I took this cruise twice last year in my SS and in my WRX Wagon with a small group and it was truly awesome. I'm giving you RX-8 guys a chance again to come out April 25th(Sunday). There are tons of straight-aways, plenty of curves with the addition of beautiful scenery. This is a great way to really test your car. This will be an all day event. We are aiming to meet at the Belvidere, IL Mobil at 10:00am. There we will top off our fuel.

We can definitely meet up earlier for some breakfast near the Woodfield Borders area if we choose to and then head out from there to the Mobil. We will be taking a break or two throughout the cruise to give the cars a rest and to get some lunch. I would suggest bringing a partner to keep you on your feet because it's definitely 4-5 hrs of driving. We will not be making all those fuel stops shown in the map. We will definitely have a great time if the weather permits it. Depending on the show of cars, there will be STi's, Evo's, 350Z's, M3s, etc...Here is the map.

If you are seriously interested, pm me or send me an AIM message to Shaitiger .

I'm only a half hour from Belvidere- this sounds like a pretty fun way to burn through some fuel- anyone else want to do this?

Sounds good to me! I will try to be there!

Can those gas stations really feed that much premium gas for all those cars :p ?

I would really like a lot more details. It will take me over 90 minutes to get there and 90 minutes to get home, so I'd like to know as much about the route as possible. First issue: which Mobil?

shaitiger

It's the one on the corner of Genoa and Logan Ave I believe. I'll confirm that tomorrow.

OK guys, I'm heading out to Washington D.C tomorrow and I'll be back around 6am Sunday morning. There will be two meeting places in regards to the cruise on Sunday. The first meeting place will be the Borders in Schaumburg on Golf Rd. at 9:00am. We can grab some Starbucks and then head out to the Belvidere Mobil. The second location is obviously the Belvidere Mobil gas station. We will aim to be there at 10:00am. The Mobil is where we'll start the cruise. Let's all try to get to the meeting places on time. This event is weather depending. Looking at the forecast today, it seems like we're going to have nice weather. If for whatever reason the forecast changes in a negative way, the cruise will be rescheduled for the next weekend or whatever date is decided.

Here are two links:

Cruise Protocol. Our F-body club used this when we went last fall. Most apply to our cruise but some will be dependant on how many cars we have (ie- space in between cars)

http://www.fallcruise.org/protocol.html

Here are the cruise directions. I will have the map and directions printed out but please print out your own anyways.

PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU PLAN ON COMING

FYI, FRS radios are basically "walky talkies".

Shaitiger, any idea how many cars are going to be there?

shaitiger

It can be from 15-25 cars. That is why I said for everyone to let me know if they were planning on coming out so I could get a good idea.

I'm lobbying hard, but having a hard time getting approval from my wife and son (8 years old). He'd need to come with me for the day if I'm going to make this thing happen. He's saying, with some degree of thoughtfulness, that he thinks he'd be bored to tears. My wife's not crazy about us having dinner at Hooters, either. He asked why Hooters was a problem at dinner tonight, my wife explained that there would be girls with not much clothing on, and he turned beat red... never saw him blush before. Pretty funny, actually.

Anyone ever bring kids to something like this? Is it an all-male affair? Any thoughts? I'm not crazy about him playing 8 hours of Game Boy. We'd probably need to bail half way through unless operating the radio, mapping our position and talking to his dad can be made to seem like an exciting way to spend a Sunday.

Get him a helmet and make him your rally co-driver.

I'm going to have to pass... got stuck minding my niece and nephew on Sunday. It looks like a great route, though, and I'm going to try to do it some other time this summer. If anyone goes, please post pics and a description of the day. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

I've been on the fence as well... but I have decided to go autocrossing with the Miata gang up in Zion instead. That damned Mazda Rev-it-up got my racing juices flowing again.

Have fun... I'd love to do this later in the summer or fall.

I wish the weather was looking a little better for Sunday.

It's calling for early morning showers on Sunday. It rained in the morning on our last outing and it got dry pretty quickly. It should dry rather quicker this time because it will be warmer than last time. We still had loads of fun. The forecast might change for the better anyways. The cruise is still scheduled to happen. We can all decide at Borders if we wish to carry on with it. Those who plan to meet everyone at the Belvidere Mobil, please pm me your phone number so we can call you if we decide not to do it that day.

I went on the cruise and it was alot of fun. I do not know if cruise is the appropriate term though. I rank it somewhere between spirited drive and stupid fast race through the wisconsin backcountry.
