So, I am in the early stages of planning a road trip. The general idea is for my wife and I to leave the kids with the inlaws for a week, and drive the RX8 from Auckland to Wanaka and back, attending the Warbirds Airshow, seeing a bit of the south island, and driving on as many fun windy rounds as we can find along the way.

We will be going next Easter, so a bit over a year away, but why not start planning early?

So, whats your favourite piece of road?

I think you will see some of the best roads to drive on next week if you are coming along to the RX8 Mystery tour.
We are having some of the warbirds up to Kaitaia areoclub on the weekend of 26/3/11, so I must admit to having two busy weekends in a row.
As for your road trip, if you are detouring via Taranaki-Fielding area theres some nice roads down that way.:evil_laug

Used to live in dunedin for uni. Went to queenstown and wanaka quite regularly for skiing/boarding.

Also through one of the passes eg arthurs or lyndis is quite good. I didnt have an 8 at the time but some stunning scenery. Make sure you take a decent camera and a lot of storage.

Instead of going down the coast picton-kaikoura-chch, go picton-Nelson-Lewis Pass-Chch, way more fun.

Take the right hand rd beside the southern lakes, Waitaki, Avimore, Benmore. Starting from Ferry rd. Awesome wee road, all tarseal, narrow and windy. Touge, without the mountains :yesnod:
