View Full Version : Painted Calipers and Decals
PoLaK 02-11-2004, 02:31 PM Hey Guys wanted to see what you thought of these they would be for sale if you like them.
I went ahead and painted my calipers and used a die cut decal as a stencil. Here’s Pics of the Install:
Got everything Rigged up, removed my brake pads to make it easier, i would send you the page from the shop manual on how to do this if these were to sell. Then taped my
Caliper up and began taping off the rotor.

Here’s it all the way taped off.

Used a degreaser and painted them red. With 500 deg. F engine paint.

Stuck my Decal On. But why stop there :p

Painted Black with the same High heat paint.

So what do you all think i might even sell a kit with paints?
RXhusker 02-11-2004, 02:49 PM I like it! Would most likely buy from you (depending on price of course ;) )
Have you created a decal to cover the air bag warning labels on the sunvisors?
Need For Speed 02-11-2004, 02:53 PM iths cool but its beter if you paints the pads in black
Speed Racer 02-11-2004, 03:04 PM Looks good and if the price is reasonable I'd be interested in buying a kit that includes the paint and decals.
Have you tried doing a Mazda logo (text not the flying M) for a decal? I'm curious to see what that would look like.
RX8FanMan 02-11-2004, 03:21 PM i like it, but where is the caliper with the red and the "rx-8" in black. I like that one
I would be interested assuming the price is good. Also what colors will the kit come with. Not to rush you or anything, but when will you have an answer about selling the kit. I was going to paint my calipers this weekend because I have my car up on stands waiting for my wheels to come in. Thanks in advance..

Texas 8 02-11-2004, 06:34 PM That rocks!! Polak, you're allright in my book. You have more ambition, drive, maturity than adults twice your age. I applaud all your efforts to better this forum and its' members!! I think everyone would agree with me on this one. Well done!! Greg
Omicron 02-11-2004, 06:39 PM Looks good PoLaK, very nice indeed. However, i think the "RX 8" needs to be a bit larger. Just my 2 cents. And yes, I would most likely buy a kit from you. :D
Irish_in_a_RX8 02-11-2004, 06:41 PM not a bad effort Mark!
pghRX8 02-11-2004, 08:11 PM Looks Awesome!! Will the 500 degree barrier be enough?? I was looking into painting the calipers, the G2 caliper paint on tirerack specs out at 950 degree resistance. It really looks great, if it doesn't run i'd be very interested a kit.
Anyone know how heat resistant the paint needs to be??

Zoom2X 02-11-2004, 09:11 PM Looks good. I think the line weight needs to be a little heaver and include the dash. I would love to buy the stencils when you have them ready.
PoLaK 02-11-2004, 09:11 PM Yes 500 is fine according to brembo.
btw the reason the Decal is only being used as a stencil is that even the best vinyls only last up to 180 deg F. Usually buying a decal for you brakes won't last through the summer months.
jerrymac 02-11-2004, 09:52 PM Taping seems like a LOT of extra work to me. I sprayed VHT in a plastic bowl then used a art paint brush, of course sprayed brake cleaner on it first. VHT is rated at 900 degrees. Bought it at Autozone for $7.50 and still have 3/4 left. I had the first caliper painted before I could even find the tape.
PoLaK 02-11-2004, 10:00 PM I was thinking about silver color kinda like how yours looks, but i also like how my isn't as obvious.
Dookie_Rx-8 02-12-2004, 01:35 AM so only the front is painted
mmmdowning 02-12-2004, 05:40 AM Looks great, both of you. I do like just brushing it on. Less time in masking and painting and more time driving this wonderful car.

How does the decal work as a mask, is each letter a separate sticker? BTW, it looks awesome!!!! Do you think it would be possible to get 5 or 6 of those decals with a slightly thicker font, thru paypal pretty soon? Please reply with ure price.
Thanks in advance

PoLaK 02-12-2004, 01:49 PM well if you noticed it got a little late in my "painted black" pictures ill be doing the rest today.
PoLaK 02-12-2004, 01:53 PM Yup looks like ill be putting these through to production how’s a price around $2.50-3.00 a sticker sound ill have to check on manufacturing costs first but that sound reasonable right?
If you take a look at the Installation instructions on my website you'll get an idea for how die cut works. Basically I just use the transfer tape on the caliper rather than the window.

willhave8 02-19-2004, 07:36 PM FYI - There is a Porsche Carrera which is parked in the same lot where I work. It is a dark grey very much like my Titanium 8. Besides the cool holes in the break rotors, I also noticed his calipers are painted black with Porsche letters in silver. Looks very cool and I think the way I will go - Just like Polak except silver RX-8 stencil.
I also took note today that this car has no 'fluff' on it. There are no aero packages, front air dams or rear wings. It just looks smooth and fast. (I am not sure though but it may have a rear spoiler that pops up at speed) Ah, if I only had $50,000 more.

PoLaK --- None of the pictures on your site will load. My IE tells me there are errors on the page. Any Ideas??

PoLaK 02-19-2004, 08:43 PM I found that someone running norton personal firewall had the same problem. Are you as well?
I'm new to HTML/webdesign any help would be appreciated.
willhave8 02-19-2004, 09:05 PM Don't know which one but I am behind a firewall. I will try another PC at home.
