wow. i just started subscribing this year.

I subscribe to all but autoweek. They all have their fine points, I like MotorTrend the least (that one is easy for me).

If I had to choose one and only one to read, it would be CarandDriver, but I like the road tests best in RoadandTrack, and the articles/editorials in Automobile. CarandDriver seems to be the best "all-around" imo.

That is an awfully short list - I guess 'Automobile' is the best of a bad bunch.

I prefer the import/tuner/ modding type, or the british ones if I can find them....'TopGear' is very good. With the new global kind of auto business, it is only a matter of time before the 'exotic' cars come over here......
Lotus Elise/VX220, Skyline, Euro spec Accord, they all get here eventually.

I find the mainstrean US mags a bit conservative, their idea of a car mod is CocoaMats.

Automobile is all right but I didn't like it when David E. Davis left his post as senior editor of C&D to help kick start Automobile! It just was not the same without him!

That's a tough one - I picked Automobile. I subscribe to Automobile and Car and Driver, and pick up Motor Trend and Road and Track every once in awhile. The problem for me with Car and Driver is they're super conservative and they get political fairly often (Brock Yates is an idiot).

with all due respect, i can't stand automobile, both its editorials and road tests. the magazine is pretty, but to me they don't seem very knowledgeable and definitely not very technical, very glossy. i like road & track best, car and driver second

I agree with you about Automobile being more gloss than tech - but I enjoy the writing, it tends to be entertaining.

David E Davis writes well and the photography is wonderful.

Autoweek is the best, because it is published weekly. The info is no more than a week old. But with the monthly mags, the info is at least several weeks old. Of the monthly mags, I prefer Automobile.

Automobile sucks. They had a big sport sedan comparison and almost all the cars had a manual.

But they *chose* (what they said in the article) to test a 325i with a automatic. Why? All other cars were manual?

The driving impressions are going to be different, the numbers will not correlate properly.... what a bunch of idiots.

Car and Driver -- IMHO -- is the only one worth a damn. R&T is a very close second.

The rest (for US mags) suck rocks...

My favorites include the ones above (I voted for C&D) plus these:

Sport Compact
Import Tuner
Turbo High Tech and Performance
Modified

I really subscribe to all of them. I am a magazine junky.

i like motor trend because it has all the stats of the cars in the back of the mag which is always good when wanting to see some quick numbers.

but along with that i get all auto mags listed except C&D because they as said before seem to be a little too conservative. But I also Like SCC.

You guys missed what I think is the ONLY decent car magazine out there: Sports Car International. They have people like Pete Brock, a veteran racer and car designer, Winston Goodfellow, who covers the vintage car market, and many industry insiders.
It's published bi-monthly, and they cover the good stuff.

They refused to test the Porsche Cayenne with this message:

"While the car is indeed made by Porsche, it is an SUV, and as such, will not be tested by this magazine."

I have been getting C&D and R&T for about 15 years...M&T tends to be crap, and automobile......well, I guess I got tired of "drove here eat this that and that, had wine X...oh the car was nice"..

You are right about that...who cares about some restaurant in the middle of Bum-Fu*k.
I also do not like Jean Jennings and her "vile gossip", but they did name the RX-8 to the All-Stars list, which is nice.
