Is there any reason why an rx8 does engine "thumping"? Is it normal? Mine does exactly the same thing as in minute 1:05, the ruum bump ruum bump thingy even when its warmed up, it still keeps on doing it. Car runs fine tho... but its kinda annoying to be in the garage hearing the bump sound it makes

Excellent comparison. Not to brag, but my car frequently fires up on the first turn of the engine on warm starts and hot days. (ok, so maybe I am bragging)

Mine got replaced free as a recall(not while i owned it). Mazda should be able to print out a paper that shows everything thats been replaced at the dealer on recall.

Dang...I think I need to find me a new starter. Mine doesn't roll over half as fast as those in the videos. It takes 4-5 revolutions before it fires up. I have new coils/plugs/wires and never have misfires, so I'm guessing it's the starter. Being that RX8's are pretty rare around me, I've never heard one with a new starter before. Wow.

when I first heard this, it kinda reminded me how the old Ford 5.0 sounds like when the starter kicks in.

No car made in the last 50 years is supposed to start like that. Something's not right.

yah I'm having the same problem. Starts just like the 2nd video. Been wondering if maybe it was coils but maybe I can get a more definite answer before I throw out the $100+ on new ones.

it was pretty cold that day, about 9F I think
only had a failing cat, but replaced still doing that.

that IS pretty cold. idk either. I'm just saying if it were my car with that few miles, I'd be more than a little concerned.
