nycgps 06-04-2010, 11:35 AM bring me back some Sevenstock stuff! :)
*negative*
:cussing:
RIWWP 06-04-2010, 11:44 AM You know, you could at least meet up with us 3 :)
http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=197270
Don't have to do the full trip, but you wouldn't be doing the trip out alone.
nycgps 06-04-2010, 11:54 AM Yeah I saw ur Thread but didn't read the whole 11 pages :)
We can go at the same time.
How many cars are going ?
RIWWP 06-04-2010, 12:00 PM Right now it is myself, Vlaze, and Adamwzl. I would be leaving the earliest, linking up with Vlaze in CT, if you come then linking up with you as we pass NYC, then around mid-day link up with adamwzl.
It will require pushing hard the 15th and 16th (18hrs per day for me, less for each of you on the 15th, 18hrs for everyone on the 16th) to get into Phoenix the night of the 16th, so we can join that group for the last day of driving into LA on the 17th. Then join the massive Socal caravan to SS early on the 18th.
Without pushing hard, and dropping back to 16hr days, we would be 4 hours short of Phoenix, and miss their group, though still arrive in LA on the 17th with time to spare.
nycgps 06-04-2010, 12:03 PM Hmm, damn 18 hrs a day, thats really pushing it.
I can try that. or maybe I can leave a day earlier and meet you guys somewhere on the path ?
Which hotel are you guys staying ? any idea ?
RIWWP 06-04-2010, 12:07 PM The night of the 15th will be around St. Louis. We haven't picked a hotel yet, honestly hoping to find a fellow rotorhead there that is willing to put us up for the night. Leaving early is certainly an option as well. I won't be able to leave any earlier, probably will be starting around 4am on the 15th as it is.

Hmm
I probably should leave on the 14th morning. drive maybe 14 hours a day, then I will probably see you guys on day 3 or day 4.
The Reverend 06-04-2010, 12:13 PM yikes 14 hours of driving I do not envy you
glad all you guys are coming though :)
You guys should check the Saint Louis Area 8 Owners thread maybe one of us could help you out.... I would but im in sofla for the summer
edit: heres the link http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=90355

(If a train leave Denver headed east at 56 MPH......sorry)
If you leave on the 14th, drive 14 hours, then 14 hours on the 15th. You will be 10 hours ahead of us by the end of the 15th. If the same 14/18, then you will get to Phoenix 6 hours ahead of us on the 16th.
I mean, do what you have to do, if you aren't willing to do 18 per day, but more than a few hours shifting total and we won't meet up at all until at least Phoenix, if not Sevenstock :)
Just something to keep in mind.
Vlaze 06-04-2010, 12:20 PM (If a train leave Denver headed east at 56 MPH......sorry)
 nicely played

if Im going to leave on the 14th, maybe 12 hours a day then on the 16th we should be able to meet up. sounds good ?
RIWWP 06-04-2010, 12:52 PM Sure :) It's your trip at that point...so I guess we would see you in Phoenix :)
nycgps 06-04-2010, 01:00 PM Its not final yet. I might still go with you guys and do that 16 hours a day extremeeee thing :P
Im checking hotels along the route right now.
Mazmart 07-02-2010, 01:23 PM If I go this year, I'm flying (Just thought I'd rub that in). NYC, it would be such a pleasure to finally meet you.
Paul.
SayNoToPistons 07-04-2010, 03:08 AM If I had a few grand lying around, guts to take my 8 on a trip longer than 100 miles, and no class; I would definitely come with. Pointing out the impossible right now :( .
quazmosis 07-07-2010, 09:53 AM Good luck NYCGPS!!!
nycgps 07-16-2010, 10:26 AM thx guys hoho ~
Im thinking ---- should I really drive over or take a plane.
cost is one thing but ---- man I mean sure its fun to drive BUT ----- Alone ? T_T
So I dunno, I might just fly over then have a local Enterprise rent-a-car to pick me up at the air port or something.
RIWWP 07-16-2010, 10:32 AM I guess it depends. If you are an alcoholic, and go to a bar as a DD, can you stand it?
I'm not willing to go to Sevenstock without my 8. Too much torture. Others may be different than I.

