View Full Version : It hits the dock tomorrow!!
Gomez 02-18-2004, 05:48 PM Strewth, things happen quick around here....
Went shopping yesterday, grabbed the Ti demo and had another test drive in city traffic. Great fun..
Went to dealer B in the Ti, and checked out their Velocity Red demo.....Decided against red and returned to City Mazda...
Went over the figures, did a great deal, and signed on the bottom line....for a Winning Blue non leather little bloody ripper:) :)
Insisted on meeting the Renesis Master Technician (as stated in the salespersons RX-8 sales guide!), and chewed his ear for an hour...(Did you know that these cars are ECU programmed to run rich for the first 20,000k???)
Stole the owners manual out of the Ti and went home to sit back, read, and relax for the six to eight weeks I was told it would take for the car to arrive:(
Got a phone call an hour ago to be told that my car was manufactured on 22Jan04 and would be docking at Station Pier tomorrow!!!
Get it next week...
Nojooc, that Winning Blue buyers remorse you mentioned, I hope its not catching...
More news later...Gotta ring the Finance Co....
Much thanks to all at this forum for your posts and advice, this place has been invaluable......
Regards Gomez
Choppy 02-18-2004, 06:04 PM Congrats i know how you feel exactly, but i had to wait 3 months for mine :( eheh
Its been two weeks of driving pleasure..
timbo 02-18-2004, 06:18 PM Hmm, dunno Gomez, seems to me you're getting it all too easy. Another case of instant gratification in the 21st Century :p
Well, back in my time, we spent months with only pictures to keep us interested.
Of course, it shows, doesn't it!
Well done Gomez - I had the same crisis but decided on the Velocity Red in the end.
You've managed to get your hands on it pretty quick. My details as follows:
Production date: 7 Jan 04
Ship departed: 20 Jan 04
Ship arrived: 6 Feb 04
Delivery due: 26 February
I suppose they have to muck around with it for a few weeks to justify the dealer delivery fees. (Oh, and to install the badges, splash guards, leather protection, tint, etc).
snoo
vafuncool 02-18-2004, 07:22 PM Congratulations Gomez!!!
Excellent colour selection and no remorse from this winning blue buyer.
Enjoy your new car, you will love it!
look forward to see you on the road in Melbourne.
Tony
NickG 02-18-2004, 08:18 PM Well done Gomez and welcome to the OWNERS club!
I've noted a few dealers seem to like maintaining the impression that the cars are hard to get, in tight supply etc. I reckon this is an exagerration judging by the fact that I was able to order in mid Jan and receive a December built Vel Red fresh off the docks within about 1 week....
I was tempted by the blue too, but baulked because I wasn't able to see one in the flesh. The only Winning Blue around when I was looking was on a new Mazda 3. Looked nice, but ther'es no substitute for seeing it on the REAL thing....
Nice Gomez im picking mine up in about just under 2 weeks so ill be right behind you :D
congratz again

Comments from anyone over 20k km's???
Hymee 02-19-2004, 03:19 AM Great Stuff Gomez!
I think they probably run rich to 20,000 and beyond. The dyno I posted with AFR's was a little bit rich, but not ridiculous at 14,000km.
I would be nice to know for sure.
Cheers,
Hymee.

I'm starting to appreciate my colour choice since it grabs heaps of attention and I don't see too many on the road.
Congrats on joining the "Winning" team! ;)
Hymee 02-19-2004, 04:04 AM Geez - I hope we dont get some colour factions forming :)
RXE16T 02-19-2004, 04:08 AM If it's a "Gangs of New York" war you want, then that's what ya gonna get! ;)
Gomez 02-19-2004, 04:16 AM Thanks for the 'grats guys....
I was told they run rich to assist the running in process...
Also told that on an econ run by a Renesis Tech, over 650k's was achieved out of one tankful, four up on a Syd/Mel trip...
The WDS can diagnose a car that has the living daylights thrashed out of it , a fault code is logged at (or above?) redline...
Snoo, a three week wait must feel like three months. I was OK with the delay while the car was an infant in Mrs Hiroshima's belly, but having to wait for the adoption papers to go through like that would be hell:) :)
Nick, I had a real dilemma with the colour issue, I saw all the whole pallet on RX-8's ('cept Green), and in the end it came down to the fact that too much Red is too much of a good thing...!
I'm keeping the red XR8...
Timbo, I feel like I should know that character in your avatar....
'Snot a Canberra Pollie is it:D :D
Catch Ya , Gomez
Pappy 02-19-2004, 04:37 AM Hey Gomez,
Congrats on the RX8 and, of course, excellent colour choice! :)
When I ordered mine back in Sept'03, I was initially told it would be arriving in Dec'03, but ended up getting it the following week! Anyway, you'll have heaps of fun in this awesome car. Enjoy!
Pappy

