Silver6 02-12-2011, 02:32 PM So I know there was an older thread about this but its been a few years so its likely they are all gone. So anyways the biggest reason I'm putting this is because I have lately seen a black rx8 that has been recently purchased in the same parking garage as me.(by hillenbrand hall.) So I was wondering if he/she has registered on this site yet. Just wanted to say hi. But also if the are any other members at purdue to say hi and maybe after the snow melts and its nicer we can meet up.
HWK11 02-12-2011, 03:01 PM that would be me. and im guessing your the silver 8 that parks in front of the entrance?
Silver6 02-12-2011, 03:33 PM Lol yea that would be me. I noticed you have a temp plate. You just get it recently?
HWK11 02-12-2011, 04:16 PM yea i got it in January. just waiting for the title to come in from the dealer.
Silver6 02-12-2011, 04:53 PM Nice. I only got mine in Nov I believe. Yours was looking nice. It forced me to get mine washed cuz I was looking pretty shabby compared to you.
HWK11 02-17-2011, 09:31 PM hahha my 8 is so dirty right now . at least your silver paint hides some dust compared to the black. where do you get your car washed?
Silver6 02-18-2011, 08:27 AM I actually took it to mikes this last time. But I dislike going there. I would rather wash it myself but between the cold and parking garage that's impossible. They have the underbody wash tho and my car needed that from the salt. Where do you live at BTW?
HWK11 02-18-2011, 02:19 PM Im live in shreve. Got a ticket in the garage.. Forgot to put my permit up...
Have u seen the gray8 with blackrims? I seem to see that car often
Silver6 02-18-2011, 08:49 PM No I don't believe I've ever seen that one. Yea that stinks. They check for parking a lot here its crazy. I got one my freshman year.
Flashwing 02-18-2011, 09:29 PM I hear IU has faster RX8's...
Silver6 02-19-2011, 10:38 AM IU only wishes they did. IU is very delusional sometimes.
Robert Ray 05-21-2011, 02:41 AM I live real close to Purdue. Like 5 minutes :)

nice. Im actually 2 hours away now. But I'll be back for next fall.
Gitfiddle 05-30-2011, 01:44 PM Sup guys, I'm gonna be transferring to Purdue starting in August. Still need to get my housing figured out though, all the dorms are on a waiting list :dunno:

Cool it will be nice to have another club member in the west lafayette area.

I think they all show up on a waiting list right now because the contract renewal is over. I was talking to the ladies over in smalley center though and they were telling me there is plenty of places still open in hilltop and some other dorms. Hillenbrand I know has been full for awhile though. I'm sure first street is the same way.
Gitfiddle 06-03-2011, 02:20 AM Ah it's cool anyways. I found a house to rent for half the price of the dorms and it has a driveway to do oil changes and wash my car :yesnod:

I might have to borrow that driveway lol. If you see a silver rx8 in your driveway don't worry. It's just me
Gitfiddle 06-07-2011, 02:10 AM Lol as long as it aint in my parking spot. Otherwise I'll have to screw in your rear tow hook and my front tow hook and drag it out of the way :D:

