View Full Version : Burnout Body Kit
TxRx8 02-18-2004, 03:08 PM I'm getting my income tax check pretty soon and I want that Burnout Body Kit from Japan. Only trouble is I wouldn't have a clue on how to order one. I tried converting the price in Yen to U.S. and came up with $799.29? (Fiberglass). Now how do I get one?
mikeb 02-18-2004, 06:26 PM never heard of it
got a link or pics
TxRx8 02-18-2004, 08:49 PM Here's the link:
http://www.ks-auto.com/turning/original/kd4.html
Anybody read Japanese?
Outlaws eXtreme 02-18-2004, 09:11 PM get ready for shipping cost.. add another 300 bucks.. then another 400+ bucks for paint just to match your car since they don't come painted...
TxRx8 02-18-2004, 11:35 PM that's fine, I just want to order it. BTW I'll get painted for way less than 400.
Japan8 02-19-2004, 08:14 PM HOld the phone... these side skirts plus the air damn from the appearance package... that could work. The problem with the MS ones is the CF line along the bottom, but these are either FRP or CF and paint the whole thing.
Shocka 02-19-2004, 09:20 PM i like that front lip.. i just question the clearence. anyone got dimensions or how low it is to the ground.. inclduing a 1.5" drop would be nice since i plan on getting the springs soon
TxRx8 02-19-2004, 11:07 PM I'm pretty sure the "8" in the pic is dropped.
BTW this is what the ad says word for word:
"Does KD project 4 stage how the do the impression which has roundness actively sharply? it is raised to the sport characteristic Eextremity? as for KD IV those topics securely thoroughness pursuit. The aerodynamic characteristic of FRONT HALF NOSE efficient the rectification. By striking out simple & the high-class impression stylishly evolution. Also SIDE SKIRT sharp it emphasizes, producing the line which at the same time gives the sense of security. It starts making the flow of the ideal air. REAR UNDER DIFFRACTER while utilizing genuine originality that way, succeeds in the simple ria tile which has force. Furthermore the elegant impression and sense of value it is finished ideally with balance well high degree of completion without spirit EYE LINE making strange feeling feel. Preparing every part carbon specification. Furthermore it tightens sharply, with design work for the unique adult elegance it appeals. The style which becomes new in the sport scene was produced."
The context is weird, but that's what it says.
XDEEDUBBX 02-20-2004, 01:57 AM im beggining to like this kit... looks really clean..i would keep the front lip CF and match paint the rest...

exaclty what i plan to do
Anyone have any new info on this?
D MENAC 7 03-03-2004, 07:26 AM IMO, I would leave the entire package as is. I like the body kit in it's present black and think it looks nice. I have always liked black and color over chrome for body accents. I think it looks very clean as it is. The only change I would make is painting the eye lids, though, I didn't see them at first.
Japan8 03-03-2004, 07:38 AM I think this kit is intended to be used either way... in carbon color or painted. Personally... I kinda like it in carbon fiber... why waste the money painting it?
TxRx8 03-03-2004, 09:11 AM I'd like to see more pics of this kit. Maybe some photochops of the kit color-matched to the rest of the car. Anyone good with photoshop?
gunit28vp 03-03-2004, 12:34 PM hi everyone im still a newbie hear but if anyone needs japanese translations just e-mail me everything you need translated i have a relative thats fluent in japanese
TxRx8 03-03-2004, 01:04 PM Hey gunit, go to this link http://www.ks-auto.com/turning/original/kd4.html and find out if we can get this kit in the U.S. And how much it would cost to ship it over. Much appreciated.
TxRx8
AutoBahnRX8 03-03-2004, 02:00 PM Hmmmmmm, carbon fiber trim to match my carbon fiber wing!
(Not the park bench wing, it's MS style)
epitrochoid 03-03-2004, 02:35 PM IMO 'lip kits' are the way to go. you get a modified look and keep a little of the OEM+ appearence without it looking like everyone else with an appearence package. post up some pics if you get this!
D MENAC 7 03-03-2004, 10:42 PM I agree, I have liked the Rmagic lip since seeing it.
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rmagicrx8/ripy.jpg
Just the lip alone would be $400 after shipping. Then there is the painting. It's urethane so it would be better than fiberglass.
However, the total package of the Burnout Body kit looks very nice, IMO. If I had the bucks, I'd be interested.
Shocka 03-04-2004, 11:02 AM AutoBahnRX8, got any pics of ur 8 with the MS Style Spoiler? I am thinkin of getting the CF for my Titanium Gray just wounder how it will look

