Anyone following the story about people protesting Toyota entering a car in Craftsman Truck Series Florida Dodge Dealers 250? Here's a link to a Nascar forum which makes the flaming here seem little more than a match compared to a 10,000 acre forest fire: http://forums.racingone.com/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threadid=49811&STARTPAGE=1

I've heard stories of Japanese cars being vandalized, spit on, etc in the midwest, Big 3 country, but never thought much about it since I live in CA and have never had any of those problems.

Anyone here on this forum experienced any anti-Japapnese problems with their cars, especially the 8 since it tends to stand out and attracts so much attention?

My car was keyed HARD last weekend at the airport, but I don't think it had to do with it being Japanese.

wow...that was perhaps one of the most entertaining threads i've read in a long long time...i love when they start busting out the facts and statistics and someone else comes along and corrects them with added flames and preservatives...thanks man, great read!

Toyota will win in the NASCAR Truck series, guaranteed. I'm not a NASCAR fan but I know Toyota's history. They don't race just to get a mediocre brand image out there, they race to win. Toyota will have everyone scared if they join the Nextel series. NASCAR fans would be livid, LOL, a great reason to do it!!! Look at the Toyota F1 program, they aren't winning races as of yet, but most, including me, predict they will be the team to beat in a year or two.

Do you guys really get your cars keyed? Maybe you guys should quit being asses. I don't know anyone that would key a stranger's car.

Have been a NASCAR fan for a while -- my dad even longer. We still camp out in the infield at some of the races (esp at Charlotte). I think it's great to have Toyota getting into the truck series.

NASCAR started out, as the name states, racing "stock cars." Pretty much off-the-showroom cars. Granted, moving into the modern era, the cars they now race are purely race cars (the opposite of stock), but they REPRESENT what people are driving on the roads, nowadays. Why shouldn't we have Toyota in NASCAR? Or Honda? They represent more of what Americans are driving nowadays... Or whatever manufacturer wants to put up the dough for sponsorship and technology development? If Americans are driving them, they should get consideration.

My car was keyed by a stranger. Parked in the airport parking garage for a weekend. I came back to a 12 inch gash down the hood and a dent in the side from someone kicking it.

Probably someone from the Bush administration, you blame everything else on them.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed at the bickering originally...

but had to laugh as I thought back about the issue when someone pointed out to me that the V6 option in the Saturn Vue is a Honda 3.5 SOHC V6.

GM using Honda engines in one of their trucks....now that's something for the protestors to mull over.

That's terrible, but sounds like someone was jealous rather than japan bashing. I've seen Benz's keyed, too. Japan bashing isn't an issue in FL, is it?

I remember reading it in this month's motortrend.. it's not the Vue, it's some bigger SUV from saturn that's coming out.... and I don't remember if they said it's "LIKE" the Honda engine or "IS" the honda engine... I'll confirm if I can find my copy again...

Only this... ...the job loss that has occurred under this administration is unparalleled in over 50 years: well over 3 million jobs lost.

And that is a valid argument, sorry for the flame, and sorry about your car. I must have been thinking about Claude (wonder if his car has been keyed?).

I will say that economic indicators are often lagging, and cyclical, and that while the chief executive can change things, it may take an extra term...let's give him the opportunity!

There's a number of links out there, such as:

Saturn's site verifies the V6 option is a 3.5L SOHC V6...(although I didn't see them cough up the term 'VTEC' anywhere :D )

God that thread was funny, sad, and scary all at the same time.

The Saturn point was good. That's why the legislation was passed about 14 yrs ago requiring a sticker on new vehicles stating the % made in America. Did you know that even though they now use the Honda engine the amount of % of the vehicle made in the US has increased.

I remember the ol 20/20 show where they were talking about the Eagle Talon, Mits Eclipse and the Lazer (or whatever it was) coming off the exact same assembly line. They basically just slapped a different manufacturer label on the car. Pop the hood on that Taurus and note all the Kanji you can see. Vehicle profits are not made in the initial production or sale, they are mainly made during the life of the car on maintenance and parts.

Did you catch the shredding Big Carl got at the end of that thread?
