Next to the 8, the Z looks like a big donkey.:p

Uhm... so what's the verdict? :)

Hercules

Oh and to point out the not-so-obvious, the yellow RX-8 pictured is the closest to production model, not the concept from last year.

The sign is in the door mirrors :)

And thus, you would be able to read German :)

yeah but the g35 is even larger (i think) and also has compromised trunk space at around 7 cubic feet. Mazda lists the rx8's trunk at 75.8 gallons (for some odd reason) which i think is 10.12 cubic feet.

Hehehe, no I don't. If I had it, I wasn't able to translate it. My German is very bad ;)

Well, the TT will come in last place for probably every measurable performance category, but they will point out that it has a nice interior...

Oh wait, did you mean which one will WIN? Hmmm.... that one's a little bit tougher, I guess we'll just have to wait and see... :p

Folks, we all must consider that the rx-8 is the only one with 4 real for adults places .

Yes, but for the sake of comparison these are probably the cars closer to the RX-8, though I'd throw in the G35 Coupe instead of the 350Z... but the Z is touted as being a better car and thus I'd like to see how the RX-8 stacks up.

Is it just me or is the production yellow different from the concept yellow?

I was thinking.... the great absent in this test is BMW 330ci (w/sport suspension and 18" wheels).....isnt'it?

yes that is the car i think should be in the comparo too:)

MattFast

Yeah, the 330Ci fitted here too.....but on the other hand; the TT, 350Z and RX-8 are real sportscars, the 330Ci is more of a GT, I think

Hercules
01-23-2003, 05:17 PM
330Ci only get 17" wheels...

Matteo
01-23-2003, 05:42 PM
No, here in Europe we have three different styles 235/45 18" wheels, you also can order a 330 ci with M3 19" wheels (225-front 255 rear)....a little bit excessive

Hercules
01-23-2003, 06:02 PM
Ah, North America gets only 17s.. 18s if you want a lower speed tire.

Not for 2003, the 330 sport package will come with 18" rims and a six speed manual and the SMG will be available also.

First pics from the article. It's a real production car (black interior), comparison done in the States (at Laguna Seca?):

Here some first words from the article:
"...The RX-8 looks lean but strong, as if it comes straight from the gym. The front looks like an old Lotus " (Hey, I said that before!) "and the car is very light: 1.330kgs. The car is very sympathic (?) and almost a complete fourseater, with a 1,87m man fitting gently into the rear seats. On the front seats the car feels like a wet T-shirt, with rotor hints everywhere... if the car needs 10 or 13l on 100kms must show a upcoming test...it's not true that the engine has no torque, it's o.k. at low revs and spins beautifully up to 8.500 U/min . Gearchange is the second best in the world - after the MX5/Miata. The ride is very good and the ESP allows little drifts..."

Some more points:
Lightning yellow is non metallic, four metallic colours are available ?
Engine reaches 8.500 U/min (?) but without a beep as in the old RX-7?
There will be red and grey (?) inserts for the leather seats.

I don't know if that's true, but it seems that european specs / colours differ from the americans...

I have just bought AutoBild. - What a disappointing review!
There is not a single word about handling of the three cars! Instead they complain of lacking noise in the Mazda.

It is claimed to be official but provisional. It refers to the 6-speed 176 kW version. There is no value given for the 141 kW RX-8.

I agree, you have to be very careful reading german car mags. German cars usually get a fairly big bonus...

They say: Result:
Respect, Mazda. A car that's different. That earn sympathy, price is good - mileage unclear.
Completly different: 350 Z: more powerful, heavier, more classic
Interesting, how the japanese have reinvented their models (ancestors).
Both have nearly no competition - Europeans are missing.
Audi is weaker, older, more expensive. TT get's hard competition.

so a comparo with no real result. sounds kinda wishy-washy to me. also why mention the the unknown mileage of the 8 with out saying something about the good or bad mileage of the others?

There is a table that mentions mileage, but in the review there are hardly hints that they even drove the cars. (Well, some.)
The text is not worth to call it a review.
