View Full Version : Front license plate????? Baller 02-06-2004, 11:59 PM I don't run with it on..... Sin 02-07-2004, 12:12 AM Never will, the law will always pull you over for somehting else down here 1st. I get stopped a lot, never had it mentioned RX-GR8 02-07-2004, 12:14 AM the minute i try to run without it im sure cherry top will stop me. Jeff_pap31s 02-07-2004, 12:15 AM Don't need it in FL! RX-GR8 02-07-2004, 12:16 AM lucky you! loco4rx8 02-07-2004, 01:17 AM So far, so good. I've had the car for almost 6 months and haven't had a problem. [crosses fingers and knocks wood] Takashi 7 02-07-2004, 01:19 AM I'm lucky too. I live in a North Carolina where we don't have a front tag. brothervoodoo 02-07-2004, 01:29 AM Respect your local laws. D MENAC 7 02-07-2004, 01:36 AM I'm still waiting for my license plate to arrive and have until April before I HAVE to display it. That will be a sad day. Was thinking about mouting it lower over where the front rotary badge goes and since I do not have one anyway, however, I photo shopped it one day and it just didn't look right...sigh! I might try to fun without it but being in the state capitol, we have city, county and state police all over the place not to mention I work at a University and we have the campus Police, too. I may try to push my luck anyway by saying it fell off and I haven't got it back on yet. (keep it in the back seat) Then I might just have to put the damn thing on. alphapenguin 02-07-2004, 02:02 AM It is required in OHIO, but I think one way to get around it is to set the front plate on top of the dash. As long as it is visible, the Popo's wont ticket you. (I think) I will do that as soon as I get my vanity plates come renewal time. Speed-ER doc 02-07-2004, 05:24 AM My buddy with the black G35C was giving me grief last week about that. He has his front plate off, looks great. I don't need the added stress. Too much like driving around with an expired inspection sticker - you know you can be pulled over at any time. 93rdcurrent 02-07-2004, 05:29 AM Oh Hell Naw! I won't put mine on unless I get the fix-it ticket and then it will only be on long enough to photograph and that's it. I won't have a car that looks like a pissed off Bugs Bunny. ArXate 02-07-2004, 06:58 AM Just put the front plate on, you martians. Make sure the dealership knows how to put it on. The one I go to took my package (with two bolts and one self-tapping screw) and chucked it somewhere. Instead, they put in three DIFFERENT self-tapping screws, which you can't do because eventually the license plate would fall off. In fact, when I went home and checked the work, I found one screw was just going around in circles loosely. I called them about it and brought my car back in on the same day. The service writer kept saying he thinks it's done right and I kept saying I think they need to go with the original bolts (the two zinc ones). I said everyone is confused about it and asked them nicely to refer to the PDI manual. A mechanic came out and said he'd look at the manual. In less than five minutes, they brought my car back out, admitted I was right, and apologized profusely. I told them it wasn't a big deal because every dealership is confused. This way I keep relations positive. So just put the front plate on, you goobers. Q121825 02-07-2004, 08:31 AM Screw the law! I run naked! RX8by 02-07-2004, 09:18 AM I live in a small town that loves to write small infaction tickets. I know I would get nailed sooner or later. wquiles 02-07-2004, 09:40 AM Here in Texas it is required by law but about 1 of every 30 cars don't have it (including both of my cars). It depends on the cop, but most of the time you never get a ticket for it here in the Dallas/Plano area, although I hear of a few folks recently who got a ticket for this "offense". Shocka 02-07-2004, 09:52 AM with the amount of cops that run around here in NY running w/o the froint plate is just asking for a ticket. EVERY1 has it on so if u dont chances are they will pull u over... i have a friend with a FL registered car so he doesnt need front plates, but he gets pulled over constantly. He eventually put a front plate on just so he doesnt get pulled over.. Gord96BRG 02-07-2004, 11:43 AM Alberta also doesn't issue front plates anymore (since around 1990 or so). Waaay back when they did, I left it off, and got 2 tickets in 7 years for it. Well worth it for the improvement in appearance! Keep your "intelligent" comments to yourself. Nobody was calling YOU names. D MENAC 7 02-07-2004, 12:03 PM "So just put the front plate on, you dumbasses" Thanks for sharing your opinion. It is true that opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. Looks like you're one of several on here. Nubo 02-07-2004, 12:03 PM This car, like the Miata, looks ludicrous with a front plate. I decided that a ticket was preferable to ruining the lines of the vehicle. I always keep the (realistically scratched) plate handy for the "sorry the bracket broke" excuse but have yet to invoke it. Haven't been cited yet (since 1990). Maybe I'd change my mind if I was being cited repeatedly. The other thing is the front plate requirement is mainly there to satisfy the big-brother photo surveillance, which irks me. Maybe you could just silk-screen the Lic# onto the grille :p Speed-ER doc 02-07-2004, 05:15 PM Originally posted by ArXate Just put the front plate on, you morons. blah, blah, blah....(I liked that, Tamas!) ... So just put the front plate on, you dumbasses. Getting close to another ban, eh shift zoom8? Lithium is cheap, but you have to take it for it to work. :D D MENAC 7 02-07-2004, 05:25 PM Speed-ER doc: "Getting close to another ban, eh shift zoom8? It would look terrible! norats 02-07-2004, 06:43 PM I'm still running around with no plates since July...just my dealer's dmv slip on the front window. I have my plates in the trunk just in case. Monique 02-07-2004, 07:50 PM ... luckily for me its not the law here. i dont want anything on the front of my 8. but for those of u who do u can always dress it up a little with a nice frame. i bought a chrome "zoom zoom" frame for my plate online for $30 + s&h. here's the link in case u'd like 2 check em out. www.autoattire.com/licenseplateframes/mazdaframes.html (in the "choose name" drop down menu mazdaspeed, RX8 and zoom zoom are available) here's a pic of mine  ps mazda wanted $65 (go figure) realdeal 02-08-2004, 12:00 PM Very cool monique.