lol no I don't drink
its just that all the women around me (!!!!!!) kept bitching about my decision. Well they have a point, its a lot of money and time wasted (!!!)
but women just don't understand the relationship between us and our 8 ... they will never understand our love ...
So ... lemme think, still got some time.
RIWWP 07-16-2010, 01:29 PM Don't label it as the cost of gas and wear and tear. Label it as the cost of creating a memory that will last a lifetime.
I am sure if you take a peek at their expenses, there is a hell of alot that they spend money on with less reasoning, less memories, less lasting value, etc...
No, if you point that out, and they acknowledge it, and STILL have issues with you going from a cost perspective, then they are just objecting to you spending the money on something other than them :)
If my trip ends up being canceled due to job change, then consider getting the guy that is currently planning on being my co-driver. He is northern NJ near I-287. Cuts costs down. (See my thread for the info on that)

To women, the above means "blah blah blah" :(
I am sure if you take a peek at their expenses, there is a hell of alot that they spend money on with less reasoning, less memories, less lasting value, etc...
To women, the above is always right, gotta do whatever it takes to make them happy, even if she forgets the whole thing in less than 10 minutes.

This is the main point ... I think :scared:

Gotta wait and see what happens. Will keep the info in mind. Thx ;)

Maybe some clothing?
In all seriousness though
alcohol wipes,
a light blanket,
a jacket that would be suitable for 35 and above,
Gloves,
tissues,
2 or 3 cases of of water
Fix a flat
a rain pancho
2 pillows one for your lower back one for your neck (while sleeping in the 8)
a box of granola/protein bars
Gatorade and water are your friend,
when you fill up at gas stations stretch your legs each time.
I would save space and bring 2 jack stands.
try to stay away from using AC,
stay away from energy drinks,
I drive cross country allot and I always find myself in weird places and situations. one time I got stuck going up a mountain in Colorado. luckily I brought stock tires (on my 300zx) swapped them out in the middle of a storm and got down the mountain safely. Ive also overheated/car randomly stalled in Baker in 108 degree weather, luckily I had 4 gallons of water with me.
In September when you cross Colorado you will hit around 33-35 degree temps at night. In Vegas you'll hot around 90. I basically like to be prepared in case i get stuck in my car for a long period of time for any reason.
With that said pack light. Like the oil 12-15 qts might be a bit overkill, id bring enough for one oil change.
Just be prepared. and try and hit southern Utah during the day time or sunset its beautiful.

elysium19 08-15-2010, 12:55 AM you crazy SOB ;-)
nycgps 08-18-2010, 12:39 AM Thx for the advise guys :)
Now I might have access to a free plane ticket ... so if I am gonna take a flight, which airport should I go? Orange County ?
shadycrew31 08-18-2010, 12:59 AM OC is closer.
nycgps 08-18-2010, 01:34 AM Orange County, CA (SNA-John Wayne) ?
shadycrew31 08-18-2010, 01:42 AM Yeap. Im pretty sure that's the closest.
nycgps 08-18-2010, 08:44 AM sweet.
lets see if I can get that free ticket ... 6-7 hrs of flight sound a lot better than 43 hours of driving :P
but going to 7 stock without my rotary is kinda .... :(
RIWWP 08-18-2010, 08:49 AM I'm still doing my haul to SS13, but don't think any of it would line up with yours pre-Phoenix, if you don't fly.
Would be leaving here after work on the 14th, driving to NJ, picking up my co-driver, he drives through the night while I sleep, I drive the next day, we stop in Tulsa for the night, Phoenix the next day for the AZ caravan.
My sister is flying in to LA from MN to join me up the west coast and then back down to CO (it looks like), where I drop her off at my brother's and drive back home solo, getting home on the 25th probably.
nycgps 09-02-2010, 07:45 AM Now I think 80% chance that I will take the plane ... if I have a co-driver I might change ...
oh well. almost time to buy the ticket ... :)
oh by the way, are you guys gonna leave right after the show or ? cuz I was thinking of visiting places like Racing Beat and stuff? dunno yet. :(
RIWWP 09-02-2010, 07:52 AM My co-driver is flying back on his own now. My sister is joining me for the additional drive and we are leaving early the day after. I would like to stick around a day, do some LA canyons and the cruise they are planning, but if I did, it would remove flexibility and delay padding from our route, and I could easily risk not getting home until sunday the 26th.

I doubt they are open that day, they are usually closed on Saturdays. Same with Mazdatrix. I think the socal crew might be going bar hoping for an afterparty.
Jedi54 09-02-2010, 11:33 AM nycgps: Racing Beat will be AT SevenStock (or at least they have been for the past 5 years) so going there afterwards is out.
They typically are closed on Sundays unless they're showing a select few some super secret mazda prototype stuff on sunday. :suspect:
