View Full Version : very disturbing french movie . not for everyone read at your own risk!!!
eclps0 02-09-2004, 02:51 PM The disturbing movie that I saw yesterday was a French movie called irreversible. The movie is about a girl being raped which it shows the rape. This guy is looking for the guy that raped his girlfriend named Alex. And unlike traditional movies which start from the beginning of the story this started with the end of the movie and rewinds through out the movie to see how it happened and the events that led to the rape and murder. (It’s very disturbing because u see the rape the murder (a guy’s face bashed in till the skull fell apart. Now I know why they would not release it in America.
If i can go back i would not see this move, It was a great movie that best i have ever seen. The things in this movie, it is hard to think that this can happen and it does go on all around the world!
MazdaManiac 02-09-2004, 02:53 PM If you want to see a really disturbing European movie, try Salo.
That one made me feel really creeped out.
I think Irreversible is where our 8mm came from...there are some subtle references...but maybe i'm out a limb here and thought I heard this somewhere and i really didn't...wow...time for a break,,
neit_jnf 02-09-2004, 04:15 PM Try "Memento" and "Abre los Ojos", the Spanish movie with Penelope Cruz that was copied in "Vanilla Sky". The original "Abre los Ojos" is actually very good unlike Vanilla.
Shocka 02-09-2004, 04:48 PM Memento was awesome.. the most disturbing movie i ever say was Battle Royal .. its a Japanese movie about kids who are left on an island to survive. Basially they kill / eat eachother .. i dont remember the exact details i saw it a while back
Squidward 02-09-2004, 06:24 PM Tale of Two Sisters was a GREAT horror flick.. very creepy and well paced.. very atmospheric.
As good or better than Ringu and the Eye.
Battle Royal wasn't as disturbing as it was fun to watch. Very neat plot. It was a famous director's social commentary about the youth in today's Japan.
Very Disturbing movie is Audition. pretty sick scenes involving rape and dismemberment.
93rdcurrent 02-09-2004, 06:47 PM Eraserhead was very disturbing. No real plot to follow (well it kinda did) very disturbing none the less. Not very gorey either come to think of it. Thank you David Lynch in the college years.

Astor 02-10-2004, 08:43 PM Check out Greg Akari's The Doom Generation, it has Rose McGowan & James Duvall. The imagery of this film is both dark & disturbing.

Agreed. It is very, very tough to watch. I was astounded that Ms. Bellucci, a drop dead gorgeous actress ( Matrix Reloaded, Malena etc. ) who obviously did not need the work, took such a gutsy career risk to do this picture. And she clearly demonstrates that she does have serious acting chops. [The rapist reminded me a bit of a 'Taxi Driver' era Harvey Keitel]. Not for the faint-hearted..
Saint_Spinner 08-29-2004, 02:48 PM I think the most disturbing news of all, is the actor performing the rape is her real life husband or something...something like that atleast.
holy thread resurrection batman!

You are so right. I checked out 'Marcus' on the IMDb Irreversible cast list and he is her husband, Vincent Cassel. :(
My Harvey Keitel 'impression' doesn't match his picture, at all.
smrx8 08-30-2004, 11:29 AM were can you rent one of theses flicks ?

Yes, that was beyond gross and so was Gluttony. David Fincher went overboard. On the plus side, I thought Freeman and Pitt worked really well together. Apparently Pitt had another commitment but he did it because of Fincher and Freeman. Shooting schedule was very tight, with limited time for retakes. So because Fincher predicted that a lot of the exterior shots would be during rain, he had rain machines set up and running for nearly every exterior city shot. Lots more trivia on the IMDb site. http://www.imdb.com/
Irreversible was actually shown uncut on the Movie Network in Ontario..maybe all of Canada. Don't know for sure. Dubbed in English.. also shown with English subtitles.. the DVD DTS/Dolby sound mix is in French/ English/Spanish/Italian. It can be rented at any Rogers Video Store in Canada. Don't know about Blockbuster in Canada or the USA. I avoid them as like Wal-mart, they insist upon 'cuts'.. at least here they do. I highly doubt Irreversible made it onto their shelves. :(
erog216 08-30-2004, 03:26 PM Any movie by Takeshi Miike is ridiculously messed up...
Takeshi Miike did
Fudoh
Audition
Dead or Alive Trilogy
Ichi the Killer
and about 7 films a year since 1998... so he has a ton out there...
His movies all have a very stylistic presence he only has... its amazing...
If you like Battle Royal you shoudl check him out, he's social commentary is more dark
