I'm doubting you have ever been there because Dubai is a wealthy city state with no poverty. Everybody is a "Clampett". Every citizen of the country receives a stipend from the governments oil kitty. Damn near all of the grunt work is done by expatriots.

You should see the Prince's car collection. I believe he recently received 25 F1 cars so he can establish some quality F1 drivers from dubai, and also mess around on the F1 track he just built. The guy also gets special cars made just for him from many different exotic car makers. We're not talking just special things put on a production car... He calls Ferrari and says I want 3 supercars made for me, and they will build him a unique car from the ground up. He also owns several past F1 championship cars.

Actually in 1995 I went there to visit my friend for a month whose dad was working for Mobil. Growing up in Houston myself I had plenty of friends who "Summered" in the Middle East. There were plenty of "Clampetts" there but there were many more people living in shanty towns, out of work with their hands out to the because I was Yankee. They were to afraid to ask any of their rich fellow country men who happened their way. (Not very often) But most expats either stayed in the housing compounds or went to the parts where the lower classes are not allowed. Most people who go there only see what makes them comfortable. But I got out to the more common areas and made friends w/ a guy named Ahmer and his family. I helped them repair the roof on their 1 bedroom house that 7 people lived in, but there was no garage for a Ferrari Enzo . I on the other hand do not doubt you have been there because I don’t know you. There for I would have no basis for that kind of a statement. Don’t you hate it when people do that? :D

That CF interior and head unit install in the CLK-GTR are gonna detract from the re-sale value :D

I think that he was simply pointing out that that the thread was brought off topic by Mental's post and then Mental asks to not take the post off topic after he did just that. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hmm, that funny because in all my visits and dealings in Dubai I never came across an indigenous peasant. Maybe I am blind. You know what is even more weird? In the past 10 years I dealt with the oil companies in Dubai I never came across any Mobil operations. I dealt with BP, Caltex (Texaco), Miutsui, Parrex, Pennzoil, Shell, Total, Phillips, and AGIP, but no Mobil. I wonder why Mobil would send expats to an area where they had no interests in the oil production? Hmm, maybe I'm very, very blind.

I also did a bit of googling and discovered that the year 2001 GDP per capita for the USA was $36,300 versus $21,100 for Dubai. It appears your 4:1 ratio in favor of Dubai was off by a factor of 6.88:1. Doesn't add much credibility to your argument.

I might not have visited 60+ countries as you but I have been to UAE. Whether the lower classes were indigenous or not - the "peasants” there were not on the high end of the governments gravy train. Yes the government in Abu Dhabi is very generous with there oil profits. As long as you are from the right tribal background or family. As for 10 years dealing with the oil companies, good for you. I guess Mobil was able to get along with out your services. But I really wouldn’t know in what capacity Mobil was there for, because I wasn’t working for them. Just visiting

That Jaguar is super rare, i never seen it live

I think the CLK-GTR is ever rarer - I understand M-B only made 25 road-going examples.

Seems like with all that money he could afford a better camera (or hire a better photographer) to bring out the beauty in those amazing cars. The pics sucked, except the first one that was just ok.
