View Full Version : Well I WAS going to get an RX8....and I did:)

Just bought it yesterday.

Turns out, the Titanium Gray with the Touring package model was on another lot, and ended up getting sold in the time I was in the dealership signing papers!

However, another truck had just arrived with a BRAND new one with 0 miles on it. It still has to go through PDI (post-delivery inspection) apparently, and the lazy bastards on the other lot left work yesterday at like noon.

Soo, I have to wait until tomorrow to pick up my new ride.

Dealer is ordering the Spoiler, floor mats, cargo net, etc and that stuff should be put on/in this next weekend.

I'm so excited, but moritified at what I've done. Sooo much money (I'm 25, this is my first new car).

Soo, on a totally unrelated note, does anyone want to buy a 96 MX-6 M-edition with 92k miles? Great condition....;)

That's exactly how I felt yesterday when I was giving the dealer my deposit. I'm 24 and this is the first car I have bought on my own. My dealer didn't have the car I wanted on the lot, so they are getting from another dealer. I'm expecting it to be ready by the middle of the week. Congrats.

Shebam, isn't that the truth! I always said I would have a sports car of some type before 40, it came and went. Now with 50 fast approaching, just had to do it or it might be 60. And I don't regret it for a minute either :)

You youngs guys have fun and be safe.

guys i know exaclty how u feel.. i bought the car just after my 22nd bday. Just started working about 2 months before it. With so many of my friend being laid off i was like shit this could be a horrible idea... but now ive learned the most important thing about buying a car is havin 3 months worth of payments sitting in a safe somewhere for a rainy day..

oh yah not having other major expenses like rent is good too.. not like my college loan helps though!

i had a choice move out or new car.. i can deal with the parents.. and my job is 5 mins from my house so moving is just stupid

as for the 8 have fun its a great car to have at this age..

I'm sorta twice your age - back in '79, I did the "practical" thing and bought an Accord instead of an RX-7. Really dumb move.

There may be few things you'll do now that you might regret later, but I don't think buying your 8 will be one of them.

Cheers

Got you beat; I hit the double nickle in January. With kids out of the house, my wife finally couldn't object to a sports car. But then the one I wanted had 4 doors anyway!

Shebam - I've had three sports car phases of lfe so far - (1) under 25 - had a 1969 Camaro (2) under 35 - RX-7 and now since over 45 - four sports cars including the ones below plus a 2001 SLK320. Life is better - at least in my own mind - as long as I have it. John

I guess I never really comprimised. My first car, at 18 was an '87 Fiero which we slightly modified for hp. Still didn't corner too good. Then a few years later I bought the '91 MR2 turbo which we heavily modified to get nearly 575 hp at the flywheel. Next I bought a '95 M3 installed Dinan chip. And now I have the RX-8 :D . oh yeah, I will be 32 in May :p :p :p .

I wish I could've been in a position to buy such a great car at such a young age . . . but then they didn't make one when I was in my early 20's! I just turned 36 and the 8 is just my 3rd new car too - after an 87 Escort GT and 94 Probe GT. My last rwd car was a Ford Pinto before the Escort.

It seems like I only buy a new car every ten years or so, but I told myself that my next car would be rwd or awd, fast, and a sports car with no compromises. As it turns out, the 8 is a very practical car on top of fitting that bill. Even sweeter! :D

23 here... this is my first new car also... its soo nice... with that new car smell

my previous cars were an 87 rx7 turbo which made me fall in love with rotaries and a 92 3000GT vr4.

The Rx8 is my favorite by a slim margin... but that will get bigger the longer i have it!

This is my mid life crisis car...so I say. I'm 47, have only had 3 new cars that I can call my own in my life and those have all been since 2000. First was a 2000 Neon, a compromise since it was a gift from my parents. (I was broke, from a divorce and bankruptcy and the family mini van I got with my kids from the divorce was ailing fast). Next I bought an '02 Dakota for practicality, my new wife had the "impractical" car, an '01 Eclipse. She got rid of it for an '03 CRV and it was time for my "impractical" ride, the RX-8. I figured I would enjoy this more at 47 than at 57 so now was the time. I was thinking about a used RX-7 before the RX-8 but decided for the 8 cause it looked nicer to me. (last damn time I play Need for Speed Underground and decide that it would be nice to have such a ride! :) )The 4 doors with a back seat looked nicer for insurance reasons, too. :)

You young guys enjoy it for as long as you can. You're only as old as you want to be and I am like Peter Pan, I don't want to grow old!

