These images are raw, right off the card from the digital camera. We will have a full writeup and driving impressions of the RX-8 as soon as we absorb all we did today (full speed laps at MRLS, autocross, and an hour drive down California's Highway 1.) Know this however, this car has impressed two hard core rotorheads. This is a rotary sports car, while not a replacement for the raw FD3S RX-7, it is a refined, well tuned, predictable car, that it it's soul is a rotary. " Maurice 01-16-2003, 09:42 PM Awesome, I want that special aero package that is on the titanium.  Elara 01-16-2003, 09:46 PM Well, that answers the question of that strange little button to the right of the console! And now we can see pictures of the blue too. And the shots of all the cars lined up...oh wow.... Thanks again Buger! revhappy 01-16-2003, 09:54 PM Great link! The car really looks good. From the side, it look really sleek. Looking diagnolly into the side..it looks a little sedany..but overall..I really liked the pics!:D Hercules 01-16-2003, 09:55 PM Do you see what I see? *cough* fog *cough* http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc01893.jpg Renesis08 01-16-2003, 10:00 PM Lot's of pics..... *Right click save as...* :D jtdwab 01-16-2003, 10:01 PM Originally posted by Hercules Do you see what I see? *cough* fog *cough* Okay I am a little slow? I've seen enough pictures of the car, I want video or a review :) SmokingClutch 01-16-2003, 10:36 PM Someone want to tell me why the Cosmo has a Racing Beat emblem on the VERY stock looking aircleaner?! ZoomZoomH 01-16-2003, 10:54 PM http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc01880.jpg I'm definitely getting the blue, it is saweeeet as hell  Renesis08 01-16-2003, 11:01 PM Originally posted by ZoomZoomH I'm definitely getting the blue, it is saweeeet as hell  I C Blue is your fav color. :D IGOZMZM 01-16-2003, 11:02 PM Neat idea for the keys to have them color coded to the color of your car, that is if they actually do it for the production version. I think that is the best looking pic of the bunch and I normally hate white cars. http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc01785.jpg eccles 01-17-2003, 12:18 AM Originally posted by ZoomZoomH I'm definitely getting the blue, it is saweeeet as hell  Yeah , baybee! However, the colors in the outdoor pics looks dull or slightly washout. Is it me? Renesis08 01-17-2003, 12:33 AM Originally posted by Good Duck I appreciate RotaryNews for posting the pics so quickly. However, the colors in the outdoor pics looks dull or slightly washout. Is it me? I think it might be the camera... It didn't bring out the colors too well. They look very saturated and over/underexposed shots on many of them. It looked like a cloudy day too so who knows? Kasmiur 01-17-2003, 05:25 AM Was looking at the picture. Thing looks like a sportscar I would drive. http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc02060.jpg Looks like a futuristic version of the rx7 almost. I just dig the front.. I wish i was this guy Clear in the background in the middle. Surrounded by rx8's. http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc02077.jpg now off I go to change my shorts:-( litespeed 01-17-2003, 09:27 AM The spoiler will be a option by the time it is produced? It looks good but not as wild as the "X" car. Also, will the "clear" side markers make it or can we add aftermarket? Clear is clearly nicer! evel333 01-19-2003, 12:02 AM Originally posted by IGOZMZM Neat idea for the keys to have them color coded to the color of your car, that is if they actually do it for the production version. See link http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc01790.jpg Seeing that display makes the keys look even more like something out of a Japanese sentai show--with different colored keys for each ranger. "ROTAR-CHANGER!" (I wonder if anyone gets that joke...) I know what you mean bwuahahaha! :D TerenceT 01-20-2003, 02:36 AM -787b is just plain awesome -so much for rear fold down seats with that intergrated V bar in the rear, but upside is we don't have to pay for an aftermarket rear tower bar :D -rear fog is wierd, it's suppose to cast light on the