I drive to work and stop at the 7/11 on the way.

Given the devious characters hanging around, and the fact that I only started my '8 like 27 seconds ago, I don't want to shut it down, and it looks really 'obvious' using the key.

How can I get the doors to lock when I leave?

The remote is no help at all, unlike my Acura, the car ignores the lock/unlock commands when the it's running.

Having admired the slick foglight relay bypass wiring, I thought you electrical guys could come up with a hack, to 'lock me out'!

If you want to stop and still leave it running take your extra set of keys and manually lock the drivers door after you manually lock the passenger door from the inside. Good for cold weather although in some areas its against air quality laws to lock the car and leave it running unattended.

You should never leave the car running unattended, locked or not... Just a bad idea all around.

You can politely ask the gentlemen around your car to kindly watch the vehicle as it's running while you run and grab a cup of coffee, I'm sure they would be more than happy to help out :)

Second set of keys is the only way.

Use the rocker switch on the armrest to lock the doors as you climb out. Don't forget to take a key with you!

Use a drive thru for your morning coffee :)

No

I always warm up my car by using the valet key. I turn on the car with the main key (the only key not on my keychain), then I get out and leave it in the parking lot after locking it with the valet key from the outside. You could always climb out the sunroof if you have one....

Bingo! That works best - I've gotten in the habit of using the power lock button on the armrest all the time to lock the doors, because the remote will not lock the doors if one of them is open!

Ie - two of you are getting out of the car, you close your door, your passenger's door is still open, you press the remote lock button. Your passenger closes the door - the doors are NOT locked! If you press the power lock button on your way out (after both doors are open), you hear and see the door locks activate, and when the last door is closed, the lights flash to indicate the alarm is armed.

Of course, for your scenario, you'll need another key to unlock the door to get back in - I think we can safely assume that you had already figured that part out! ;)

i'd be afraid of locking my keys in the car if i get into the habit of manually locking my doors by the power lock button...instead, i'm in the habit of pressing the "lock" button on the remote twice...if it horns, it means it's locked...if not, then it is still unlocked...i think that is safer

as for the situation at hand, there is no good way short of getting another alarm system...i suggest an automatic keyless entry system that is credit card sized and fits in your wallet...when you approach the car it unlocks and locks when you are at a distance from the car...

Um.. Just drink coffee at work? I would never transport hot liquids in a car anywya.. But maybe not possible depending on where you work..
