Can it fit?
What if I were to lower it?

Thanks Rob

I use 275/35/18 Hoosiers on the stock rim for Autocross. No trouble, don't hit anywhere. A few pics at link in signature.

Can they fit? Yes. However, that size tire is actually recommended for wheels 8.5" to 9.5" wide. The stock wheels are only 8" wide.

Yea Im actually looking to get winter tires, what size should I get for the 8 with the GT package? (I know nothing about tires) I am going to call the mechanic with the specs so he can locate a set for me, I want to use them on the current wheels...

I am buying Dunlop M3's @ 245/40-18 to put on my stock wheels for winter. We have the m3's on my dad's 745i, mom's X5, and they were on my last car---we live by them.

some of us have run up to 295/30-18 for race tires, they flatten out under high lateral cornering loads, but you'll only run on the center part for daily use and lower grip street compound

Hoosier 285/30-18 has almost become the Stock autox class standard

and this thread is old, next do a more thorough search and in the appropriate forum (for race tires search the Competition area)

They work fine-ish.

Hey Sanguine ,
Wot issues do you have with the 255s? Do they rub the fenders in the
rear with hard cornering, heavy load, etc.? Thanx - - :)

i've had 255's and they are fine with the stock set up, and i actually have the bilstein shocks (40th version) so i sit like a centimer or 2 lower and im fine!:D:

Sorry for the late reply.

Anywho, no, under normal driving with stock suspension there isn't a chance of rubbing. However, I drove three guys* home from the bar and did notice fender rub when accelerating and turning at the same time.

Note, my read springs and shocks are old and in need of replacement plus I had a full tank of gas plus four 225+lb guys in the car.
