yogitrek 07-01-2010, 01:37 AM Hi all,
Just got home after picking up my new sled...Looks and drives BETTER than I dreamed and i DREAM big...
Just wanted to share. Thank you to all who replied to my prior questions (I went with the manual, sport model cuz I am too tall for the grand touring) in liquid silver...GREAT so far...
Cheers,
Yogi
HomicidalApple 07-01-2010, 01:40 AM great car =] welcome
really hate the color choice but whateva
enjoy. keep the revs below 4000 for the next thousand kilos. otherwise you will pay dearly for fuel and oil.

rodjonathan 07-01-2010, 03:04 PM congrats and welcome
Mr.ThunderMakeR 07-01-2010, 03:05 PM ^ Like he said, proper break-in = VERY IMPORTANT!
Congratulations on the new ride, and since noone said it yet: post pics or it doesn't exist!!
VashGS 07-01-2010, 03:16 PM 3000 miles drive it slow & ez. Get rid of the 5-20 lol. Drain it in into a container and put 5-30 in. 5-20 in rotary should be illegal Mazda just can't admit it's fail. Too much pride....
ragef22 07-03-2010, 08:58 AM Nice work...I picked up the same exact same car last week after abusing these boards with research as well. The car is fantastic and still on it's first tank of gas at 200 miles. This break it period is difficult. I primarily stay under 4500 RPM, but have reached 8 once or twice. It's killing me to not take it higher just once after feel just that...but have to respect the break in period.
Yeah, only 3 color choices this year...so if you don't want black or red...that leaves you with silver or the R3. That's how liquid silver found me. I look forward to hearing from ya on the boards. Hopefully we are able to report nothing but good things.
A note on the oil...I've read everything on the oil thing and I wish I could deviate (although after much research, the 2009-2010 is better at using 5-20 due to having higher oil pressure ECU maps), but I feel using anything but 5-20 will void the lifetime warranty I have, so 5-20 for now unfortunately despite 90 deg FL heat.
CONGRATS! :biggthump
New Yorker 07-03-2010, 09:40 PM ^ Aside from a handful of gearheads who frequent this and other forums, I bet virtually every RX-8 in the country is running 5W-20.
Others here may disagree, but if you remember to let the engine warm up before driving off, to check oil level every other fill-up, to change it every 3 months or 3K miles, to not use synthetic, to not modify the engine – and to routinely rev the sucker – you'll be fine. (I suspect many, if not most, owners fail to follow one or more of these guidelines - they're the ones who end up having problems.)
Congrats!
DarkBrew 07-05-2010, 08:22 AM Welcome and congrats!
yogitrek 07-05-2010, 01:28 PM LOVE this car so far... over 400 miles in three days- can not wait to go over 4000 rpm's.
This picture shows that a 6'6" man can fit in an RX8... and be very happy doing so. Lots of leg room and tons of "elbow room inside too ;-)

ENOUGH! To paraphrase what I said to you in your other thread: Man up dude. Take your ritalin, sit down, open the owner's manual and read it. Mommy isn't here.

Never L8 07-18-2010, 08:15 AM Muwhahaha...little history there, huh?
Congrats on the new ride. It looks great. The lack of color choices kinda sucks, but the silver does look nice. Welcome to the exclusivity club. You managed to grab an RX8 before they're gone. Mazda announced that they're stopping production of the RX8, in case you didn't hear. Very nice ride and welcome to the pistonless fam!
LOVE RX-8 07-18-2010, 06:23 PM Thanks DarkBrew, as for HiFlite999....I dont own an RX8 Yet! so therefore cant read the manual!, this is a forum where people should be able to go to ask questions and get help and equip themselves with better knoledge of the RX8. Not to be abused.

It's also a forum where many questions have been answered and archived. Where members have written FAQs. Where the moderators have made the most important of those into stickies, so they are very easy to find.
All for free. Easily accessible in a few minutes of browsing. Without abusing members by nagging them for answers to basic questions.
FWIW, the owner's manual for the 8 is available on line, with just a little searching.

RX8pwnage 07-18-2010, 06:44 PM ^ to not use synthetic,
And everyone's opinion differs (especially on oil)...I personally feel that if everyone was using 5-30 Royal Purple SYNTHETIC there would be A LOT LESS FAILURE. There is nothing wrong with running synthetic. GOOD synthetic oils, not the cheap shit obviously. Mazda uses synthetic oil every weekend, in every rotary-powered car they have on a track. Let new people research for themselves and decide what to use instead of telling them lies. Nothing wrong with synthetic, and this IS NOT A THREAD JACK!
ken-x8 07-18-2010, 07:33 PM Mazda uses synthetic oil every weekend, in every rotary-powered car they have on a track.
Requirements for track are not necessarily the same as for the street.
But I agree with you 100% that people need to research this for themselves. Even if it means plowing through the major oil threads here. They should also read up on premix.
Shifting back to the original topic. Congrats on your new car, Yogi. You're going to love it...but you knew that already. :)

Krazed_Rx8 07-19-2010, 05:15 AM Congratz! Any mods in mind?
yogitrek 07-19-2010, 01:08 PM Hi All,
I had asked about the break in period after several other owners mentioned "taking it easy for the first 1000 miles"... I wanted more information and I got some great advise including the Japanese Rotary engine manufactures break in schedule (which I am following like a fanatic- if I say only 75 miles until 7000 RPM one more time my wife might erupt and floor it for me). I am sorry if new owners questions seem redundant to some but I am very VERY happy with all the information I have gotten about my new ride. As for the owners manual the break in information seemed to be a bit basic so I asked all the experts here and I am happy I did!
Sorry again if my questions are bothering, no need to read and reply but your "flame" did give me a good laugh;-)
Yogi
currently at 6000 RPM for the next 145 miles...at 5300 the other day I hit 102 MPH and the car was pulling up a long hill at the time... ZOOM ZOOM indeed friends!!!
fuztupnz 07-19-2010, 01:38 PM Welcome. Yodi. almost there on the break in i see. Enjoy the car and the forum.

yogitrek 07-19-2010, 02:05 PM Congratz! Any mods in mind?
The car seems perfect to me right out of the box...
I will be adding heat shielding to the center console ( can't be frying my ipod nor my colas now can I?).
I did have zaino applied and it came out fantastic...
Cheers,
Yogi
RXeckless 07-19-2010, 02:21 PM Welcome, and congratz on your new acquisition.

opus_opus 07-29-2010, 07:37 AM Are there any great deals out there?
yogitrek 07-29-2010, 06:31 PM Are there any great deals out there?
I paid hundreds less than Ture Car's listed dealer's cost. I contacted three dealers and never budged on my price point. On June 30 I was contacted by two of the three dealers both wanting to sell me a car that day. They both new I was negotiating with other dealers and The third dealer told me he had gotten sever calls from dealers looking for RX8. I let him know that the calls were from dealers I was working with but he did not believe me. After I bought my ride he called and asked if I was still interested and I told him I had bought my car already. He asked how much I paid and I told him I had paid over $1,000 less than his "best" offer he literally gasped out loud.
So in short I think there are deals out there if you work at it.
Best of luck,
Yogi