Llathos,

A Titanium Gray with Touring Package?

You have great taste!:D

Just to continue with the old guy theme here, I bought my 1980 RX-7 new when I got out of college.

Been driving an rotary ever since.

It looks like the demographics for the 8 are clustering at age 26 and at age 51. I fall into the latter group and hope to have one in the fall. If all goes well I'll be zoomin' with the aarp group.:)

My first new car was my '01 Jeep - got it when I was 29.

My 30th birtdhay came with some mid-life crisis issues and I ended up with the red car in my signature.

Then the rx8 was an unexpected 31st birthday present to myself - didn't really intend to get one, I was just going to have a look and I just couldn't resist.

There are some advantages to being 31 and single, but there are also some disadvantages too...

Next thing on the list is a house, and with any luck I should have that one put to bed by the end of the week.

Debt, here I come!

HEY Llathos -

Congrats Man !!!!!!! I'm so happy that you did it. :)

I figured that you were nervous about pulling the trigger on the car, but I can tell you that it's nerve wracking buying any car when you're that age no matter what the car is. I bought my first new car when I was 24. It was a Nissan Maxima, and my hand shook so much that I could hardly write the check. However, driving the 8 I am sure will make it all worth while for you :) . I'm glad that you did it, and remember . . . don't flood it (just kidding). Enjoy that car!

Have a good one -

Yup, im 24 too and getting an 8, hmm whats up with that guys?? I guess the 8 must be a 24 year old male magnet or something.. well no complaints here.

Other options would be, 350Z (but roomate already has one), or bmw m coupe(hatchback)...

yeah, we'll see.. maybe you all can sell me on the 8

Put me in the middle of the pack @ 34. This will be my 6th new car (all have been of the sport variety) but this will be my first rotary.

My soon to be Ex-wife always hated the fact that I had "impractical" cars, so she will probably sh*t when she finds out I got an RX-8. My new girlfriend loves it!

It will be since you are way more aware of the potential issues than other owners. Just be sure that you avoid snow on the stock tires. I do understand your nerves though, and remember that you have a warranty :) . Have fun with the car, and break it in right. The engine was very tight on mine when I bought it.

WHAT, drving the car to work???? I thought you were going to keep it safely tucked away at home, away from the parking garage???

Hard to resist driving it, isn't it? My employess don't know about mine yet so on nice afternoons I take an extended lunch break, and go home, get it and just drive until its time to go home. Being the boss has its perks :)

AARGH! Deep breath. OK, I think I'm ready now.

Yes, the summer performance tires suck in the snow. However, with winter tires, this car handles extremely well in the snow, ice, cold, etc.

Good choice on a a first car! My family is on its second SHO, the first of which (a silver/black 89) bit it on the DC Beltway. The current SHO is an auto 95, not quite as fun as the stick was, but it hasn't eaten any transmissions either (the 89 went through 2 before its accident).

But definitely, trade in the Audi and get an 8!! (keep the miata :))

I looked at an SHO stick but its having the parking brake pedal still on the floor down next to the clutch convinced me that they weren't serious about the stick. BTW my issue of RX8 Tuner finally came today. Great article by Maurice, aka CanZoomer.

..and after you've learned how to master a manual transmission, you should go pick up an older rwd car with manual tranny and practice some tricks! like burnouts, spinouts, donuts, drifting, chirping, powersliding, etc.etc.etc... all the things I miss doing now that I have the 8...

Is this to say that you can't do these things in the 8 ????

Hmm.. I know it doesn't have much torque but with a little reving and some nice clutch action, these things shouldn't be any prob.

b.s. oops. p.s. if you want some real rotary action try driving a twinT 7 thats been upgraded a little. :)

Sorry let me clarify. What I meant was "it's cheaper to do such things with an older car that you wouldn't care for as much as a brand new RX-8"... I have no doubt in my mind that the RX-8 is more than capable of such abuse.