Haha ok that sounds fair
Robert Ray 06-08-2011, 01:20 AM I have a driveway and a 2 car garage that you guys are welcome to use for oil changes, or installing mods or whatever. I just like to meet other 8 owners and bullshit about cars or whatever.
Gitfiddle 06-08-2011, 01:26 PM Haha sounds good, maybe we'll have to have a bbq or something someday.
Robert Ray 06-10-2011, 02:52 AM Sounds great to me.
..::FueL::.. 07-19-2011, 11:53 PM Hey everyone,
I have a rather out of the blue question for you, but I am a Purdue student there and I got myself a nice internship that paid well. I was thinking of getting a RX-8. How did you guys and girls get yourselves your RX-8's? Are you paying payments on it? Or were u able to find a good deal on them? If so could you help point me in the right direction? lol I hope thats not to personal. I appreciate your help either way. Boiler Up!!
Silver6 07-22-2011, 12:43 AM Hey everyone,
I have a rather out of the blue question for you, but I am a Purdue student there and I got myself a nice internship that paid well. I was thinking of getting a RX-8. How did you guys and girls get yourselves your RX-8's? Are you paying payments on it? Or were u able to find a good deal on them? I actually paid for mine upfront. I have a goal to never get payments on something that will depreciate in value such as a car. But anyways I know most people are perfectly ok with getting loans on cars. And the rx8 shouldn't be difficult to get a loan on as it is still fairly new. As for getting good deals just search around. I found mine on craigslist in cincinnati (I know i butchered the spelling on that). So it depends on how far you are willing to drive. Be wary of craigslist. Occasionally there are scammers. Autotrader is a good site though. Also read the looking to buy sticky. Most important info is to get a compression test before you buy. Otherwise you could be looking at a new engine. They have an extended warranty 8 yr 100,000 miles on the engine core but you need to save your maintenance receipts. Anyways good luck finding a good deal. What year/ model are you looking for?
..::FueL::.. 07-22-2011, 03:31 PM Hey,
Thank you for the post, that was quite helpful. Right now I am looking for an 2004 RX-8 unless I could get a newer one. It does not really matter as to what kind of model like a Shinka or anything. I have been looking on craigslist and a few other places all over the net (even here).
Preferably, I want it to be a manual transmission, around 100,000 miles. Would be nice if its under bc of warranty. And as long as it is not pink lol jk jk.
I think for what I would be willing to pay I would be able to stay away from bad title vehicles (or at least I hope haha). But ya as soon as I get back I am planning on paying CASH. Because I totally agree with you. I do not want to make payments on a depreciating item such as a vehicle. Thanks for your help. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Nice to hear someone else in boiler country.
Best Regards
..::FueL::.. 07-22-2011, 03:41 PM O and also, travelling would not be an issue to me. I considered getting a RX-8 here in Texas, but out of state fees bother me as well as putting the extra mileage on the vehicle. Although my internship would pay for my gas back home :)
Also, do you think it would be wise to buy from here compared to Indiana where RX-8's are more popular? The cars here are are somewhat not as bad on price because the depression was not as bad here. But I thought I would get a second opinion. Thanks man!
robrecht 07-22-2011, 03:56 PM Notre Dame!
Gitfiddle 07-23-2011, 07:03 PM I had actually searched for mine all over the internet for about 5 months before finding the one I wanted. Rx-8s are very rare in Wyoming (I think I usually only see one about every 4 months). Eventually found my Shinka in Los Angeles with 36k miles for $9,000 on Ebay. I flew out there and the guy selling picked me up from the airport then I piddled in Los Angeles rush hour trying to get used to the gearbox with the stop and go.
Eventually I made it out of LA and headed to Las Vegas and of course I had a make a pit stop :evil_laug. After Vegas I head to Western Colorado and had an insane amount of fun on the mountain roads. Then eventually I made it back to Wyoming and bought my first mod as soon as I got home lol.
Gitfiddle 07-23-2011, 07:04 PM And I'm making payments to answer the other part of the question.