Welcome aboard Brother Blue, with a little more support, together we'll be able to run this ship....!
oodlum 02-19-2004, 10:08 PM Dealer just told me my baby's sitting at the dock. Should get it next week. At least now I have the VIN, Eng # to drool over.
Went with the red because it just looked too good with the red/black interior.

"Ahoy there me 'ardies", oodlum, our cars are obviously from the same ship...Which dealer?
Capt'n Gomez
oodlum 02-19-2004, 11:42 PM Hey Gomez. City Mazda. Easiest sale they ever made. You?
Seems our 8s are familly - we'll have to have a reunion some time.
BTW, what did you let the "accessories manager" talk you into? I went for the alarm and the reversing beeper-detector thing, but I'm going to Tint-a-Car for the shade. $340 with 25 year warranty. They tell me they do a lot of the City Mazda tinting anyway.
Anyone have any experience with Tint-a-Car?
Gomez 02-20-2004, 12:38 AM City Mazda as well...."Susie" wasn't in when I signed for the car, but she's been in contact since...a few times. She who will be rebuffed.....:D
Tint-a-Car Formula 1 tint was the ace stuff 2 years back when I got the 306....It cost $240 inc GST, so I suggest you shop around...as I will be doing.....

Hymee 02-20-2004, 05:49 AM It is great to see a steady flow of new members ordering their cars, and getting into the forum!
Cheers,

takahashi 02-20-2004, 05:56 AM Well done Gomez oodlum... we should catch up sometime :p
takahashi 02-20-2004, 06:01 AM When I think of it now oodlum and Gomez... although I got the car though City Mazda ... I still think they are a bunch of dickheads... esp Patrick the Manager... when you pick up the car Gomez... grab Patrick the manager and see if he still remember me ~ the "Dr. Chan" :p
BTW the service department is A class there. Love them.
Gomez 02-20-2004, 03:24 PM Taka, have had no real gripe with the big Belgian.
I walked in fairly well educated price wise as a result of this forum (thank's DMRH), being confident about what I was willing to pay and standing my ground as he questioned my figures. That's his job I s'pose...It's my job to save a few bob for the school fees!!
Regards, Gomez

Have to agree. When I called up to arrange a test drive I explained I'd be bringing a mate with me. "Male or female" he asks. "Male" I say. "Well, your not going to be thrashing it. It's won all these awards so you don't need to test if it goes quick or not".
Edit: rude word
I think I got a good deal though - 3 grand off book price. BTW, don't you just love the yanks talking about their $25,000-$30,000 car
Thanks for the welcome everyone :D
oodlum 02-24-2004, 06:16 AM Got THE phone call today - my 8 is ready and waiting at the dealer. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Wooooooo hooooooooooo!
Get your call yet, Gomez?

