View Full Version : No! I Don"t Want To Race!!!
VikingDJ 02-16-2004, 01:52 AM This is an old topic, but I have to share. 10 days of owning this car and I have been challenged three times on highway already. One was an s2000, the other a 3000gt vr4, and I have no idea what the other car appeard to be a Maxima or a Altima (it was dark). I find it funny, but at same time rather annoying. I know this car cannot really compete against these torquey monsters on highway, since I have seen the comparisons. I just have a feeling the outside world thinks this car is much faster then it really is, cause it just looks that way. I'll just have to try and ignore it, unless I see a car I know I can beat. :)
93rdcurrent 02-16-2004, 02:41 AM You could beat the 3000 gt VR4. That car is more of a pig than Mitsubishi ever wanted anyone to know. I test drove a few when I was thinking about buying it and I ended up buying the '91 Toyota MR2 since it not only handled better but it had more get up and go. The 3000 just didn't want to do anything.

Not a Chance. I know a guy with a 1996 vr4, and he'll destroy my rx8. Lets be realistic here, onthe highway at a 70mph roll, the vr4 will run rings around an 8, everyone knows that.
Yeah, the 300GT VR4 runs in the high 13s stock, and are easy to make much faster. They are heavy and don't handle all that well, but they can be damn fast from a highway roll or dragrace. I have a video of a modded VR4 running a guy in a a newer 911 Yurbo, he beat him several times and took a few hundred dollars off the guy in the process. They are not a car to underestimated.
As for people wanting to race you, most of them have probably never run an RX-8 before and what to see how the race would go. I would imagine as time goes on it will get better. Though it could get worse once word of the RX-8 being a little down on power compared to other sportscars gets to be more common knowledge.

are you kidding? you must have driven the base or SL and even then it would be tough call...the VR4 would surely destroy the RX-8 even weighing in at close to 2 tons...and they don't handle anywhere near as bad as you claim them to be...although heavy they did have 4 wheel drive AND 4 wheel steering coupled with the aero kit (just like the Chrysler Crossfire), twin turbos, 320hp and 315lbs of torque...come on, let's get serious here for a minute!

either that or it's because they know they can beat you and just want to prove it! ;)
yeh...be glad you chose to ignore it...you would have been eating outta the wastegate....a VR4 would smoke the crap outta us...even more so if modded...those cars are so easy to make some unbelieveable horses out of...but on the other side it is a turbo charged cement truck...it's a four seat monster...but like always you coulda taken him in the curves...
mdw33333 02-16-2004, 10:09 AM My shop did a Borla exhaust on a VR4 for a guy one day. I drove it afterwords and didn't think much of it. He had a boost control and some other mods, but I still don't think it was as fast as everyone here thinks. A stock VR4 would beat a stock 8, but not by that much. Just my opinion.

Wrong metaphor! In a straight line, sure the VR4 is strong - introduce corners to the mix (ie "running rings", circles), and it would not stand a chance against an RX-8. :D

Gordon

Did you just call the s2000 and altima torquey monsters that the RX8 cannot compete against? 3000gt, ok, but an altima? wtf. and s2000 has low torque like the RX

The Altima 3.5 and the 2000MY+ Maximas are nasty at highway speeds, especially if you come across one with a MT. True on the S2K, but I think it's safe to assume he doesn't think it's a torquey monster.

Definitely the wrong metaphor on the 3000gt, but that was an example of how much of a joke it would be on a highway race. I was half right and half wrong. The s2000 is certainly not torquey, but the Altima is. It packs 240HP and 246lbs of torque. I just got this car, but from what I have read, this car cannot beat an s2000, so when I saw it I assumed there's no chance on a highway race against one of those things. The Altima, it doesn't take a genius to realize that 246lbs of torque is just too much to handle, and that car will pull away. I own a 88 Mitsubishi Starion with 200hp and 234lbs of torque, and that thing will take my rx8 on the highway I can assure you of that. But I am happy with my car for it's looks, features and handlling, so it really doesn't bother me. I just will have to keep ignoring these guys wanting to race, and get caught up in my own little world while I am driving. :)

He must have a boost leak or the turbo is going. I drove one couple years back, it is pretty brutal. Faster than my WRX for sure. Friend of mine did a 13.9 quarter with stock everything.
yup..that sounds about right Hanzo...mid-high 13's for stock....i have seen them dust Mach 1's and Cobra's at the tracks here in Atlanta..we're talking 12's and below

I had no idea about Altimas. I always thought of it as Nissan's version of a Corolla and the Maxima as a Camry.
VikingDJ 02-16-2004, 06:11 PM I now realize that you have to watch how you say things on here, because even though people understand what you are saying, they feel the need to correct your grammar, or act like what you said is wrong, or they know more then you. NO more Lounge posting for me. HEHE

The 240/246 is actually a bit lower than what it really puts out. The Altima is every bit as powerful as the Maxima with 255hp, they just didn't want to rate it the same as the Maxima since that's their flagship. It's kind of like the Forester XT with Subaru, that thing is making closer to 250 at the crank than it is 215, but Subaru didn't want to upset WRX owners by rating the car higher I guess. Doesn't bother me, I think it's pretty damn cool that a small SUV is faster than a stock WRX.
Dookie_Rx-8 02-17-2004, 12:42 AM i know all rx-8 owners wish their car was fast like those other cars when it comes to times like this....
we need the rx-7 for backup.haha
Overport 02-17-2004, 10:51 PM your a moron. cant you read? an Rx8 blows the s2000 out of the water. and youd at least be able to give a 3000gt owner a run for his money. Oh wait.....you must have the 197 hp automatic version? Oh im sorry.....i didn't mean to embarass you like that
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA :p

You are definitley smoking crack, and are the one who should be emrarassed. That might be the biggest load of BS I have heard on this website. :)

MRX_Rotary 02-18-2004, 10:40 PM I guess a lot of people here are practicing the abstinence of street racing. Eh? :D

so can a manufacturer state LESS than actual hp figures? but they definitely can't state MORE (as we rx8 owners all know by now :( )