Hey, thanks for the reply. That experience actually helped for what I am looking for too. That helped a lot as far as knowing how it would work for when the time comes. I can only imagine how rare them 8's are in a place like WY. Glad to see that you got yourself that car. Is that yours in your post? If so looks badass. Not bad for 9k lol.
Silver6 07-25-2011, 10:21 AM 9k for a 36k mile shinka? That is a really good deal. Seems like CA has a lot of good deals. I always find cars out there that I want but am never willing todrive to get it. I only had to drive 3 hours for mine. Be careful getting ones out of warranty. Check for the compression for sure then. Good luck finding one. A lot of people complain about 04's but I have one and never had an issue with it. Good luck finding one. I would say you are looking at finding one in good shape around 8 thousand. Prob a little less.Just to give you a realistic comparison I got an 04 with 60,000 miles for 9 grand. And that was a good deal. I think Gitfiddle traded his soul or something to get that deal.
Gitfiddle 07-25-2011, 11:15 AM Haha, I just was really patient. Waiting for 5 months constantly checking ebay and whatnot paid off.
..::FueL::.. 07-26-2011, 02:08 PM Hahaha I hear ya man. It is so hard to wait. I pretty much told myself that I would wait until I get back home to wheel and deal. Here in TX it's much harder bc there are not as many places other than Houston that I am near. That alone with no transportation in the first place is hard lol. There in Indiana at least I have Chicago, Indy, Cincinnati, Ft. Wayne, etc.. But man o man a Shinka would be nice. Yes Silver, you are almost right, I am looking to get one 7k cash or maybe a little bit more. I would like to get one with less than 100k miles. I think I can. But ya, I have been checkin on here a lot. This seems to be the best place as far as realism is concerned to getting a RX-8. Damn dealerships are always boosting the price way above normal. I also want a pure stock RX-8 (no mods). I know it would be better that way. Keep up with the good info guys you def have helped me out mentally at trying to proceed in finding myself a RX-8. Hopefully will not be long and I will be in one :).
Best Regards
..::FueL::.. 07-26-2011, 02:20 PM Also, if you all could be totally honest with me as I know I will probably get some biased answers on here but I would like to get some opinions on some car comparisons on another car that I have been looking at getting as well. But an RX-8 is def my number one pick of these 2. I have been looking into getting an Acura RSX Type S. Would you still pick your RX-8 over them cars from what you have heard or seen? I know some of you might be like "well ofc the RX-8 lol" but I know some of you might have not even driven one let alone really compare the 2. Just a thought. Give me some words of wisdom if you can :) Thanks all for your help and considerable hospitality.
Silver6 07-27-2011, 10:22 AM One of my good friends had an rsx type s. All around it is a good car. It is definitely more reliable. However the handling isn't very good at all. The biggest reason I would never choose a type s over my rx8 is the rwd vs fwd. After I've gone to rwd I can never switch back and be happy with my car. It just depends on what you are looking for. An rx8 with almost 100k you are prob going to have to work on it occassionally and you will get to know your car a lot better. If you want a car you never want to pop the hood on then i would say get the type s. The rx8 is more of a drivers car though and i think you would enjoy driving it so much more. However you should test drive both and see what you think
Silver6 07-27-2011, 10:25 AM Btw i have actually driven his type s lol.
..::FueL::.. 07-28-2011, 08:27 AM Ya I hear ya man lol. Being under the hood at the car is no problem for me. I just wanted a nice sounding and smoothing running machine. I guess all in all, I hear the RX8 is a nice car even though you have to do routine maintenance. But the RSX Type S is a car that runs damn good. But ya, they were both comparable and wanted to ask. I appreciate your response. It was very helpful. Although I am really hoping to get under the 100k mark on the car. As soon as I get back in 2 weeks I am going to go car searching big time.
I also have another question. I was actually going through some links for the RX8 and saw that sometimes the 04 can flood. Is this really a problem in the RX8 community at all? I mean I have no problem wrenching on the car, but would hate to have to keep replacing the engine even though it would still be under that 100k mile warrenty. What do you think? Do any of you (including Silver6) have this problem? Could you tell me anything as far as maybe a daily, weekly, monthly basis problem that you might be having on your car? Is anything an over hassle? I am not talking about oil or gas or anything but maybe problems that bother you. I just want to see the REAL perspective of having the vehicle before I actually purchase. Thanks guy for all your time.
Gitfiddle 07-28-2011, 08:03 PM I personally have only flooded my car once, and that was because I was trying to start it on a very cold morning (like 20 below) and the engine was turning over slowly because of the cold. I was eventually able to deflood it with the deflooding steps and while charging my battery -.-.
Flooding is actually pretty rare, most of the 2004s have already been equipped with the upgraded starter which all but eliminated flooding issues. You should be able to check the part number of the starter on a RX8 that you're looking to buy to see if it's had the starter put on. However, even if it has an upgraded starter, an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure as they say.
Theres just a few simple rules for rx8s, they sound like a pain if you dont own one but after a week of doing it then its no big deal.
If you are needing to move your car from say.. one side of the driveway to the other, then try not to shut it off cold. Either take it for a drive around the block or go inside the house for 5 or 10 minutes and leave the car running, then go outside and shut it off. I believe that I've heard somewhere that the injectors actually inject more fuel during the warm up stages but I've never actually looked 100% into it.
If you get one, look into a BHR ignition system... they're $500 new or around $300 or so used. They'll make your engine healthier and make better use of the fuel you're burning. Chances are if you get a used Rx8 you'll be wanting to do a spark plug change anyways, and the BHR system is a better choice and comes with everything you need.
Then just some general rules to help keep the engine healthy..
Most people when turning off the engine like to rev it up to around 4k rpm then cut the engine - this also helps with preventing floods.
Then theres a saying in the rotary community - A redline a day keeps the carbon away. Once a day when you're driving, try to redline the car while pushing the gas pedal all the way down to the floor (and of course making sure the engine is warm before you do it). This might require a small change in your usual driving route if all you have is 30 mph speed limits since 1st gear in the rx8 redlines at 45 mph, unless you don't mind speeding a little.
This will help with carbon prevention which is the main culprit that kills rotary engines. Rotaries dont like to be babied, they like to be driven.. hard.
But like I said, it sounds like a pain but after a few days of doing it they all become habit.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. That was rather helpful. Normally, I know with just about any car letting the car warm up is ideal. But I can totally see why the RX8 would definitely be the biggest culprit of having this accomplished because the oil has to circulate throughout the entire engine. As to the part of whether the car uses more gas when it is started, it DOES use more gas because that is the toughest time for a car to run especially in the winter. Or at least I am told. I would not see why not.
But as to all the stated problems above. Eh, the might be a slight pain in the ass, but not bad at all. Especially considering every car should be let to warm up or cracking the engine is going to be on the way. As to decarbonizing the engine, we all have to admit redlining the car is almost impossible because we sooo want to lol. But that is not bad at all. I know once I get this car, I will definitely want to take it on drives to enjoy having it.
On that note, I also heard that during the winter the oil can turn a milky color, but assured me to not be alarmed; that it was totally normal. With that being said, do you guys buy your oil straight from Mazda or get oil from stores? The only 8 owner that I have talked to said he gets his straight from Mazda. Is that the better route to go?
I apologize for all the questions fellas. I am just excited to go out and get one. And do not mind talking about the 8's as they are an interesting and unique type of car to have. Thanks for your time once again.
Gitfiddle 07-29-2011, 03:18 PM Yes that about the oil is correct. Also every Winter I get foam in the oil which is slightly annoying because is makes getting an accurate measure of my oil level next to impossible. I do know that there's a kit out there somewhere which remedies the problem.
Also there is a thread with like 6 million pages of oil discussion you can read to decide what kind you want to use. The Mazda book recommends 5w20 but I personally use 10w40 castrol GTX. All I can say is don't start a new thread asking about oil, that's a one way ticket straight to flaming on these forums :eyetwitch.
Silver6 07-31-2011, 03:46 PM Gitfiddle basically said it all. I have an 04 and only flooded it once but that was because I did some maintenance on it causing it to flood. Just make sure you have all the pcm flashes and upgraded starter. And yes it does run rich when the engine is cold. And you never want to floor it when the engine is cold. With how our engines are designed they are very temperature specific and if you redline while cold it could crack a housing or break a coolant seal. As for the oil I always get mine done at a shop because it is easier to keep records of it that way. If you do your own I think any trusted brand will be just fine. As for weight everyone has their two cents about it. You can either jump into the massive oil thread and find your own opinion on it or just use the Mazda recommended weight. If I recall correctly the milky substance will not appear as long as you run it hard. I have never had that issue but I know the guy that owned it before me did. Keep lokking for that perfect 8 though. You will love it when you have it. GL with your search
..::FueL::.. 08-01-2011, 12:43 PM Hello All,
After reviewing your responses, I just wanted to say thank you for your time and help in trying to understand the mechanics and nature of the RX-8. It has been rather invigorating and I hope to cherish come this late summer a new RX-8. If you would like I could keep you posted and perhaps we could get together sometime. (Keep my fingers crossed lol)
As to an inquiry with Silver6: I noticed you were from Ft Wayne and was wondering from what part? I lived in Ft Wayne and then moved to Decatur, IN (20 mi. South of Ft Wayne). I went to Franke Park Elementary and Holland Elementary. Then moved on up to Northwood Middle School. If I had stayed in Ft Wayne I would have probably went to Northrop. Sorry for the life story lol, I thought I would name drop as it seems like it is a small world between you and me. You live in Hillenbrand? That is pretty cool, I lived in Wiley my freshman year and now live right behind the Neon Cactus in SugarHill Apt's. Anyway man hit me up sometime if you would like. I will keep you posted.
Anyways, once again thanks for all of your help.
Respectfully
Silver6 08-01-2011, 03:56 PM Yea keep us posted on this thread. And i went to glenwood park elementary. Then blackhawk Christian for the rest. Yea I was an ra in hillenbrand last year but this year I couldn't continue since I only have one semester left. So I'm living in hilltop this year. There are several of us at purdue this year though. We should all get together sometime

