Question do we or do we not have TPS???

In Canada, are our 8s equipped with tire pressure sensors?? and if so are the dunlops they provide run flats??
cause I just found a wedge of rock imbedded at the top of my sidewall... and it's hissing
and it had only about 24psi left in it when I checked but the TPS light never came on. Is it because we don't HAVE TPS or because it doesn't come on until really low psis like 15 or something? Went to a gas station and filled it up to 40 and drove home... waiting till tm to get a tire guy to fix it if possible... if not... I hope they have dunlop sp8090M in stock.... or hope the dealer's nice enough to strip one of the cars on his lot to sell me his tire

Cool No TPS for you!

No, we Canuks don't get the TPS system.

Are you sure you got Dunlops? Pretty much everyone else on the planet got Bridgestone Potenzas, RE040.......

yea I'm sure I got the dunlops
I asked my dealer about that and he said the newer ones (mine was made in dec,03) are using dunlops.... and I don't seem to be able to find the sp8060 (or8090?) M on tirerack OR dunlop's website so dunno if they're run flats... but noticing how it went down to 24psi it's probably not?
damn... good thing for some reason I was admiring my wheels tonight :P

So you got yours in the last Delivery? (Late Dec/EarlyJan) and you got Dunlops?!? I'd go out and have a look, as I just got mine off rail and it has the bridgestones like everyone else on the planet. I'll confirm what StealthTL said in that we don't have the tire pressure sensor in Canada.

I got mine on around jan 14th yea I know I was surprised when I saw the dunlops on there too and I thought my dealer was trying to pull a fast one on me and swap some crappy tires on it so I grilled him a bit about it and he said the new OEM tires for recent production's been switched to dunlop... weird...
but damn yea I guess the good thing now is I don't have to spend extra $$$ to replace a tire with the TPS

I am not sure exactly when the change was made regarding the tires, but the RX8 sitting in our showroom has Dunlop tires on it. It was a December production unit and arrived here January 20.

I got my car in Dec. and I have the RE040's.

Don't run flats have 0 pressure when theyr'e flat? I thought the rigidity of the side wall on the run flats support the weight of the car, no air pressure in the tire.

Correct. The strenght of the sidewall is what supports the weight of the car. That's why runflats are much heavier, and tend not to ride as nicely (due to stiffer sidewalls.)
However, I'm not sure if they show 0 pressure, or just very little.

Either way, I'm thankful we don't get TPMS, and since the stock tires aren't runflats, I won't feel bad ditching those horrible things when my car comes out of storage this spring.
