View Full Version : RX-8 Car Insurance...how much?
MrXpSyChO 02-05-2004, 09:17 PM Wassup people...I'm a 20 year college student and i will soon become a rx-8 owner. However, i was wondering how much insurance would be on it...I have personally never had a brand new car and insurance is suppose to run a lot for a new car (especially because i am really young). My driving record is fairly clean (1 speeding ticket). Furthermore, I was raised in California but now i attend Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia and I have no idea about insurance companies here...Well, if anyone knows anything, i wanted to see how much all you rx-8 owners pay for insurance and who insures you folks. thanks a lot people!
jtimbck2 02-06-2004, 12:26 PM Insurance is based on too many factors for this to be a useful poll. The most important factors are: (1) Your age; (2) Your gender; (3) Your marital status; (4) Your driving record; (5) The performance specifications of your car; (6) Where you live.
I am almost 60 with no violations in over 15 years and never had an accident. I pay about $1700 a year total for three vehicles--two new including the RX-8--in Chapel Hill, NC.
My son is 23 with multiple collisions and multiple speeding tickets and he pays about $2000 a year in NC for minimum liability coverage on an old car with no collision insurance. He also lives in a different zip code in NC which accounts for about 15% of the difference.
The Rx-8 costs me about $200 a year more than my 2 year old Honda Accord, so the car matters, but not as much as the driving record.
khoney 02-06-2004, 10:54 PM Wow, did you pick the wrong ranges! I pay about $600 per year for max coverage with $500 deductible. Maybe you should add a couple more menu options. $4500 a year????? is that possible?
silvercloud 02-07-2004, 12:24 PM Mine went up $400/year after accident quotes started coming in for the car - so be prepared for some fluctuations - it is a new model after all.
Texas 8 02-09-2004, 11:00 PM I'm 28 and I pay roughly $430/6 months for the 8. I pay almost as much ($395) for my wife's suburban.
DemonRX-8 02-09-2004, 11:54 PM I'm a 36 yr old single male and the 8 runs me about $500/6 month with full coverage and $500 deductible. This is after a collision 16 months ago that totalled three cars (including my Grand Cherokee). If not for that, I'm sure my rate would be a lot lower. As it is, I'm pretty sure my rates will drop over the next year as an old ticket falls off the radar screen.
As was stated before, it all depends on the age group. I could see $2k+ per year for younger drivers in this car - especially teens.

Was your rate for what type of coverage before it went up? Also, some demographic info would be useful for comparison.

Monique 02-29-2004, 05:56 PM 27, female, married, homeowner, still 2300. per year w/250. deductibles, New Orleans, LA, Progressive Insurance Company
guy321 03-01-2004, 03:11 PM Thats kind of high.. I think. When I lived in N.O. my insurance was REALLY high, because of an accident that caused me to be dropped by Allstate, so I had to go to Progressive. However, when I moved to Florida, now my rates are $1500 a year, and I'm a single 30y/o male. I'm still with Progressive, and I do get the home owners discount because of my home in Kenner.

Merkaba954 02-07-2012, 07:00 PM Location is a HUGE factor. I am currently in the market for a Rx8. however i live in Fort Lauderdale Florida and used to live in Atlanta Ga.
when i lived in Atlanta in 2007 i had a 2000 Montero sport ls, my full coverage insurance was 176.00 a month. i moved to So Flo and for the same car insurance for full coverage with the same insurance company same policy and everything went to 365 a month.
when i paid the car off a few months after moving here, my liability only state minimum insurance went to 179 a month.
