View Full Version : RX-8 Spirit Waning?
SRT-4 Owner 02-13-2004, 07:41 PM Man, it hurts me to think that it hasn't yet been a year since the RX-8 was released (we got a few more month's to go for that) and the spirit of this car is already waning--at least in this forum.
I mean, whenever someone asks a question, the most common answer is "Have You Tried The Search Feature?" C'mon guys, have we really covered everything there is to know about this car?
Please don't let this forum die off like others have (1902 Ford Model T, Original Daimler-Benz). Last time I checked, the RX-8 was still considered the "HOT" car of the moment.
So start the flames, start those lame jokes, and continue to make me a proud RX-8 Owner-to-be (June, 2004 [FULLY LOADED]) If God wills that is.:)

emailists 02-13-2004, 07:51 PM The topic of waning spirit had been covered many times here- check your search.......
LOL...
Seriously though, I just think people in any forum want to cover new ground to keep things vital- I always search or read the faq before posting in almost any forum- simple to get the answer quicker than waiting for a reply.
The spirit is alive here- just look at all the aftermarket posts- Canzoomers ecu unit, fake strakes, painitng the engine cover- etc
BTW I was supposed to pick up my 8 tonight from the dealer- but they didn't have it ready- so tomorrow it is- it's my second 8 from the buyback- just hope I get better MPG than the first one.
mikeb 02-13-2004, 07:53 PM I felt the same way six months ago
but after answering the same questions over and over it gets old

THAT was funny! Good one. Seriously, though, I wouldn't equate a lack of enthusiasm for answering a question for the hundredth time to a waning spirit for the car. Fact is, most (if not all) of that spirit comes out when driving it or thinking about driving it. We just all realize that those of us who own one understand, and those who don't are tired of hearing about it. :)

I think you have a very good point. I do think the community owes more than that to those that come here for answers. BUT, I also say that if you are really really serious about buying this car, you will search before posting 5 questions that have been run in the ground. That is something that I dont understand.
When I first considered the car mid Jan, I spent a couple of days pouring through here to find out what the issues are and how they are resolved. I read all opinions good and bad. In fact I did not post until days after buying the car! I think that is the least that you could do if you want to buy the car. To the credit of the community, the forum has done a great job of covering every single possible issue with the car - to the point that I did not have to post.
But to command a person to search for it without offering more guidance or an opinion comes across as rude sometimes around here. Depends on how you put it.
jessedrifter 11-10-2009, 01:33 AM Hellla bump for a good thread and wise words
kersh4w 11-10-2009, 08:19 AM its a good thing you searched.
Huey52 11-10-2009, 08:21 AM Wow, they (I wasn't a member then) really thought they had answered every possible RX-8 question by February of 2004??? I guess my 2.5k posts since have been pointless. ;)

the spirit died the minute we were policed for having civil conversations over hot issues in politics in religion. One of the only forums around that is so hard down on discussion.

That's what I was thinking. First forum I've ever been to that doesn't allow political discussion :lol2:
kersh4w 11-10-2009, 10:06 AM first forum that doesnt allow porn.
>_>
r3vlimited off topic lounge ftw.
jessedrifter 11-10-2009, 10:08 AM haha i knew it was a good idea to bump
Shinka_MJR 11-10-2009, 10:18 AM political discussions never... ever... remain civil.
"well that's what mods are for!"
have to disagree. mods are not babysitters. political discussions forums require babysitters. it's just that simple. I am honestly glad the RX8 forum doesnt allow such discussions... and i got banned for 3 days because of it when i first joined... and my posts were not extreme in any sense at all. but i still was put in lock down becaus of it. Heck, the local RX8 group here nicknamed me "Banned" because of it. i had less than 100 posts and was locked out for three days. LOL. ah well. But i can tell you, it's something i appreciate (no political discussions... not the banning :p ) I am still fairly active on one of the other car forums i visit and they do allow political discussions... and it is always bad. doesn't start bad but it degrades within 2 pages to bad.... every single time.
so i say Bravo to keeping these forums "clean".
zoom44 11-10-2009, 10:39 AM thank you shinka mjr
CyberPitz 11-10-2009, 10:45 AM It's not a problem with no political talk for me, anyway. As was stated, it never remains civil. Harsh words get thrown about, and then insults. Never fails. That's why I keep my political views to myself, and let everybody else duke it out ;)
Feras 11-10-2009, 10:55 AM the thing is i don't want to go to another forum to have these kinds of discussions when they come up, i like the people here and how they interact. Rarely at least imho did i feel that i was personally attacked or did any personal attacking on anyone. Opinions are like a**holes every one has one and i respected that and felt the need to interject my own. My point being is that the conversations don't need to be babysat. People who get involved in one and get butthurt should not be opening those threads anyway because they already know how they are gonna react. No one all of a sudden finds a certain political viewpoint repugnant. just my opinion, im not asking anything to change just positing a reason for the lack of life here lately.
Jethro Tull 11-10-2009, 11:39 AM Wow, talk about a thread going totally off-topic from the OP...
CyberPitz 11-10-2009, 12:20 PM That's what happens after 5 years :lol2:
