>>>>New Thread<<<<

It's been a while since we have all gotten together for a weekend cruise and I think October 24 sounds as good as any. Here is ample time for you to mark it on your calendars so I don’t want to her any excuses. All are welcome to join… rookies and veterans, the young and old, the fast and the slow… wait, not the slow…

For the rookies: This is a fun event where we explore some of the local country side and great roads that Texas has to offer. This is a spirited drive where we really find out what ‘Zoom Zoom” means.

looks like a good route, i know all those roads by heart. i live right there in lowry crossing.

DocBeech
09-24-2010, 06:24 PM
i am going to create and exit route to get us to highway 75, but the backroads near the lakes are where I grew up as well so I know they arent well traveled.

DocBeech
09-25-2010, 12:02 AM
All right so if everyone agrees with this or doesn't mind these pics.

We can meet at the Texas Roadhouse in Mckinney then from there take the first route to the park to take a photo, and I have a second route that takes us along ray hubbard via back roads to I 30. It says it should take about 2 hours but that depends on if we want to follow speed limits and laws or if we want to run it out?

Riley Craven
09-25-2010, 09:59 AM
We generally try to post as little route information as possible on the boards. While the probability is low, unregistered users (aka cops) could be monitoring the forums for stuff like that. Mostly paranoid I guess.

Hey guys also if you have them, bring a two way radio. Like the 14 channel Motorola ones. Its much easier for us to talk on a radio than to try to call all 10 cars in the link lol. If we could at least have 3 or 4 of them. I only have one. But someone at the back, and then one in the middle or even 4 spread out evenly to relay information would be great.

I am going to be bringing a sheet with everyones emergency contact information on it just in case. If you want to get a head start I can type your information onto it. Its going to have:

Just posting an update. I have finished a map that includes about 50 turns over 47 miles. Trip time is approximately 2 hours following the laws mainly back roads. Devin if you get a hold of me we can meet up sunday or something and ill shoot you a copy. I have to break in my new hawks pads which requires a bit of driving at fast speeds and some brake slamming according to the box.

if you guys want it longer or shorter let me know. I have it ending on lake ray hubbard at a back woods park I know pretty well.

Just a FYI, be prepared for people getting lost etc. 7+ people is alot, 14+ is a ton... Hopefully we we dont get stuck behind too many red lights like last cruise.

Also make sure you are TOPPED OFF on OIL & GAS before the cruise so we dont have to make a stop to fill up. Pretty much be ready to go before the cruise...

DocBeech
10-05-2010, 08:25 PM
Were bringing radios, if people start to fall behind, I will stop the convoy. From what I understand there will be at least 5 radios which should cover the convoy. I already have two quarts of oil ready for the trip. I talked to the steak house and they have a section they can give us that will seat around 30.

You guys do need to know the section of highway where the steakhouse is at is under construction. Goto the next intersection where the fast food places are. Pull into the parking lot from there and drive the long way around. It will make sense when you see it.

So after the long ardouious task of replacing the struts and getting the rear re aligned I am now back up to confidence in my car, and ready to drive it like I stole it on the 24th. Course now I'm starting to think I need new breaks...

In any case, I've got two decent walkies that I will bring as well as my camera (which will have its 120gig drive fully emptied this time)

Why the change of heart? When I asked about this a month or two ago in this thread (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=199841), you replied:
No upgrade needed.

And then followed up with this gem of a post (http://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php?p=3612731&postcount=12).

Or there was this statement:

The RX8 brake system is one of those deals where you shouldn't fix what isn't broken.
Glad someone else in this thread had this opinion besides myself and one other.

And lastly...
My instructor at ECR raced an RX8 and Miata in Autocross and tracks across the country and he was asking me what I had done to the car. I told him about the HPS pads and he actually said he prefered stock pads because he felt that had more bite, which given the amount of dust they produced I could easily believe.

So which is it Thomas? Are upgraded brakes worth it or not? Because you were all about it being a waste of money and not helping the car at all when I asked, but now you want them?!

Thanks indeed. Those look like some awesome pics. Any chance I could get them in all in a zip file? I can provide an ftp if needed.

On another note I will be posting the footage on the NTX site, but its going to take me awhile because 1. I recorded over 30 gigs worth due to the duration. Not all of it is great either due to the rain which caused issues with the autofocus. 2. Its going to take me awhile to even get the compressed files uploaded at 10x compression. (3.5-4gigs for each of the three files). Currently compressing the first of three. I may even put what footage I have of the august run we did just in case anyone wants it.

not at all, im running michelin sport a/s plus. I can't speak for everyone but I was keeping a lot of distance between me and the guy in front of me so I could take the corners harder and faster without worrying about the guy in front of me braking.

There are over 250 photos, those 30 or so are just the first ones to be cleaned up. Of course over 100 of them were lost due to windshield wiper blades, or water debris covering the wind shield, or a bad focus lol. I'm still working on about another 25 of them.

the second photo is what adobe did when I had it do an auto image adjustment. Hence its one of the only photos without clouds. Look at the road in the second image and you can see cloud shadow on the ground but no clouds. I believe it was trying to cover up all the mist, but you can almost not see the clouds in the lighter picture just a hint of them. Check the photos if you have saved any. I have updated about 5 of them. Some of them like the photo with the dark clouds above I reverse edited. The photo with the clouds was edited on the nikon camera, the one without the clouds adobe decided the mist would be less obtrusive if it changed the sky. On 3 of them I have been able to edit out a vehicle so it looks like there are only 8's on the road. A couple of them I have instead of using the adobe edited photo, I used the nikon software built into the camera to adjust the lighting. A couple of the photos in cleaning them up I had to upload back to the camera because adobe makes them to bright, or makes one portion of them unrealistically bright compared to other areas of the photos. Double check what you have saved to see if your photo was updated or corrected again. I will probably be doing this over and over, and adding photos one at a time as well.

Also some of them won't be the full photograph. I will post an example below of one that had to be cropped out because 90% of the photo was windshield covered in water and debris.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s155/docbeech/October%20Club%20Meet/DSC_01562.jpg

deadpheonix I actually have 3 of that same photo. One of them has two cars in it. The only problem I am having which just so happens to be why the clouds are being deleted. The issue is that when I tell adobe to fix the photo for water spots, and mist to clean it up, it focuses on the car and road. Once it does that it turns the sky to look like they are clear skies. The only photos it leaves the clouds alone is ones where the clouds are pink. The ones like above where they are black or stormy it almost completely erases them. It tried to erase the rainbow on me too. I am currently trying to figure out a way to clean them without having to hand tool them. I will try to get the three rainbow photos up, darken them, and remove the water spots best I can without removing the gray sky.

Riley if you want to send me an ftp link I will get a zip to you. Keep in mind it might be a week or two. There are 30 more photos I want to salvage BUT and huge issue here. They are more damaged by the weather than these. Im waiting to see if I want to spend the time fixing them. Were talking about 20-30 mins of repairs a photo and thats just to salvage some of the photo.

BTW best I could get this one for now the rain took its toll on it:

As long as you don't completely forget to upload what you got when you decide your finished I'm cool with whenever. Lastly, I've got parts 2 and 3 of this cruise uploaded, but they are a different compression standard, so if anyone that dls them has trouble playing them let me know.

I'm still working on other parts of the site however so just those videos are ready currently.

Probably the time difference because of the 5 second slide I added to the beginning of the compressed video. I tend to only view the footage in its orginal format.

In any case, all of the video from this meet, and the last (8-07-10) has been posted.

Note that the end of part 2 is where my camera died so that is only a fraction of the entire meet.