Indeed man! I will let you know.
I know exactly where you went to school. I knew the Blackhawk Christian school pretty well. I think we even played you guys in baseball. Good stuff. But ya, I hope to see all of you, and we def should get together. Have a good one man.

Nice. I played baseball my freshman year. State champions lol
Gitfiddle 08-15-2011, 12:22 PM Well I'm finally in Lafayette. I Spotted a Gray rx8 this morning on Kodiak at about 8am, then somebody has an 8 for sale on the side of the road with pinstripes. Thats the most other rx8s ive seen in the past 3 months.
..::FueL::.. 08-16-2011, 10:55 AM Whats up!! I actually got back myself into Lafayette on Friday. As soon as I have been here, I have been looking out the ass for one haha. You say you saw one on Kodiak? Where's that at? I am going car shopping today too. Just have to get motivated. Nice hearing from you.
I hope to keep in touch.

Gitfiddle 08-16-2011, 09:03 PM Yessum there's one on Kodiak just south of Sagamore, it looks a little molested tho. Its white with 2 red pinstripes, rims, and It looked like it was dropped some. Price was $13,000.
So today I look up on google if there's any white castles in town.. google points me to one white castle by the mall. So I drive there and see a orange and yellow painted building in the shape of white castle called the breakfast nook :(. That's like the entire reason why I came to college in the east. Time to drop out and find a college town with a white castle
..::FueL::.. 08-17-2011, 12:31 PM Haha. Thx man. I never even saw that one. But ya, I know there are some white castles. Just not near here. I know there is some over in Greenfield, IN by Indy. And I know they are scattered throughout lol. If in doubt , I know the store has some stuff from White Castle ;).
Btw, I saw a badass blue one parked at the Speedway on 26. I had to wonder if that was you GitFiddle lol. It pissed me off, because it was like putting chocolate in front of a fat kid. I seem to find many that other people own but none of the dealers have them lol. The only one that I have seen in the area is this 2009 RX-8 that has like 3,000 miles on it and they are asking $28,000 for it. Right now, I am just trying to stick with craigslist until I can find one around here lol. I have a buddy looking in the Ft Wayne area for me too since I am from there.
Hope all is well with you guys. I will keep ya updated. GitFiddle I hope that you find your White Castle craving soon haha.

