I have the XM SkyFi installed and i have been having issues with the radio reception when the XM is on. I have the fm modulator set to 88.5Fm and I get the signal fading in and out even though I have a full 3 bars of reception on the XM unit? Anyone else experience this?
I had the same issue with using 87.9FM to receive the sat signal so I made the switch to 88.5 and I still get fuzzy reception.
help!!

Do you have a local FM station on either of those frequencies? Which FM modulator do you have? Is the antenna cable firmly seated in the socket?

I have the car kit for the SkyFi with FM Modulator. Everything seems to be connected snugly. There is not another station broadcasting on either of those frequencies....I thought it would be a direct line into the headunit from the fm modulator. Does it actually 'broadcast' on that frequency and has to be picked up by the receiver?

It doesn't "broadcast" ... the signal is carried over the coaxial cable that connects to the antenna socket. Think of it like one of those boxes you used to have to use to connect a video game to a TV. But a strong signal on the FM frequency you use will interfere with the reception.
My guess is you have a defective FM modulator. Take it back to where you bought it.

Thanks for the info, i didnt think it actually broadcast but I couldnt come up with any other explanation. I'll have to take it back to the shop and see about getting it swapped out for another modulator..
Thanks
