View Full Version : A VERY good quote :)
Hercules 01-17-2003, 07:16 PM From Channel4:
When work on the RX-8 started around three years ago, Mazda called in Bose to develop a storming sound system for the car. And boy, what a stereo they have built. The nine-speaker six-CD player sounds rich and clear with no distortion even when cranked right up. The system has been tuned to the exact interior architecture of the different models and takes into account whether the cabin has leather or fabric seats, or if it's fitted with a sunroof or not.
Quick_lude 01-17-2003, 10:03 PM Who's quote is that? A marketing guy or a salesman?
One mans "rich and clear sound" is anothers tinny sound warranting aftermarket replacements. I'll save my opinions for a test drive. :)
I've heard alot of factory tuned stereos. The last one was my wife's Mustang with the Mach 360. They all sound pretty good. But I don't want pretty good. If I can see what's behind me in the rear view when the radio is up, it's not good enough.

Sputnik 01-18-2003, 01:49 PM Yeah, an audio system review from a TV reporter carries about as much weight as that Miata review from the Wall Street Journal.

velociti 02-05-2003, 04:46 PM As soon as I get my 8, I'm replacing the speakers with Dynaudio's. I don't care how good people say the system is, bose is a mass market company that has never made a sound system that one could call audiophile quality. While it certainly might be better than the majority of systems out there, please don't think of Bose as the top of the line speaker manufacturer.
Yeah, um, about that rant. Sorry, I'm sensitive when it comes to hi-fi audio, and among those in the audiophile community, Bose is a joke.
Hercules 02-05-2003, 05:14 PM I'm not going to upgrade as I'm not as MUCH of an audiophile as most people are :)
I think from what I've heard in the Mazda6, I'll be more than hapy with what the 8 has.

Velociti I want to do the same thing but I don't have the money for a setup to do the dynos justice. Please post pics and info. What amp? and where are you going to put the tweeters? (I thought with the right plate you could put them next to the 6.5" drivers on the 240's) Love to see the final product.
As for Bose. Its is premium stock but still stock. While I do respect some of the Bose engineering I think the really lack on material and build quality. Also Bose marketing is so good that they can sell any ordinary idea and people think it is awesome because it says bose. (Perfect example: For home audio they sell an isoberic sub/midrange driver and talk about the great bass it gets. This is not a new idea but it cost 2 drivers and its only advantage is enclosure size, in a floor speaker???) Just my 2 cents.
P.S. I am not judging any components on SPL but rather the clarity and tonality of the system. IMO dynos are the most true and musical speaker over the broadest ranges of the musical spectrum.