Silver6 08-18-2011, 04:46 PM Never fear. Silver6 is here to save the day. There is a white castle. On 26 keep going right past the highway. It's to the right there. Basically in meijers parking lot. Next to dq. It's the other side of town but there is a white castle.
Silver6 08-18-2011, 04:48 PM I am only in fort Wayne one more night... Otherwise I would look for you too. If you need a ride to test drive one in fw I'm coming back labor day weekend.
Gitfiddle 08-18-2011, 11:42 PM Whoo I found that white castle on google maps :evil_laug I'm totally hitting it up tomorrow after I walk the campus and find out where my classes are. I can't believe I didn't see it before. Silver6, you sir are a god among men.
fuel, I saw a blue with one with flames down the side at best buy the other day - that the same one you saw? And just be patient, you'll find a good deal eventually :boink:

Pfft no doubt, I just had it for dinner, late dinner, and beer dinner
Silver6 08-20-2011, 12:06 AM Lol. I'm surprised they don't have one on chauncy hill or something. It would do so well with all those bars right there
Gitfiddle 08-20-2011, 09:38 PM hmm what is this chauncy hill that you speak of? I need a guide or something to show me the local hangout spots :scratchhe
..::FueL::.. 08-21-2011, 10:38 AM Hey!
Actually no joke. I literally think I saw your Shinka in the parking lot of the neon cactus man. I have been still looking. Right now I am gona go take a look at one in South Bend. The only bad thing about it I think is it has 117k miles. A little too much than what I was looking for but everything is clean, runs really good. So not sure.
THanks for the advise, I am really trying to be patient lol.
Chauncy Hill is right over by Harry's Chocolate shop and all the bars. Silver you are so right man, if White Castle was in the Chauncy area, our beer munchies would be all gone lol. Good stuff! Also, I have not seen that RX-8 at best buy. I was even over by the mall yesterday, but did not see it. :(
Hope all is well. I will keep you posted.

Gitfiddle 08-21-2011, 11:48 AM Last night around 7-9pm? That was me. I went to go see 30 minutes or less. Pretty good movie.
Gitfiddle 08-22-2011, 10:04 PM So I was driving home from class today and a gray Rx8 flies past me and pulls someone over. Turns out we have a undercover rx8 driving cop.
Silver6 08-23-2011, 08:52 AM So I was driving home from class today and a gray Rx8 flies past me and pulls someone over. Turns out we have a undercover rx8 driving cop.
That is awesome... If I was a cop I would drive an rx8.
..::FueL::.. 08-24-2011, 08:55 PM Holy shit man lol! Ya that was totally you then. I hope you did not mind. I was walking by your car and so I decided to circle it a few times and thought to myself where the hell have I seen this car lol. Then I began thinking thats "GitFiddles" Car!!! lol So ya. There was no mistaking it.
As to the cop RX-8 that is soo badass. If you go by our Purdue Police station, we have a bunch of awesome cop cars. I saw a corvette, camaro, and other stuff, but no RX-8 :(. I am interested in seeing it now lmao.
Anyway, hope all your classes are going well. What are yours and Silver6 majors if you do not mind me asking?

Silver6 08-25-2011, 10:15 AM Neurobiology and physiology with a minor in psychology. And another little fact about this semester I'm taking 9 freaking classes. Just added it up I'm in class for 24 hours a week.
Gitfiddle 08-25-2011, 03:45 PM I'm doing physics/premed.
Holy shit silver, 9 classes? I bow to that. I brought about 80 credits over with me from Wyoming but most of them were just electives or whatever. So I'm only gonna be having to take maybe 3 classes a semester.
Classes have been pretty easy here, just gotta get used to the 200-400 kid classes :Freak_ani
..::FueL::.. 08-26-2011, 09:58 AM Damn, that is a lot of credits lol. I was going to be taking 19 credit hours, but will be sticking with 16 credits. My thermodynamics and transport phenomena class is going to kick my ass alone haha.
It's nice to know what you dudes are majoring in. I was thinking about going Pre-med too, because I was in the chemical engineering program and switched to the materials engineering department.
Anyway, great hearing from you guys. Hope all is well. ITS FRIDAY!! :) Do you guys ever go on cruises in your RX-8's? I could not help but want to not keep it sitting there and take it driving lol.
Pce fellas

..::FueL::.. 08-27-2011, 04:05 PM Yo Whatup pimps,
Hell ya! I am up for going out if you want. What do you guys have planned for the weekend.
Also, tomorrow I am going to be going to take a look at this car. What do you guys think?
Here's the link:

The only thing that bothers me, is I am too much of a cheap ass and do not want to look at the CarFax, but it has a clean title. New engine has 15,000 miles. New tires. Everything runs good. I wish it had a sunroof but does not :( haha.
Let me know what you guys think. I ended up making the deal for $7200 instead of $8000. So not to bad.
Let me know if you guys wanna do anything. 260-223-7762

