View Full Version : RX-8 VS WRX sti VS EVO VIII vs 350z
ygtoyz 01-17-2003, 11:10 AM im deciding which car i should get later this year, rx-8 or wrx sti or evoviii or 350z
but personally i like rx-8 a lil better than others...can anyone compare these cars and gimme advises
wakeech 01-17-2003, 11:42 AM these cars are fairly different...
in the 350Z, you've got a portly (but fast) 2-seater with a reportedly near-useless cargo area... they're comfy, good lookin', strong pullin, and a Z car.
in the STi and the Evo, you have AWD, turboed 4 bangers, in very compact cars with little in the way of anemities. clearly, the STi is faster (if that's what you're into), but you're gonna have to order NOW if you want one...
the deal with these cars is that they're really just hard-core performance machines, comprimising comfort, maybe even quality of the interior ( heh heh heh) to get 'em to go quick... reliability is subject to suspicion (in my eyes), as i don't know the history of these cars (more so the Mitsu... seems kinda like a Mickey Moused version of the Evo for NAm...)
the RX-8 is something very different from these... it lingers between cut and dried sports sedans, and traditional Mazda sports cars. Dan from RotaryNews.com assurs us that the handling is up to par (from what i can tell), and the power should be plenty good for regular driving... the other thing about the RX-8 is that it's got a rotary, which for some people (ie. me) is more than enough reason to choose that car over anything you can name (had i the money), of course short of an FC or an FD... ;) ('cause i'm not in dire need of a rear seat, but they're nice for gettin' it on...)
don't want to be rude, but this is more of a Lounge type of question... ;)
SlideWRX 01-22-2003, 09:32 AM Besides the looks of the cars, how do you plan to drive it? planning on going into bad weather often?
Do you prefer the kick of a turbo or a linear power delivery?
How important is doing burnouts/donuts to you?
How often do you have more than two people in the car?
If I were choosing right now, it would be between the STi or the RX-8. I'm now addicted to AWD, but love the rotary.

There should be a lounge just for these types of questions... :D

whosyourbaba 08-10-2005, 06:33 PM i personally would drop the 350z. didnt enjoy it too much when i test drove it. drove a evo mr, that was pretty fun car, but the interior lacks.
so i would go for a rx8 of course or a sti. something with mitsu i can't really trust. so there goes the evo, but if u still want it, a evo 9 is coming out with specs similar to the mr.
RotaryNoob 08-10-2005, 07:22 PM What a tech question.
Go drive them all and pick the one you like best.
QBallz 08-10-2005, 07:27 PM Just say no to gigantic wings!
Uh guys... I'm thinking he probably already made his decision.
RPIRX-8 08-10-2005, 08:17 PM hehe, check the dates of posts folks :)

priscilla ls1 08-11-2005, 01:51 AM foxman, why did you go and dig up this old thread?
But if it was me I would go with the evo 9.

Jaguar_MBA 08-11-2005, 08:24 AM Watch this video...it will help your decision making: It also compares the RX-8 to the 350Z. I bought the RX-8 because the Z only has two seats.

I hate that stupid brit! He gives all the cars I like bad reviews because they can't perform good in a autocross track! I wish he would roll the car over his bitch ass.

ya but the 8 owns it in the TWISTIES
rammstein 02-16-2006, 02:36 AM I love how lap times reveal the true virtues of a chassis. When I tested the RX8, it was really a curiosity- 4 doors, wankel engine...
My impressions were: The engine sound is truly glorious. The power is interesting in that it is not the fastest accelerating car ever, but it pulls continuously. The brakes are phenomenal for stock. Then I turned onto an exit ramp- I was sold. This car is a demon on the track. I cannot fathom how this car would be with FI. Somebody send me a kit and I will write my impressions :mdrmed:
So anyhow, this post was from 2003?
swoope 02-16-2006, 05:46 AM yea, back from the dead, twice!!!!

Same here Jag, plus I like the interior and exterior of the 8 over the Z. The Z is a nice car and they have upgraded the interior for 2006. But at the time I was looking at them is looked like the interior borrowed parts from the Altima. The Z's exterior has grown on me, its too boxy and boring.
As for the STI and EVO, very fast cars but I don't know about their reliability.
Hey Jag when are you coming back out to another RRDI?
DARKMAZ8 02-16-2006, 01:47 PM can this thread be moved to GENeral Automotive?
yiksing 02-16-2006, 01:51 PM Why suddenly all the RX-8 vs ... threads came up and the car bashing fest starts all over again?
Anyway get the Z, its the compromise between rear wheel drive handling and power.

i have the greddy turbo, and it seems to help quite a bit. my last car was a 99 trans am with 325 rwhp. my rx8 isnt as fast but its getting there. i know there are times i cant peel my head off the headrest.
DARKMAZ8 02-17-2006, 12:48 AM ttt
Pocoyo 03-20-2006, 08:49 PM i have the same dilema as the thread starter.
rx8 or wrx sti (03/04)
thanks for your views i think i have made my decision, i will just need to rent these cars out from a specialist lender vendor thingy to make 100% sure.
djseto 03-21-2006, 09:01 AM wrong subforum. PLENTY of these comparison threads exist in the RX-8 Discussion, General Automotive, and the Lounge subforum

subie's are very reliable. Evo's... i would worry more about that just because it's a mitsubishi... as good and reliable as evo owners swear they are, I still wouldn't trust a mitsu.

I was very close to jumping off the rx8 ship to finance/lease an STi (only because i wanted a fun, all weather sedan that can hold more crap).
I did a weekend of test drives of 04-06 wrx/sti's recently and came away appreciating the rx8 a lot more than I did before. Overall, the 8 is a lot classier in both look and feel. The STi interior wasn't bad and the exterior screams of boy racer. STi was freakin fast and handled very well. The fact it's awd+speed+handling+practical and not to mention you might get better mileage it's very hard to resist.

The topic as well as its formulation is utterly ridiculous. A person who starts a topic on radically different performance cars without even acknowledging their different natures while asking for advice, without specifying what he is looking for in a car as well as; where he lives (coditions) and what he intends to do with it, is either not too bright or not too serious.
Chris_Bangle 03-21-2006, 07:23 PM missed the location part, haven't changed my opinion though