I have the wing sitting right here on my couch. Just haven't put it on yet! Hope to get it done either this weekend or sometime next week. If I can't get to it this weekend, I'll place it on the car and take some pics to see how it looks.

TxRx8 03-05-2004, 09:49 AM A CF wing would look very sweet with this kit. Too bad I cant really afford a MS wing, especially a CF MS wing! Who's gonna be the first to get this kit?!
AutoBahnRX8 03-05-2004, 09:51 AM Maybe, just maybe!

I was looking into getting the CF lip only (MS sides/ rear/wing). Found 2 companies that can get it imported for me.
1. http://www.jt-imports.com/U.S.Atop.htm (based in Japan)
2. http://www.rotaryextreme.com (based in the US, CA)
Both quoted me ~$780 shipped to my door. (only for the front CF lip) Can't remember the price breakdown, but it was something like 380 for lip +5%tax+ ~$300s/h+ other fees) still unsure about getting it.
Email them both to get a quote on the entire kit.
Also, I received my brochure from ks-auto last week. It has the same pictures as on the web but the picture of the front is much larger and you can see more details. I'll scan it tommorrow and post it here.
TxRx8 03-08-2004, 10:07 PM $300 for shipping! Damn, here I thought I could get the whole kit (not cf) for under a grand. Good find Adrian.
TxRx8
DemonRX-8 03-08-2004, 10:53 PM I'm liking this kit too. Someone find a way to get it shipped for cheap!
adrian-1 03-08-2004, 10:56 PM Reread the email quote I got from rotaryextreme.com (Chuck Huang) and here's how to come up with the prices to have it shipped to your door.
You take the amount in Yen
Divide by 102 (exchange rate they get from bank)
Multiply by 1.10 (10%tax ; 5 is japanese sales tax and 5 is import tax)
Then add the shipping charge to the US (about 200-250 per box)
(total of 2 boxes- they can fit the rear and eyelids in with the front, the sides come in a seperate box)
Then add the shipping charge within the US (about 30-40 per box)
And add 3% to total if paying by Paypal, leave out if paying by check.
I've done the math and the complete CF kit total comes to $2250.
The complete fiberglass kit comes to $1700.
(this is if you pay with check)
Email him directly to verify the numbers I came up with.
adrian-1 03-09-2004, 08:19 AM Here's the scanned image from the brochure.
TxRx8 03-09-2004, 08:25 AM Too.. much .....math ...must ... ughh.
J/K nice job Adrian, actually $1700 is a pretty good deal. Considering the kit is imported and all.
mikeb 03-09-2004, 01:03 PM the front lip looks like the mazda ap one
I like those side skirts
mdw33333 03-09-2004, 08:50 PM That's a nice kit, I'm intersested.

yo man.. that shit..
I love bodykits, but in United States.. Boston espically.... you are bound to break it in like 2 weeks.. so many pot holes and the roads are so uneven
AlexCisneros 03-10-2004, 07:32 PM anyone else think it looks like the MS sides, ings rear, and Rmagic front in CF?
Not saying it looks bad, I like it...
can anyone photoshop this on a sunlight silver? i think it will go well CF on silver.

