Hi all,

I am expecting my American Express cashcard in the next few
days and would like to spend that $500 at a place that does not
handle AmEx. Have any of you that have gone thru this process
found a good/easy method for converting to real money?

Thanks, Mark (Last_D8)

My experience was that I could NOT convert the card to cash. It HAD to be used at an establishment accepting AmEx. I spent my entire card at a local Mens Wearhouse for much needed clothing.

I tried to convert to cash, but my bank wouldn't allow it. Still have the card trying to figure what and where to spend it...

You can use it for Gas and at most food stores not to mention accessories for the car. Anyone having trouble spending it let me know I can spend it online in 10 sec.

Like RX8by says, just spend it somewhere you would normally use cash/credit, like a gas station, and use the money you save to buy whatever it is you want. There's no way to convert it to cash.

It is possible to get it to zero. I did it this way. I found a retailer with a little time on its hands (in this case my brother), and bought something worth more than the amount on the card (in this case really nice pearl earrings for my fiancee [brother is a jeweler]) then I called the 1 (800) number on the card and followed the computer phone tree to get my balance on the card to the penny. I then charged just that amount on the AMEX debit card. I paid the balance for the earrings on another card.

It took an extra five minutes to make the purchase for the earrings, because of the phone call, but that did zero to the penny the card. Most reatailers are happy to take two cards to make a sale unless there is a line. It's just the phone call that can be a problem, but you can do that in advance, and write down the number. Just a thought. - H

Mine is down to around a dollar something. I keep putting small purchases on it. Next I think I'll charge a pack of gum or something.

Paypal, my friend :). Add it to your Paypal account, go shopping on Ebay with it.

Or, have 2 Paypal accounts - I have one in my name, and one in my wife's name. My wife is set up with our savings account in Paypal. I can Paypal any dollar amount to her, goes right into our savings account.

Hell, I've had old roommates from my single days Paypal me rent from their credit cards!

pay pal takes a cut when you sell things on ebay not when you buy things.
