View Full Version : I got rear-ended
Stenobeth 05-22-2010, 10:45 AM Sitting at a red light in downtown Doylestown, where I didn't think it was even possible to get over 15 mph on the little piece of road I was on, some guy in a '96 Maxima comes flying out of nowhere and SLAMS into the back of me. The screech and the impact were so close together that I didn't even know it was coming, which I guess is good. Anyway, first thought through my head: Oh crap I hope I wake up NOW out of this nightmare; second thought: Maybe I can just buff it out; third thought: :cussing::cussing::cussing:
I am totally amazed at how little damage there is for the impact that it was. I mean, it's bad, really bad, because the trunk lid is off kilter and there's a buckle in front of the passenger side wheel well, but on the outside it doesn't look all that bad. Considering the fact that my driver seat was pushed more than halfway back AND it's halfway broken off the floor of the car, I got thrown forward and back, twice, pretty freakin hard.
The pictures won't show miuch. Now it's a matter of getting it fixed, which I'm not looking forward to. In the meantime, the rental car agency put me in a Chevy HHR. lol
oh, and I'm gonna need a new rear accent.
lepichichi 05-22-2010, 11:21 AM ^^ ohhhh no beth not you!, are you ok?? if you need any help I'm only a phone call away. I hope everything turns out ok for you.
Stenobeth 05-22-2010, 11:58 AM Thanks, Oscar :) I'm okay, just a little sore. This is NOTHING compared to how yours was!! lol Thanks again
laythor 05-22-2010, 12:01 PM from the damge you've described i'm gonna go with "it's totaled"
Stenobeth 05-22-2010, 12:06 PM nnnnnNNNNoooooooooooooooooo!!!! :( I drove it home, an hour and a half drive, and it didn't pull or anything. I hope it's not totaled, damm :(
Easy_E1 05-22-2010, 01:14 PM So sad. I hope you get an accident attorney.
GeorgiaBII 05-22-2010, 01:16 PM Totalled...
ShellDude 05-22-2010, 01:31 PM ouch... hopefully the "totalled" comments are wrong... flipside is I hear the 2011s are coming out soon!
Stenobeth 05-22-2010, 04:07 PM I like your attitude, Shell!
Man, I miss my car so much already, and it hasn't even been off the road for 24 hours! I feel like I'm driving an empty bus around in this HHR, bleagh!
Baez rx8 05-22-2010, 04:53 PM damm sorry to hear that beth ..and if u ok thats all it matters..
yomomspimp06 05-22-2010, 04:58 PM sorry to hear that...I watched your burnout vid :) good stuff

The Buckle in the side of the car says totaled. :( I am sorry but I would be very surprised if they didn't. Add to the damage on the seat and it's toast no matter what.
laythor 05-22-2010, 05:00 PM get
an
attorney
Stenobeth 05-22-2010, 06:27 PM Thanks, Carlos, how are you guys??
And thanks everyone else. I usually go out and do donuts when I'm stressed... I guess I need a new stress reliever for a while :(
I work in a courthouse, so I should be able to find an attorney easily enough. I hope it doesn't get to that point, I'd rather just get my car back and get back to donut making. I'm in shock thinking it could actually be totalled, omg :(
laythor 05-22-2010, 06:50 PM at the very least talk to one of the attorneys you probably know... the guy who hit you has insurance i'm guessing. His insurance is going to try to lowball you. Settle for nothing less then full replacement of your car.
Lord ET 05-22-2010, 08:48 PM Thanks, Carlos, how are you guys??

Step 1:
Go to Mc Donald's 'borrow' 10 trays
Step 2: find parking lot and roll back tires onto a pair of trays
Step 3: Lock e-brake, turn wheel and give it some gas
repeat until trays are gone.:beer05:
Stenobeth 05-23-2010, 09:56 AM ^ hehehe sounds like fun :)
Stenobeth 05-23-2010, 08:36 PM I have a set of side skirts that never got installed -- good thing, I guess now since they probably would've been messed up. I wonder if the body shop would put them on while they're doing the repairs? And my fog light kit too. lol
failsafe 05-24-2010, 09:45 AM Sorry to hear Beth. =( glad you're ok though!
L337fpc 05-24-2010, 01:24 PM thats terrible man!
Stenobeth 05-24-2010, 05:33 PM Thanks Pete, Francesco. It's getting towed to Faulkner tonight. Hopefully they'll get it fixed fast (and right). It sucked passing two 8s on the road today and not being in mine! lol

It was the same for me when my trans went and I had all of my electrical problems. I saw more local rx8s then ive ever seen before.
No worries, as long as ur alright...thats what matters.
syntheticdarkness 05-24-2010, 08:33 PM I'm sorry. I hope it's not totaled. At least you can still watch it in the video until it gets fixed if that helps hold you over.
Stenobeth 05-24-2010, 08:37 PM Thanks! I'm such a freak, I watch that video at least once a week. lol
I just watched it get flatbedded away not ten minutes ago. It really stinks! :( But at least now the healing process has begun.
The opinions are running about 50/50 over totalled/not totalled. The tow truck guy just said that the damages have to be over 80% of the cost of the car to be totalled, so I'm really leaning towards believing they won't total it out. I post here when I find out.
VashGS 05-24-2010, 11:25 PM Oh .. damn.. :( Glad your ok.
Stenobeth 05-25-2010, 08:06 PM Thanks Vash.
Well, I got it towed in last night :sadwavey: so they could get the estimate done today and get to work, and what do they do but send the inspector to my house in NJ instead of the dealership in PA where the car is sitting and waiting. :spank: AAARRRGGH! It's gonna be a long few weeks... I want my car back! :(
Stenobeth 05-27-2010, 01:31 PM The estimate as of now is $2800. He said to expect more once they start pulling parts off. It's due to be done the first week of June.

They said that with my civic... So I bring it to be fixed and a day later get a call they are totalling my car. I hope you get fixed up without issue.

Dude, "buzz kill"... At least give it a chance.

Really! Thank you!
Geeez, Georgia! :Freak_ani lol
I know the number will go up, but as long as they don't find 8,000 more in damage, I should be avoiding totality -- I mean totalledness -- I mean putting my girl in the junkyard!

Sorry a bit bitter over my last dealings with an insurance co.
I ended up settling on damages of 3800 and keeping the car.
Cost me 300 to fix it. I don't do body work for a living but I know how to.
