early in Saturday Night Live there was a fake ad making fun of the 2-blade razors that were just becoming popular. The fake product was called "Triple Track" and of course it had all kinds of ridiculous reasons why 3 blades were so much better. The tag line - "Triple Track... because you'll believe anything". hmm... Life imitating the Art that mocks it...

Nova... if you are like me and you are a teen, you might get the occasional break out... With a machine you will notice a lot of pimples with a clean razor (change every 2-4 weeks) and the right shaving cream, your skin is a lot better off

wonder if there's permanent solution to facial hair.. these damn razors just get more and more expensive... and electric razors are also crazy expensive.. the cheap ones like the panasonic wet/dry don't last very long, and the foil/cutter refills cost just as much as an entire new one.

I've used Brauns for years, but I tried my Dad's Norelco with the shave gel dispenser, and it is way better - a much quicker and closer shave. But since my Braun quit working, I've been bladin' it in the shower. I probably won't go back to electric.

I've tried several mid-range electrics, including a Braun and Panasonic, but could just never get them to work well for me. I always end up back with my twin blade razor I've had for ten years now.