..::FueL::.. 08-29-2011, 09:56 AM Fuel officially has a rx-8 as of now ;). Turns out the car was pretty much spotless. I am loving it except for my newbiness of shifting haha. I feel so bad for the car now but i will get the hang of it. To give you an idea of how newbie I am at the moment, I decided to drive the poor little car with the E-brake still on :( lol. Never ever am I gona do that again. But it seemed to not rly affect the car. I was getting pretty damn good at it. Its been so long since I have driven a manual though. The car is a beast. I will send you photos if you want or perhaps meet both of you in person if you would like. I am very pleased with it.
Hope you are having a good Monday. Pce

Let us know how that car goes. Good luck
Gitfiddle 08-29-2011, 11:33 AM Grats man! I think i drove around with a perma-smile for about 6 months after I bought mine.
I'd recommend learning how to rev-match, it's friendlier on your tranny (essentially when you go to downshift the revs jump up automatically, all you're doing is pressing in the clutch then tapping the gas pedal to where the revs will be after you downshift, then you shift and let out the clutch)
After you have rev matching down then try to do some heel-toe to feel like a race car driver :naughty: It's the same thing as rev matching but typically when you slow down for a turn you downshift, so heel-toe is just when you're hitting your brake for a turn, you roll your foot over and tap the gas pedal at the same time to revmatch for a downshift.
Granted I wouldn't start practicing these until you have regular shifting down. And then I wouldn't do either of these in traffic until you really have them down, it'd probably be a easy way to cause an accident :scratchhe. But just something to keep in mind if you ever want to try and track your car in the future.
But yeah man I'd love to see the car in person.
Silver6 08-29-2011, 12:15 PM Yea we got to see this thing in person. Sounds like you got a really good deal
..::FueL::.. 08-30-2011, 10:25 AM Well just let me know if you wanna get together sometime. I have to actually go take some photos. Classes have been rough lately so I have had no time to get the pics haha sucks. I have been finding myself worrying about my 8 on occasion bc of how pretty it looks haha. Usually I have never had to worry about that sort of thing. But ya I'd Love to show you guys. Just let me know.
GitFiddle thx man for the tips on shifting. I will def wait to try those but I would like to do so haha.
SIlver6 I just saw your post of you selling your car :(. Are you just needing the cash or are you going to buy another car?
Anyway, hope you guys are having a wonderful days of classes. My classes for today are 1 lab from 1:30-4:20. Thats about it so not too bad. But I have to do transport phenomena homework :(. So hope you guys have a good one.

HWK11 08-30-2011, 10:46 AM wow.. theres suddenly a lot of rx8 members in purdue. i saw gitfiddle's car once. i drive the black rx8. everything stock for now
Silver6 08-30-2011, 11:49 AM Yeah I need to buysomething cheaper. I was expecting to graduate this semester but my advisor screwed me over so now I have to go the entire year. So I am buying a car like 4k cheaper or so for now so I don't have to be so tight on money. I am in no rush to sell it though. It's at a competetive price but it might not sell for awhile. So you guys are probably stuck with me for awhile yet. HWK yeah I've been seeing RX8's like crazy this year.
Gitfiddle 08-30-2011, 09:04 PM nice! we got another club member. sup hwk, you a purdue student also?
Silver6 08-30-2011, 09:20 PM ah gitfiddle you have failed to view the second post. He is partly the reason i started this thread because his car kept being parked near mine in the parking garage lol
Gitfiddle 09-02-2011, 12:50 PM ehhh yeah, sounds familiar, I'm just extremely horrible at paying attention most times.
Silver6 09-06-2011, 10:40 AM That's a nice rx8 you have there gitfiddle