How about trying it on Lightning Yellow?
Thanks
TxRx8 03-11-2004, 09:28 AM My first attempt at a photoshop :D i'll try the other colors later today.
TxRx8 03-11-2004, 09:55 AM Here's the silver
TxRx8 03-11-2004, 09:55 AM and my favorite ;-)
I like. Now if we can just figure out a way to lower the price to import it.
adrian-1 03-11-2004, 04:31 PM I'm still only interested in the CF front lip and hope it matches the black closely. Don't want it to stand out too much (like it does on that white RX8.)
Rev It Up 03-14-2004, 10:16 AM how do you think the carbon fiber kit would look on a black car?
Has anyone found a vender who sells this kit in the U S ?
Shocka 03-14-2004, 10:06 PM oohhh i likes on the Tit Gray
thanks for the photoshops
TxRx8 03-14-2004, 11:22 PM Hell yeah, thanks Shocka. took me awhile but I think they came out pretty good. Any others want some stuff photochopped? I'll try my best. Oh yeah, this kit F!@#ing rocks.
adrian-1 03-14-2004, 11:27 PM How about one in Black. thanks,

I ordered only the carbon fiber lip last week. Should arrive within 2 weeks (they are made after order is placed, not sure if they stock the fiberglass one).
Cost was $695 shipped (alittle better than going through rotary extreme or jt-imports, would have been $780.)
I was able to contact the ks-auto international sales rep. His name is Tak Matsunaga and email: takmail2@yahoo.co.jp Contact him for info/prices.
I also have the Mazdaspeed sides and rear on order through Rosenthal Mazda.
I'll post pictures when it arrives and also after the install.
-Adrian
Jt-Imports 04-04-2004, 05:27 PM Well the thing about shipping is you pay mostly for the BOX SIZE, NOT the contents.
So if you get a bumper, you can actually put 3 of the same bumper in the same box and the shipping price is the same.
Same with the KS-Auto kit, you have to pay the $300 if you just get the lip, but if you get the lip, the sides and the rear all at once, the shipping price is still $300, understand?
adrian-1 04-04-2004, 05:52 PM Originally posted by Jt-Imports

Got it. But in my case, I only need the lip.
If there is enough interest in this kit, maybe you can do a groupbuy for interested members and lower the total cost.

such a tough call. it looks OK on the silver, i feel it would look better in the flesh but the price of CF and FiberGlass is nearly half! I'd hate to paint over the CF

We'll be able to tell how it looks on a black 8 pretty soon. Received this email today.
UPS tracking info....Apr 7, 2004 6:26 A.M. TOKYO, JP ORIGIN SCAN
It'll probably get here in a week. Also, I'm not painting it no matter what it looks like. CF on black is probably the safest bet that it'll look good.
Also, I received my Mazdaspeed rear and sides. Installed the rear piece today and I will install the sides this weekend.
Here's some pictures of the rear install.

Rev It Up 04-07-2004, 08:08 AM Adrian, any reason you decided not to go with the carbon side skirts instead of the MS ones. I kind of think it would look rather sharp to have the carbon lip and side skirts on the black car. Thinking about it for mine.

I liked the shape of the MS sides more. The ks-auto sides bulge out alittle while the MS sides are straight down. Also, I didn't want to put too much CF on my car, the lip is enough for me.
TxRx8 04-07-2004, 08:29 AM Yo Adrian, dude I've been tryin to get the photoshop of the black Rx8, but it's very hard to make a white car black! BTW, your rear MS bumper and sides are the shiz. Be sure to keep us posted on the lip!!!

Shocka 04-07-2004, 03:36 PM well i spoke with the guy that adrian mentioned and got a quote of $2,380 for this kit shipped to NY... im thinkin now do i want it that bad i am going to vegas in couple of months so i wanna save for that
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 11:15 AM KS-auto 'Burnout' carbon fiber lip has arrived!!
Shipping was super fast. 3 days from Japan.
Note about the pictures. ****It is not installed yet, just test fitting it.**** Instructions say to drill on both sides to get it on.
Here's the pictures. I'll probably put it on tommorrow or by the weekend at the latest.
My first impressions of the CF lip are good. The CF weave looks good, although there are some imperfections in the pattern where it starts to bend but only on the bottom of the lip. It is very sturdy and will definitely need to be careful about not hitting parking curbs. It matches with the black pretty good. You won't be able to tell it's carbon fiber if your looking at it from a distance or if it's dark.
Pictures of the install will be posted soon.

