I would never shop at Wal-Mart. I'm no liberal, but a person's labors should be respected. Wal-Mart is absolutely heartless. I'll pay a bit more so the people who put the product on the shelf are treated more humanely.

Here's an enlightening, well-written article on Wal-Mart:

The Wal-Mart You Don't Know: How a Jar of Pickles Explains Wal-Mart (http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/77/walmart.html)

I am not a fan Wal-Mart.

I also do not like the lifeless Star Bucks they are building down the street from me.

I love Wal-Mart. Super Wal-Mart. Open 24 hours. Anything you need, and most things you could possibly want, at the lowest price. I threw a party, and didn't know where to get a keg of beer. I called every liquor store in the area, none sold kegs. Wal-Mart does.

The article was enlightening, though. Maybe they are good for the consumer but bad for the country. Interesting concept.

There's no such thing in the end, because the consumers rely on the jobs Wal-Mart is pushing out of the country.

Wow- if your walmart does that I applaud them. Our local walmarts just hire the most unfriendly, unhelpful local people they can find, and scatters them randomly around their stores to make it appear they actually do something.

And god help you if you get near the meat and seafood department- the stench will gag you. Apparently, they don't mind letting it sit out way past its expiration date.

I haven't even had a small hint of these problems at our local superwalmart. I have always encountered friendly service, low-priced goods, and non-expired meat...

They also have a handfull of mentally handicapped working for them.

I spend almost as much time at wal-mart as I do on this site :)

Married, 3 kids, a dog, and a cat. Wal-mart is a God send. Sorry, Zoom I vote Wal-Mart is a good thing.

I can see the issues involved; bad things can happen when a company gets too big, like Standard Oil, Bell Telephone, Microsoft. Maybe the government will have to intervene.

But I think their business model is impressive. I appreciate any place that is open 24 hours, being a night guy myself. I think their policy of forcing suppliers to be responsible is a good thing, at least as far as timeliness and dependability are concerned. I applaud their hiring minorities and handicapped and elderly when many other businesses will not.

There is good and bad here, but I would say the good outweighs the bad. They have built the most effective business in the world, and they deserve some credit for that.

For those running small businesses in competition with them, adapt or fail. I have lived in a small town where it was hard to find some items, and if it was after 5 PM you were out of luck. I always hated that.

buy american ? wake up! we are living on earth. It will hurt the american economy in the long run, if you buy american products just because they are american. This way you won't be competitive on the world market.

Allways buy the product that offer for you the moste value for your dollars. Does not matter where it comes from. Simple economics. That's how it works.

are you nuts ? the goverment is just as corrupt as any big corporation. Bush is stealing oil for his oil company, so his stocks will go up in value. Don't trust him.

Please explain to me exactly how Bush is stealing oil for his oil company. I am interested to know the actual process he goes through as you have shown your deep breadth of knowledge and grasp on the situation. :)