..::FueL::.. 09-10-2011, 10:57 AM Ok fellas,
So get this alright...This has been bothering me for the past week or so. Last week I decided t go to my buddies house at home and spend a weekend home. We are going to Ft Wayne from Decatur, and this guy rolls up in his queer looking Chevy Cobalt SS. Now first of all, it's one thing to buy a Chevy Cobalt for the mere and practical purposes of using it to drive, Ohhhh no!! this guy totally thinks his car is the shit and everything. So as you know he sees my nice shiny blue RX-8 as being a awesome car to race (keep in mind, its almost dark).
At first I see him in my rear view mirror, and he goes by like a regular car would on a interstate Highway. Then he decides to downshift to where we come to a light. So they guy and I are stopped at the light. As soon as it turns green we start off slow. Then he upshifts then immediately downshifts to where we are parallel with each other. Now by this point I know exactly what the dipshit was up to, but he did not honk 3 times or nothing but then just takes off and floors it. So then as he is pulling away from me. I got pissed and thought this guy thinks he's all that.
So to make a long story short (keep in mind I totally understand how the mechanics work in both cars) the SS basically had more torque but when I decided to race him, he really did not having anything on me. Eventually I would have overtook him in the long run by top speed. These cars just have torque. Not to mention, I had 2 other passengers (-30 hp) in my car. So my thoughts were how much of a PS the SS really are.
So later on, from my mechanical/engineering knowledge, kicked in and I know that first of all when it comes between this match
A. Chevy Cobalt comes with 1. Supercharged Engine (2.0L engine with 205 hp)
2. Turbocharged Engine (2.0L engine with 260 hp)
3. Naturally Aspirated Engine (2.4L engine 170 hp)
B. Mazda RX-8: well we all know the specs of our cars
Why the fuck would you first of all talk about or even try to combine the 2 when one has a Supercharger/Turbocharger in it vs a car that does not (RX8)? Of course the car has more torque than the RX-8 because it has the bolt-on in the first place.
If I were to tune up my ECU with a Hypertech Meter, not only would I increase the power by 70 hp (which I advise you guys to do before putting on any bolt ons) but also add a Supercharger/Turbocharger on my car right now, my car would literally blow that little POS Cobalt out of the water.
So why the hell, do I see all these guys on youtube/web talking shit about how there little Chevy Cobalt SS beat an RX-8? So the end result was, he took off fast from me, then I got on it after he was a car length ahead of me and I still caught up to him. As a matter of fact, when he slowed down, my car was going 127 mph and I never saw him again lol. Funny shit
Sorry lol I do not mean this to be a heated debate or anything but rather just a way of sort of talking about our cars freely. Any of your thoughts are as always appreciated.
Tomorrow by the way I might be doing nothing, so if you would like to get together sometime, I am open to anything. Hope you guys are having a good weekend. Pce

Gitfiddle 09-10-2011, 01:24 PM Haha get used to it.. I've had from mini-vans all the way to corvettes doing that to me, sometimes I play and just hit the gas for a second but most the time I ignore them since I can't afford any tickets .
Tomorrow sounds good, hit me up. I'm gonna be wrenching on my car all day today. Got a long list of fun stuff... oil change, blacking my emblems, gonna take off my bumper and black out my grills and do some electrical work and figure out why my UVs aren't working. Give me a call if you want to come over and have a beer, I can put you to work :D.
Silver6 09-15-2011, 08:09 PM Ok saw two rx8s in memorial mall today. I saw a blue and a black one. First fuel you bought a blue one right? Was that you driving around the circle?
Second hwk I know you have a black one but It's been awhile since I've seen it. Were you parked in memorial mall today?
..::FueL::.. 09-16-2011, 03:46 PM Hey!
I actually only have been travelling down 26, but I did not pull into the memorial mall. So my car is kind of unique, my gas cap is Stainless steel looking so not sure. But ya mine is blue. I need to show you guys finally lol. Let me know what you are up to this weekend. Hope all is well

Gitfiddle 09-16-2011, 04:41 PM Im gonna be taking off to Dayton Ohio tomorrow morning for a rotary meet/drifting/drag racing/car show thing
Silver6 10-02-2011, 09:19 PM So unfortunately my RX8 is gone now. It sold this weekend. I now have an MR2. I miss the smooth quiet revs already... The mr2 has a bigger turbo, running 14 lbs of boost, and no cat. So once it hits boost it's loud as piss. But it is also fast as piss so it's a trade off. Unfortunately I never even got to show you guys it before it was gone.
Gitfiddle 10-03-2011, 05:22 PM A little piece of me just died inside :(... Jk Haha grats man, I bet that little car is a blast to drive.
Silver6 10-03-2011, 06:15 PM haha yea sorry. I couldn't resist the torque.. it was calling my name. It's running approx 265whp and prob a little more torque. For half the price of my rx8. I couldn't resist.
Silver6 10-24-2011, 10:52 AM Whoever has the red R3 on campus don't think you got away with no one noticing... I saw you stall it out on campus today .
..::FueL::.. 11-01-2011, 12:24 PM Hey Silver6!
I think I saw your MR2. Is it black with rims that have red pin striping on them? I noticed it also has a aftermarket exhaust. I passed you by and was staring a little. You probably thought I was a creepy bastard if that was you lol.
To GitFiddle. How have you been TJ? I have been laying low because money is getting short lol. I have to wait until next semester for some good stuff to happen. Whats new to both of you?
Anyway let me know. Hope you both are having a good one. Pce
Silver6 11-02-2011, 10:39 AM Lol no that's actually not me. I have a green one. I had rims on it but I put the stock ones back on. Unfortunately I have to drive it for part of winter.. I'll post a pic up on here when I get home.
Gitfiddle 11-02-2011, 12:14 PM Hey Fuel, Nothing much here, just goin broke also :eyetwitch. Gonna change my tranny fluid and decarb my engine with seafoam this weekend, see if I can get the fire department called on me.
Silver, I wanna see that car in person!
Fuel, I still haven't seen yours :stickpoke
Silver6 11-03-2011, 10:48 AM Alright It's settled. Looks like we are going to have to meet up soon. And if I was you I would change out the diff fluid while you're at it. Doesn't add that much time. I don't have to worry about that kind of stuff. Transaxles ftw!
..::FueL::.. 11-03-2011, 01:58 PM Hey GitFiddle,
Ya I hear ya, I should probably do the same. I just replaced my started, starts as easy as butter :)... We def need to meet.
To Silver6,
O sry about the confusion man lol. I was hoping that was you.
Feel free to let me know if you guys are up for anything