Cost was $695 shipped. (lot cheaper on shipping if groupbuy is done.)
I was able to contact the ks-auto international sales rep. His name is Tak Matsunaga and email: takmail2@yahoo.co.jp Contact him for info/prices.
TxRx8 04-08-2004, 11:59 AM WOAH, looks like I dont have to do a black photoshop, we got the real thing in this thead! Think you can post the install pics and some more angle shots? That lip is friggin' kick-ass. BTW, where's the side skirts?
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 01:46 PM I'll take a few install pics. I have the Mazdaspeed sideskirts sitting in my livingroom. I'll install those soon.
mikeb 04-08-2004, 04:56 PM great pictures
that lip is way better looking that I imagined.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:16 PM The install was pretty easy. You DO NOT have to remove the front bumper to get it on. (I did take off my bumper anyways to install the Racing Beat oil coolers.)
1. Cut and place the rubber stip along the edges that will touch the front bumper.
2. Install the 2 brackets in the stock holes.
3. Do a test fit and make sure everything is lined up. Mark where the 4 holes on the sides are. Remove lip and drill the holes.
4. Put double sided tape on the inside of the middle part. Remove a small piece of the double sided tape and tape it to the front.
5. Place bumper back on. Install lower bracket screws. Install 4 side screws (2 on each side)
6. Remove backing to double sided tape and push down for it to stick.
Done.
New front clearance is 5 1/2" inches.
MS sides are next on the install list.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:16 PM Step 1
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:17 PM Step 2.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:19 PM Step 3.
Make sure your marking into the front bumper and not the mudguard. This took some adjusting.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:20 PM Step 4.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:21 PM Step 4.
This is to be able to remove the backing after it's on.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:22 PM Step 5.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:23 PM Step 6.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:26 PM Done
Notice the rubber strip is between the lip and bumper, so it doesn't scratch up the bumper if it moves alitte.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:27 PM Lip 1
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:27 PM Lip 2.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:28 PM Lip 3.
adrian-1 04-08-2004, 06:38 PM oops. forgot the 2nd picture to step 5. The brackets underneath.
You can see here that it's about 1 inch lower than stock.
Psychofox 04-08-2004, 07:34 PM very nice job, it looks awsome~!!

success07 04-09-2004, 09:06 AM Adrian - You mentioned the RB springs but the car doesn't look any lower to me. You've installed them right? How much lower is the car now and how is the handling? Thanks in advance.

I installed the Racing Beat oil cooler screens (protects them from rocks). Pictures in this thread. (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24382&perpage=15&pagenumber=2)
Don't have any plans on lowering it. But the racing beat springs do look nice. Only a 1/2 inch drop with alittle stiffer spring rates.
Shocka 04-09-2004, 05:52 PM adrian it looks awesome!!! now im thinkin the $2,380 that i was quoted is worth it.just if i cud get 3 months interest free somehome! and i didnt plan a trip to vegas in june.
adrian-1 04-09-2004, 09:40 PM Finished installing the sides today. It took me about 4 1/2 hours to do both sides by myself. It lines up almost perfectly with the front lip.

adrian-1 04-10-2004, 06:41 PM Not planning on replacing the wheels.
Getting a spoiler in a few months. I need to decide between the Mazdaspeed or the Mazdaspeed Carbon fiber from rotaryextreme.com or any other nice one that comes out.
emailists 04-12-2004, 09:58 PM could someone photoshop this on a titanum?
maybe someone could even take a pic of a titanium at the same angle to see what it would look like.
TxRx8 04-13-2004, 10:42 AM Hope you don't mind Adrian! :) Here's the gray...
adrian-1 04-13-2004, 12:17 PM No. I don't mind, you started the post anyways. :)
I'm also curious what it would look like on other colors.

