"This 2004 Mazda RX-8 is a very nice unit. " :D Omicron 02-23-2004, 12:39 AM Breaks your heart to see this... but looks like the passenger compartment came out in good shape... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2462466607&category=6316 rx8revin 02-23-2004, 12:45 AM WHY WHY That's awful sferrett 02-23-2004, 01:00 AM That looks like quite the side-swipe... youch... I wonder what the other car/fixed-object looked like... Ajax 02-23-2004, 01:15 AM that's no sideswipe.. somebody hit that car on the side, like head on. It looks like the point of impact was right at the back of the right front quarter panel and the car either spun around and hit something else or the same car to damage the back right bumper and blow out the window. Either that or the driver attempted to wrap the car around a pole and hit it twice. Regardless, i dont think it was a side swipe as generally speaking you lose a LOT more paint in one of those and it wouldnt create such naty indentations on the rear portion of the body. Regardless, it is sad.. Very very sad.. Did you notice that the entire passenger compartment is in tact? That's pretty impressive for that kind of damage! MikeA 02-23-2004, 01:22 AM Now some of those people on here that wish they can afford a RX8. C A N ! ! ! ! ! ! ByeByeSaturn 02-23-2004, 01:23 AM Oh my goodness. At least the rear door stays shut, which shows that the virtual B-pillar design proved it's worth, although who knows whether it was was hit directly or what the force of impact was. It looks like the rear fender is busted too, and the force was big enough to flex the C pillar and shatter the rear windshield. What worries me the most in terms of cost of repair is that center console and parts of the engine compartment were twisted and popped out of place - the shock wave made it's presence known, esp. with that mangled center console. I'm guessing a lot of the accessories and electronics are completely f&#@$d. $5000 is the most I'd pay for that. XDEEDUBBX 02-23-2004, 01:28 AM well atleast it has one good side..he he..i'd buy it for 3,000 just for parts,, The Red One 02-23-2004, 01:47 AM OUCH! brothervoodoo 02-23-2004, 01:59 AM That thing is totaled. emailists 02-23-2004, 02:23 AM seems like a good car for the engine? WHat about that idea for a renesis powered helicopter someone was talking about.. heres the chance- I bet the other useful parts could help offset the cost vmiller6 02-23-2004, 04:14 AM that poor 8 is so mangled. it makes me sad RobDickinson 02-23-2004, 04:29 AM Engined probably 100% , I know a lot of peolple in the UK who'd buy a 240bhp 270kg tiny engine for £5000 never mind $5000 (about £2.30 now I think?). RX82004 02-23-2004, 04:55 PM Ya taht really is sad Sue Esponte 02-23-2004, 05:00 PM Yeah, I liked the "very nice unit" comment as well. Buyer beware though, even if someone's crazy enough to think it's worthwhile repairing this car some states won't register a car with a "salvage" title. -Eric Habeeb 02-23-2004, 08:23 PM That car is rebuildable if you has another chassis. Cowl or A pillar hits that crumble the dash *ain't* rebuildable. Guessing that the transmission tail housing is broken, although the shifter seems to be in the correct position. There is a chance the engine made it OK, but you have to wonder about the body moving so much around it. Haven't seen enough wrecks yet to know how the drivetrain holds up in hard side hits. In front wrecks, it seems that the motor is far enough back that the damage may be limited. All the plastic on top of the motor may be a bit fragile, the block probably is safe. That's a great parts car, possibly a good drivetrain. Rebuildable wreck, probably not.. zoom44 02-23-2004, 08:35 PM the hit it the front spun the 8 so the back of the 8 hit the car that hit it first. there are alot of useable parts on that car! doccable 02-23-2004, 10:02 PM Hmmm... fairly cheap way to get a Renesis. However, it is a bit disturbing to actually see the airbags didn't deploy. I know, I know, the recall is for the passenger side. It looks as though the passenger compartment held up pretty well. I remember seeing the photos of the crash tests, but finally an example of a "real world" crash. Here's the ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2462466607&category=6316 ILOVERX8 02-23-2004, 10:11 PM it consider total loss when the floor frame damaged. Habeeb 02-23-2004, 10:24 PM Yes.. the left side seems intact.. never can tell if the car is bowed slightly from the right impact... if it is straight and the drivetrain made it, it's a great parts vehicle. I see that there is no reserve, so the current bid of 6k or so is a buy. Now, if the bidding gets in the 10k range, I would like to see the car. See if the left side is bowed from the wreck. See if the drivetrain has come thru without damage. It still may be a buy at that price.. Zoom2X 02-23-2004, 10:32 PM Originally posted by doccable However, it is a bit disturbing to actually see the airbags didn't deploy. Actually if you look closely at the passenger side pictures, it appears that the side airbags did deploy. (white areas on the side of the seat and along the upper door frame) They have just been cut away. sferrett 02-23-2004, 10:44 PM Yeah - looks like a side impact. I think the airbag system is pretty "smart" when it comes to knowing which airbags to explode and which ones to keep in their wrappers... Zoom2X 02-23-2004, 10:51 PM The owners manual has a pretty good description of the airbag system. Basically only the airbags on the side that the impact occurs on (front, right side, left side) deploy. The front ones are dual stage and tailor their deployment force based on the impact speed and driver seat position. Ike 02-23-2004, 10:51 PM This thread somehow seems so familiar... <looks 3 threads below> eccles 02-23-2004, 11:24 PM Originally posted by Habeeb That car is rebuildable if you has another chassis. Yeah, you've only got to look at the picture of the misalignment in the center console to realize that the center tunnel - the "spine" of the RX-8 - has almost certainly been damaged. Methinks that chassis is a throwaway. boothguy 02-23-2004, 11:51 PM "..runs and drives"? In whose imagination? Kind of sickening to see a car we all know and love this mangled. Passenger side curtain definitely deployed. There's no rebuilding this baby... |
