View Full Version : Saw a Crossfire in traffic yesterday
I, Claudius 02-02-2004, 05:26 PM Saw a Crossfire for the first time in traffic yesterday - at least from the rear, as I pulled up behind it. Looked great from behind - I really liked the styling, and the color was a beautiful, glossy piano black - but I can't imagine how anyone could see out that little rear window. Never got to pull alongside (or ahead) for a closer look-see because the traffic was too heavy, and then I had to turn. While we sat at a light the driver (couldn't tell whether it was a male or a female) waggled that automatic spoiler up and down a couple of times. Friendly gesture? Challenge? I dunno. Maybe the cars were communicating.
LiquidChick 02-02-2004, 06:41 PM maybe u should've taken a closer look...i saw that car the same day i saw mine...it was not a pretty sight...
zerobanger 02-02-2004, 07:04 PM eww...
The 350Z even has a nicer ass than that thing, yuk.
noahprtlnd 02-02-2004, 07:43 PM I parked next to a white one the other day and was pleasantly surprised. Best interior I've seen on an American car by far - excluding caddys. I think they're ok.
mdsbuc 02-02-2004, 08:10 PM We probably won't be looking for an new car until next fall sometime. I have been really hyped over ther rx8 for about the last month. Took a test drive and have been hooked. I've been pointing them out to the wife, showing her all the positive written material I can find. Yesterday she sees a Crossfire and goes ape over it- and she generally can't tell one car from another. What's a guy to do?
jtimbck2 02-02-2004, 08:13 PM I saw one on the road for the first time last week. 'Twas OK. I did notice its spoiler was deployed, and it was in a 35-mph zone (the spoiler deploys at 57 mph!).
jonnyb 02-02-2004, 08:49 PM i went with my aunt to test drive one when she was looking at cars. the rear view is pretty bad. the slanted window really distorts the view. it was pretty fun to drive though. its fun making the spoiler go up and down.
cruzdreamer 02-03-2004, 04:26 PM Not bad looking car but the 8 is way better looking and has the back seat going for it too!! It looks tight in that cabin and hard to see out the windows I imagine. I heard the spoiler flap is suppose to deploy at around 60mph.....hmmm....guess they can do it anytime. So what it looks cheesy kind of!! Like the hood with the long metal stripes.
Kryton 02-03-2004, 04:44 PM Got to give to Chysler for trying to push the bar up on North American cars.
Buy what ever cranks your handle, these types of vehicles are driven by passion not logic.
But I'm sticking with my 8.

Buy an 8, bring it home and give her about 30 seconds to fall in love with it!!
Shocka 02-03-2004, 05:26 PM therse a guy in my area with the crossfire he got it right around the same time i got the RX. the car is alright isnt it mostly designed by MercBenz in europe.. just with an Crysler Name tag?
bagman 02-05-2004, 01:12 AM Haha I pulled into a parking spot next to one about a week ago, and my roomate said it looked |quote| Dildoish |/unquote|.
klegg 02-05-2004, 05:03 PM I have seen three at a local dealer, and I got to say, they are pretty nice...except for the big chrome window surrond...everything else is nice, but it is NOT the 8!!!!!
DaveT 02-05-2004, 06:21 PM The Crossfire is built in Germany by Mercedes.
I looked at them, but after sitting down in it I didn't even want to drive it. Absolutely no side vision, and limited rear vision.
First time I sat down in the RX8 I felt at home. Then, I drove it.......

Saw a black one today in San Antonio - it came up behind me and pulled alongside, then took off. I thought it looked better than a Z from behind. Well, actually, I don't know if it was better, but it made me want to look at it more. You know, the RX-8 effect :D
th1rd3y3 02-06-2004, 10:24 AM Has anyone seen the top gear episode where he likens it to a sh!tting dog?
Elara 02-06-2004, 04:02 PM I feel kinda bad for the Crossfire- my company's got over 30 in stock at one of our stores, and we're advertising a discount of almost 5k below MSRP.
klegg 02-06-2004, 06:56 PM If you are small enough to fit in it, that is a good deal..it is a mercades after all..
MesquiteRX8 02-09-2004, 03:56 PM Yes - OLD Mercedes platform.
I'm 6'2" - It was a struggle to sit in it. The seats cannot recline enough due to a fixed bulkhead across the back - Very uncomfortable for anyone near 6'. Even though they offered the test drive - I didn't even bother...
I fit just great in my 8! :)
klegg 02-09-2004, 05:18 PM I agree, but even old M tech is good...better then most domestics...but it is not the 8, that is for sure../
titaniumgrey 02-09-2004, 05:19 PM my friend from school owns a white cross fire, it's a very very nice car. but I like my rx-8 better.