I think the INGS wing would work better with your car IMO

swifty949 04-16-2004, 07:43 PM do you ahve an 03 or 04 rx8? I've heard that there are 2 differnt factory front bumpers from Mazda, and that lips are affected in terms of fitment.

Don't know where you heard that. All RX8's sold since July '03 have been known as 2004's.
They might have been talking about the Mazdaspeed front bumper. The one sold in America is different from the Japanese version (oil cooler screen on one side, no plastic on the middle grille to cover up the rebar.)
Or maybe they thought the front air dam of the appearance package is part of the bumper?

Hmm... an interesting other possibility. Looks sharp!
As for a spoiler, I'd go with them in this order...
1. UK Lip spoiler
2. R-Magic lip spoiler
3. Ings+1 rear spoiler
I agree with mikeb's thoughts... the MS one doesn't really go with the lines you've setup on your car...
adrian-1 04-17-2004, 02:58 AM 1. uk lip- too small plus very expensive
2. r-magic - looks just like the uk lip
3. ings lip - looks heavy and not a spoiler
I'm leaning towards the MS spoiler. It looks the best in my opinion.
Looking for a Spoiler not a lip.
Japan8 04-17-2004, 04:48 AM 1. Too small may be a factor if you want something showy, but price... it may not be. Check this out... http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25929
2. It's close, but not the same... if it really was, you wouldn't have the clamoring for the UK spoiler. This is more "ducktail" like the overal rear of the Viper GTS, than "lip" like the UK spoiler.
3. I doubt it's THAT heavy. It's made from fiberglass. From the early reports you'd "gain" more weight with the RB muffler over Borla, etc. Overal... it's doesn't look "factory" or "stock" enough for me, so I wouldn't do it, but it's an interesting shape.
For me (and most people I'd ASSUME) if it goes on the rear deck... ugly like the RE Amemiya -type stuff or subtle like the UK Lip... they are all spoilers. In theory they ALL are meant to increase downforce on the rear. The UK one actually improves your cd...
But hey... different strokes for different folks. I think the opinion about MS not looking good is just that it is more "aggressive" (?) than the package you've assembled... so something more subtle may look better. But in the end... what do you care about what we think... it's your ride and as long as you're happy with the results, that's all that matters.
lil benny 237 04-19-2004, 03:19 PM Question why would you want to paint it when its CF? comming CF is pure amazing..
please clarify.. this is only an addition to the body not a replacement body kit? and does it only work with stock body?
CAn you please photoshop one with the blue car with the carbon fiber kit?
IMO sickest looking...Blue car, black decals (a line or two nothing hardcore) carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber spoiler... ::drool:: ahh

sup3rbad 04-19-2004, 08:20 PM great looking combo with the MS skirts and bumper.
odave 04-26-2004, 07:00 AM Thanks for your review of this BodyKit, Adrian :D
Tak and I are starting to represent a lot of other shops as well if you ever need other tuner parts from japan we can probably get it.
We have submitted Burnout parts listings to http://www.winding8.com/parts/ if more people need information on their wonderful parts. This site helps small japanese shops list parts and give free listings.
Best of luck in your future tuning projects!
adrian-1 04-26-2004, 07:57 AM Thanks odave,
Love my front lip. I would recommend this kit to anyone.
Also, for members wondering how this lip compares with the Mazda appearance package front air dam; I've taken some side by side pictures. I'll post them tonight after work.
Japan8 04-26-2004, 09:15 AM That really is a badass looking package!
Another front lip I discovered... like this one is very appearance package like, but a little more aggressive AND you can get it in carbon fiber. Check it out in this thread: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26679
adrian-1 04-26-2004, 07:57 PM That one is nice. Different bottom in that it bulges out.
Here's the pictures comparing the burnout lip to the Mazda accessory package front air dam.