Mongrel!!
No, Esanda stuffed up and failed to cross t's and dot i's.
The Belgian is aware of the situation, but it seems that they don't even have my car yet!!
I'd love to have it b4 the weekend....The 306 becomes someone else's nightmare today, and with 'Tish using the Truckster to transport the two fruits, I shall be on Shank's Pony.
Enjoy, my friend, we shall have to arrange a little get together and drinkee poo's sometime soon.
Gomez.
oodlum 02-25-2004, 07:16 AM Man, what a day :) They told me to turn up at 4pm but the 8 actually hadn't been delivered yet. So waited a bit in anticipation* and then watched it arrive on the truck! What a joy mate - I wish I'd brought my camera.
They unloaded it and it had - get this - 2km on the clock. 61km now! I'm writing this and still can't believe I own one.
* Peter C. at city Mazda was awesome. Not my sales guy but he kept me company while we waited. He obviously loves rotories and had me fully pumped for the arrival. Gave me some good tips and contacts too. Jay was a nice bloke too - all business though. I think Peter's still new and keen. Changed my mind in general about City Mazda.
It's worth the wait, Gomez (ordered mine a month ago). Looking forward to hearing your tales.

Congrat's Oodlum, on the delivery, hope all are doing well!!
Expecting delivery Mon or Tu.......
...Just got a call on the trusty Nokia, delivery tomorrow at 4:D :D :D
Yeeee Haaa

Book it in for tuesday, because I'm sure you'll knock over 1000kms before the weekends out. Hehehehe :)
Hymee 02-26-2004, 01:57 AM Tuesday?? That is a bit late isn't it? Or is Monday a holiday? Hehehe.
Gomez 02-26-2004, 04:22 AM I think it's a Public Holiday in Perth!!!!
Gomez
Gomez 02-27-2004, 06:20 AM Well, it's a beautiful thing.................
The shut lines are perfect, the paint is A1, unmarked, I spent ten full minutes looking for a blemish, and did not find one.......
The bumpers even match!!!
They missed my 2nd special key, and the dooverlackey that holds the drivers mat in position won't doover as req'd....But everything else works, is in top nick, and there is no sign of Winning Blue buyers remorse!
Bliss.
And doesn't the instrumentation look horn at night.....
Gomez
takahashi 02-27-2004, 06:40 AM Well done mate... happy driving :D
Gomez 02-27-2004, 07:50 AM Oh, yeah, it had 14k's on it at delivery....
Gomez
oodlum 02-27-2004, 06:27 PM Have a great weekend guys - I'm heading for the hills.

You read my mind, but I'm saving that 'til arter the first service.
BTW, any Melbourne folk been down "the Boulevard"? Just discovered it. What an awesome road just out of the CBD.
takahashi 03-01-2004, 04:05 PM Just discover it? Common.... don't you recognise the picture of my rx-8 in my website?
http://www.step-hen.com/rx8.htm
Mt Dangdenong road also very good...
Too bad I am in 12 demerit points and a very good boy now! :(
oodlum 03-01-2004, 07:36 PM Yeah - I'm a little slow. A motoring journo mate took me their on the weekend on the way back from Mt Dandenong, which was unfortunately full of Sunday drivers, L-platers, trailers, caravans...
Bummer about the points - very frustrating I bet.
Rosso Diablo 03-02-2004, 12:11 AM Thoroughly recomend the tint job guys. Really does make a difference on a hot day.
BTW has anybody taken the paint protection option and if not why not?
Trust Oodlum and Gomez you both had good weekends!
Rosso Diablo 03-02-2004, 12:16 AM Where's the Boulevard gents - sounds good. One of my first drives in the 8 was down the Peninsula and take the Flinders road C777 past Cape Shanck and then up to Red Hill - a great drivers day out with a nice glass of red to finish off at one of the many wineries.

I hate to break it you, but paint protection is nothing but a money making scheme devised by car dealers to make additional profit on cars.
All the paint protection really is, is a liquid wax substance which they apply by hand to the finish of your car and polish off.
The stuff is applied quite liberally and in multiple coats to create a couple of layers on top of your clear coat.
It has the effect of adding a few layers of wax to your car, that is why they ask you to go back for a inspection/rejuvenation every 12mths in the warranty documents. It's so they can re-apply the stuff.
Cheaper to buy the car and then apply wax and polish yourself IMO.
Hymee 03-02-2004, 01:31 AM Closed as per initiators request. Gone too far OT.
Cheers,
Hymee the Knife :)
