9krpmrx8 02-01-2011, 05:42 PM Yes they include tops and are rebuild-able
Sweet, I have been doing some research and they do not appear to be rebrands. It appears the parent company supplies OEM suspension components. It would be nice to see some dyno graphs but for the price they seem amazing. Are these ready to ship?
HiFlite999 02-01-2011, 06:32 PM Very interested, shipped to 48823. Custom spring rates possible? In the end, I'm still want a GT street car suspension that can be easily adjusted for occasional track use. Springs see to be available only at ~200 lb/in front rate or 400-500 lb/in with nothing in between. Is something kinda in between possible? Waiting's no biggie - snow's not going away anytime soon.

Thanks for the price quote, but you didn't answer any of my questions either here or in the PM. While DGR lists info for Mazda3 and Miatas, they list no kit for the RX-8, hence some very basic facts are missing. What are the spring rates? What are the optional rates? Are rebound/compression seperately adjustable? No shock dyno data are given so show the possible range of adjustments. The Miata feedback states they have a street/Auto-X setup and a full-track setup. Is there a similar thing to be offered for the 8? You say on the OP that techical questions will be referred to DGR; please do so if necessary and get back to me/us.
These coilovers at that price may well be a bargain, but everyone will claim that their own product is the greatest thing in the known universe. I for one, need more solid information to make any sort of reasonable decision about them.

DGR Suspension 02-04-2011, 10:39 AM Hey guys, figured I would come on here in support of Dan and help answer some questions and show some presence on the forum.
Price shipped to 78230. Do these come with shock tops or do you have to use OEM components?
For the rears, due to the design; you have to use the OEM top assembly.
Thanks for the quote. Question. Do these include shock tops and are they rebuild-able?
Part 1 answered above, as far as rebuildable; as long as you are within the warranty period (LIFETIME) we will simply swap out your defective shock. If you want a revalve I can handle that as well. I would have your new shocks built to your specs and then you could just purchase them through Dan.

Yes, custom rates are available. Let Dan know what you need and I will have a kit custom built with custom rates and valving.

Thanks! So do you think it a reasonable thought to try for something a bit more aggressive than than a shock/spring setup like Racing Beat/Spec-D with 3.3k/2.4k rates but less than the typical coilover rates of 8-10k/5-8k? That seems like a huge gap, but perhaps I'm missing something important about how coilovers operate. Also, is it a single adjustment operating on both rebound and compression together, or are there seperate adjustments? Will the rear adjusters work with extension cables so allow shock adjustments without removing them from the car?

For DD and light track use (auto-x) the 8/5 is not very aggressive. Thats what I run on my slammed Miata and its actually quite comfortable due to the suspension travel I have available. The worst is having a spring too soft and hitting bumpstops. As far as rear adjustment, the adjustment set screw is about 4" deep, so you will have to rig up something to make it work. Its also a single adjustment point.

Possibly with a slam, but I don't intend on lowering more than about 20mm, so that takes less rate as I understand it. What I don't have a good grasp of is the geometric effects involved. Suppose one compares the 3.3k Racing Beat spring at its 20mm drop, with your 8k coilover with the ride height set to the same drop. Is the stiffness of the suspension as a whole increased by 8/3.3, a factor of 2.4? Or are there other differences between the two that reduced that increase?
Is the set screw an Allen head? If so it should be possible to craft a cable extender. For me, it would be quite important to get between highway cruise and sport modes seamlessly.
I wish we were given more time to decide on the group buy - having had the chance to get questions answered for only a few hours makes it hard to be rational. How about a few more days Dan?

Page #1 by Dan says Dual adjustability. Sounds like Single to me. Should be fixed or clerified.
At the moment the only Dual adjustabile struts (seperate rebound and compression) I know of for the rx8 are the KW V3.

DGR Suspension 05-18-2011, 02:30 PM As the RX8 suspension is of the same design as the 2006-UP NC Miata; let me offer you a few of the reviews from some of the owners:
QUICK UPDATE on the daily driveability of DGR street coilovers.
I now have several weeks of daily driving in our local, crappy roads. Shocks are set at 10 clicks from full soft front and 5 clicks from full soft rear (this is exactly the setup I used successfully at the last autoX on OEM wheels and tires).
Overall ride is pretty good and I think reasonable for most sports car owners. Big hits/potholes are still fairly stiff but lets face it, going from ~158lb OEM front springs to ~450lb front springs is going to be felt even with the greatest valving in the world.
The valving appears to have better range of usability than the TEIN Flex which is the only other reasonably low cost single adjustable coilover I have owned. On the Tein Flex, when set really soft, the car would bounce around a lot and was clearly not damped enough to control the springs. Conversely, when set very stiff, the car lost all traction and appeared overdamped. So the usable setting on the Flex were restricted to a narrow band in the middle to middle soft settings.
The DGR coilovers work well at all settings. Set on very soft settings there is only the slightest amount of "bounciness", the valving controls the springs pretty well even when set very low. Conversely, set very stiff there is still some compliance although overall grip does decline with the OEM wheel/tire setup. I think that a more grippy wheel/tire setup (235 or 245 summer tires on 8 or 9" wheels or using r-comps) would require running stiffer settings (>15 clicks or so) on the DGR coilovers, it is nice to know that I have that level of damping available for when I upgrade my wheel/tire package.
The valving and spring rates allow a pretty supply ride over undulations in the road, the tires remain in contact with the road surface and the car feels well composed overall.
The DGR coilovers remain the most quiet coilovers I have ever owned (no "shooose" or other valving noises, no "creeks", "clanks", "clicks" etc, they are as quiet as the OEM shocks.
Speaking of "final setups"... :D
Quick measurements after the install... just like TubeDriver mentioned full droop my fronts measure 3" of exposed shaft and about 1.75" of exposed shaft with the car on the ground under it's own weight. Didn't measure the back cause damn it I wanted to drive it! Enough with the measuring!
A few quick notes from the install... obtain some suicide sticks (spring compressors) from some one or some where and reuse the top hats no need to buy new ones. I got my sticks at Sears for 50$... i think. Easy as pie never felt like they were going to kill me during the removal of the top hats.
Also don't forget to put the dampening adjusters into the rear shocks before installing them! :bang:
Went on a quick drive... day and night from OEM suspension! This is the only handling related upgrade that I've done on this car. Sways are still stock. It feels like a totally different car now. Corners like mad now barely any body roll... not even close to how it felt before. Also mine are currently set at 13 clicks all around and the ride quality is great not too harsh and not bouncy. Feels better than stock!
Sorry pictures are kinda poopy... low light bad camera...
