View Full Version : Don't marry a blonde!
Speed-ER doc 02-20-2004, 01:39 AM My wife took her new Lexus GX 470 to one of those automatic drive-yourself-in/high-pressure-spray car washes the other day, you know the kind at a gas station.
She wondered why it seemed so loud inside (do you know where this is going yet?).
When she got home, she noticed that one of our kids had left one of the far back windows open. These are the same kind of "pop out" windows as our RX-8, and the kids love them.
So there was a bit of wetness inside. But the best part......
SHE ALSO HAD LEFT THE GAS CAP OFF!
I said, "Wait honey, you mean the gas door was open, but the cap was on, right?"
"No, it was hanging over the door. But my sister said there is a little valve there to keep stuff from coming in."
I couldn't say anything, because I was in shock.
Anyone else here think that little valve keeps high pressure water from coming in?
Me either.
brothervoodoo 02-20-2004, 02:02 AM humbled and speechless...
Mockngbrd 02-20-2004, 02:08 AM there goes the lexus.... and it wuz new too......
u can add that to your siggy :P
rotarygod 02-20-2004, 02:50 AM At least you'll have a clean gas tank!
winebrad 02-20-2004, 04:42 AM Hide the RX-8 keys!!
RX8_GT 02-20-2004, 06:44 AM But seriously - I would add a couple of cans of fuel de-icer at least. My useless 2 cents - John
Speed-ER doc 02-20-2004, 06:47 AM Thanks. Any other suggestions? No problems so far.
jniamehr 02-20-2004, 06:53 AM I say take it to a shop and have all the fuel pumped out and then re gas... Or take it to any valet parking lot, they are experts when it comes to stealing/"borrowing" peoples gas...
babylou 02-20-2004, 08:01 AM Water is heavier than gasoline so whatever got into the tank was consumed on the drive home.
emailists 02-20-2004, 08:41 AM I'm sure there must be other benefits to maryying a blonde that have nothing to do with cars.....
Just dry gas will be fine......2 bucks:)
rxeightr 02-20-2004, 09:28 AM Those high pressure washers actually use very little water. What water that did get into the gas tank, the fuel pick-up line is high enough not to suck out the water.
Close call there doc.
Speed-ER doc 02-20-2004, 09:36 AM I am blonde too. I just asked my wife how much gas was in the tank when it happened (to estimate how much could have gotten in).....
She said, "I just filled it up dummy!"
What about those "water sponge" things? The de-icer is just an emulsifier or something isn't it? I agree with the last post now that I think about it, there isn't much water from those sprayers, mostly air. So I probably won't do anything, just plead ignorant if anything bad happens. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

he lives in Houston...it's 66 degrees over there right now...i wouldn't worry about the fuel lines freezing up, unless of course fuel de-icer somehow dissolves water
anyways, i agree with everyone else, i don't think too much water, if any got in there...and if it did, it would've been burned up by now

I second that motion
Smoker 02-20-2004, 12:56 PM The alcohol in the De-icer will break down the water in your fuel tank to prevent them from making their way to your percious Rotary Engine.
Dump two bottles in ASAP to save yourself all the hassel later on.
I guess de-icer is what we call "dry gas" here. It really works too. Cheap insurance.
93rdcurrent 02-20-2004, 01:29 PM Yeah it doesn't take a lot of water to screw up the fuel system. I would ask the dealer anonymously what they would do.
klegg 02-20-2004, 03:51 PM Post pics please...
bluesunlion 02-20-2004, 04:11 PM Not all blondes are car-retarded. =)
Good thing she's in a Lexus, sounds perfect.

RX-MEN-8 02-21-2004, 05:19 AM I am in trouble!! my wife just got extra blond highlights. I should have listened to my mom and married the brunette. Hide my keys.

Speed-ER doc 08-21-2005, 02:21 AM Ha, klegg was a horndog even back then.
No trouble from the Lexus, btw, and I never did anything about it.

nzarnow 08-21-2005, 02:35 AM Hey Doc, do you still have a RX-8 or only the stang now? Why did you decide to get the mustang after the 8? Just curious on what goes through doctors heads sometimes...

Cattywampus 08-21-2005, 10:01 AM well nobody marries a blonde for brains:D Sorry man. I am sure it was a honest mistake

The last valet somehow locked the keys in the car and left it running when he brought it to us, so we had a running car sitting there for 45 minutes with no way to get in until Pop A Lock came. It reminded me of the phone commercial where they dog eats the guy's phone while he is on hold and roaming.
h-khunterkiller 08-21-2005, 05:14 PM I did not read the whole thread, but the little valve does not whole liquids if you fill it up it will seep through it happen to me. not that way but I lost the cap and I did'nt realised it until the next time I pumped gas and it was doring raining season in florida. I did get water in the car will act lick is running out of gas i'm pretty sure you would have fell it by now stp makes a water remover gas treatment that worked well for me I had to use more than 3 bottles in total 1 per pumped

StewC625 08-21-2005, 09:06 PM I'd be highly surprised if there were more than an ounce or three of water in there - a couple of cans of fuel line dryer will do the trick. Your Houston humidity probably adds more water than that to it ...
I really can't believe I'm about to admit the next thing: tell your wife not to feel bad, while I didn't leave the gas cap off, one time (and not at band camp) earlier this summer, I took my wife's Honda Odyssey to the car wash. They had changed the brushes on this wash recently (a gas station one where you drive in and are stationary while the machine rolls back and forth and washes your car).
Well, the machine stopped right next to my window and without even thinking it might start up again, I hit the down switch on my window to reach out and feel the brush material to make sure it was soft and wouldn't scratch the car.
Can you guess the rest?
Well, if you can't ... yes, it started right up just as the window hit full down. Did you know one of those spinning brushes, if up against your car and your window is down, can generate enough centrifugal stretch on the brush elements to reach into the car and give the driver a wet soapy slap on the face? Repeatedly. And that the wet soapy slap on the face is strong enough to knock the driver's glasses not only off his face, but fling them at high speed across the car to ricochet off the windshield and fall down on the far side of the passenger seat? And that without my glasses, I can't really see more than about a foot forward?
Well now you do.
funny to laugh about now. My wife about wet herself when I told her.

Buwhahahahahaaha. Also Priceless. Did you stop at the carwash after a few cocktails?
StewC625 08-21-2005, 11:29 PM Man, you'd think so, wouldn't you. That was one of those total "OhNoSecond" moments - I put the window down, started to reach out and I heard this CLICK as the relay or whatever controls this thing engaged for it's next move. In that next split second (aka, the "ohnosecond" )I thought FUCK! this thing is going to start going!
Lo and behold, I was right.
Quite hilarious in retrospect. Glad I always hand-wash my RX-8 ... :) Glad I gave y'all a giggle.
Speed-ER doc 08-21-2005, 11:59 PM Great story Stew! Thanks for sharing.
I almost wet myself too reading that.
StewC625 08-22-2005, 07:26 AM Took much courage to admit that one!
foxman 08-22-2005, 08:34 AM She said, "I just filled it up dummy!"
ooooooo, I don't think I could resist that one, classic!