Gitfiddle 11-03-2011, 06:02 PM Yeah, I wanted to do my diff while I was at it, but it'll have to wait til next semester. I had to stop at $50 for 3 quarts of fluid for the tranny. Got red line, at least it should last until I have to bury the tranny and supposedly a lot of guys can downshift into 1st on the stuff at 25mph... I can barely get it into 1st at 8 mph right now -.-
You guys can come hang out on Saturday while I work on it if you want. I have 2 dates on Sunday so I'll be busy then.

Yeah redline is expensive. I switched my RX8 to redline when I first got it. You can downshift to 1st at 25 but it's not recommended. It should feel a lot smoother especially if this is the first time it's been changed.

Gitfiddle 11-17-2011, 10:56 AM I went to a meeting a few weeks ago and met some of them, they seem like a cool bunch of guys. Just havent been able to make it to any since from busy schedule. The meetings are more or less teaching presentations. The one I went to he taught about diesel engines, and I think last week somebody did a presentation on car detailing.
I think they also build a go kart for some purdue gokart race.

Some purdue gokart race? Grand prix? That's a huge weekend.
Anyways I decided to warn everyone. I went to an exhaust shop called neils muffler today. All I wanted them to do was unscrew a rusty plug in my downpipe since I have no tools up here. The car was in the shop for an hour and a half... They stalled it 6 times getting it into the shop. They accidently ripped some of my underbody panels so now it drags on the ground. They yanked a wire out of my water temp gauge that wasn't even visible. Don't know how they pulled that one off. I had a small tear in the seat that is now three times the size it was. And lastly the guy couldn't figure out how to turn off the car because of the turbo timer even though I told him how. So he left it running in the middle of lafayette unlocked with the keys in it.... I will never go back and I would suggest no one else going there.
Gitfiddle 11-18-2011, 01:50 PM Yeah Grand Prix thats the one. I'm still new here :icon_no2:.
Wow sounds like that shop took a giant shat on you.
Anyways next time you need something stupid like that done, I've got an ok collection of tools here. You can just buy me a 6pack or beer or something.
..::FueL::.. 12-07-2011, 01:45 PM Hey Guys,
Sorry for the delay. I have been so busy and not able to get on here as much. I have been browsing over what some of you have said.
As to the Neil Muffler thing. OMG man I am sure you can get some shit out of them. Just take photos of your car after all the damage they have done. I guarantee you can slam them against the wall. I would be pissed.
As to what GitFiddle said,
That autocross club sounds interesting and I have yet to seek them out and actually go to a meeting. For the grand prix, I can confidently say that none of those guys probably wrench on the go carts here at Purdue because my dad is the one who is in charge of the whole grand prix go carts facility. He has been working there since the beginning of this semester so perhaps they have before but not now. It is rather interesting, my dad has been doing some innovative shit there. If you guys ever want a tour and simply see the stuff let me know and I will put in the good word for you :).
Hope all is well with you all.
Respectfully,

Have not been on here for awhile. How is everyone doing? This winter is really taking a toll on me lol.
Hey GitFiddle, how have you been man? I was wondering something, I actually was wondering what you did to your tranny? When I seem to shift it does not shift as smooth as yours and I was thinking maybe what you did is what I need to do to mine. Any pointers? :D I could drive it over one day and maybe we could take a look at it? Feel free to let me know man. Hope classes are going good. What have you been up to? Anyway, I have been meaning to catch up. It seems like the last time we hung out, I became really busy afterwards. Sux lol.

Silver6 01-18-2012, 04:41 PM ^change the fluid out to redline synthetic. Night and day difference. And I haven't been on here much considering I no longer have an rx8 and I no longer go to Purdue.
Gitfiddle 01-18-2012, 06:39 PM ^ What silver said. You drove it before I put redline into it though, you should feel it now. Its like $60 to do it yourself though, and the closest place i found that carries it is racer wholesale in indy. But i also did a 1:3 mix of MT-90 in my trans fluid so it wouldnt be like stirring concrete before it warms up in the winter.
..::FueL::.. 02-20-2012, 12:23 PM Hey whatup Gitfiddle!
Quick question man, would you happen to have a car lift? My 8 needs a new o2 sensor (rear) and I was wondering if I could trouble you in maybe using a easier area to work with. As you know my area around the cactus is not the best place to have to lay to take that out lol. I hope I do not come off as rude or anything. If not, I understand, I am sure you are busy as it is. If its not too big of a deal I could come over whenever. What have you been doing? Anything?
Anyway let me know bro. I appreciate it. Hope all is well.
Best Regards