driver side road line but if it's in the middle.. would it work? is someone going to wire it so it lights up when you brake? -tilt sunroof? yeeel.. this car is as big as a NSX but the roof is not big enough to slide the sunroof in? -what tires are they running? Potenza what? -with the radio volume button in the middle, looks like they solved the problem with the left/right hand drive radio problem (a la g35 with the power/volume button on the right side) -with this radio design, is aftermarket HU even possible? looks like the face plate is one piece from vent to under the a/c control with the circlar trim. -looks like they have cloth seats? meaning sport package only? but with an indash cd changer? -understeering? http://images.rotarynews.com/images/LagunaSecaJan03/mvc01804.jpg -aftermarket seats would deactivate both side airbag -wonder what the G-Tech Pro reading is on this? -787b is too awesome to have just ONE picture!!!!!!!!!! Z's Nightmare 01-20-2003, 04:06 AM the blue looks pretty nice but the x-man car killed it for me so imma go with the titanium IGOZMZM 01-20-2003, 04:11 AM Someone posted on another thread that the color keyed keys are a special key and the normal key is not color coded..... Maybe the colored keys are for those of us that preordered :) Puppy1 01-20-2003, 11:35 AM Originally posted by IGOZMZM Someone posted on another thread that the color keyed keys are a special key and the normal key is not color coded..... It should be a point of pride for Mazda and we rotary fans that Mazda is the only Japanese manufacturer to win LeMans, and they did it with a rotary. The following year the rotary was outlawed... cowards! Guess the snooty Europeans didn't like anyone breaking into their club. I'm sure the 787b was a reality check for them. How about a 475hp 4-rotor Renesis "Mazda NSX" to compete with the Ferrari 360... but priced at say, $60,000? :-) I bet it would sell better than the NSX ever did! Maybe it could be the RX-9, or RX-787... ZoomZoom 01-20-2003, 12:14 PM Originally posted by DonG35Miata That it is. If Mazda ever produced that car for $60,000 they would have to beat their customers away with a stick!!! The car would have to go down in history as one of the greatest cars ever built. :D Evolv 01-20-2003, 01:55 PM Was there a clear shot of a black 8, or did I miss that?? spindoc 01-20-2003, 05:53 PM So whatever happened to the Rotarynews "full write-up"? The first of two rotarynews.com reviews has spoken, and it is good. Linear powercurve, the ability to go tail-happy with DSC and great interior room. If Dan Mazzella is satisfied, then none of us have anything to worry about. As a first gen RX-7 owner, I can attest to the imperceptable acceleration. First gens aren't fast by todays standards, but in comparison with other similarly powered cars, the 1st gen glides up to speed. The over-rev buzzer can sneak up on you in a hurry :D And while I'm on the soapbox, I'm glad to see Mazda return to its roots with the rotary, as a cheap, competitve alternative to world class piston-engined sports cars. I don't need to remind anyone here that the 1st gen RX-7 with its 101hp blew away all the Sports/GT cars in it's class for thousands less than the competition. The 280Z, Porsche 914, Toyota Supra, the Corvette, all of them were beaten by the total package that was the RX-7. It wasn't the fastest, or the most comfortable, but it was the best of everything rolled into one car. Just like the RX-8. Berny and I wanted to make sure everything was correct, and we weren't stepping on each other's feet when posting the two part article. Coupled with the Race Berny was part of last weekend, plus the fact I hadn't been home in almost 2 weeks pushed the article back. Anyhow, part I is here now, part two in a day or two. Hercules 01-22-2003, 12:25 AM Thanks Dan, good read :) B-Nez 01-22-2003, 12:36 AM Yes, thank you, Dan. I especially liked your compare and contrast to the 1st and 2nd Gen RX-7. This is everything I've wanted the RX-8 to be - feel like my long-gone '91 coupe, but better and with more power (and 4 seats!). I, for one, will be very happy, even if the 0-60s and 1/4 mile end up disappointing everyone else. FritzMan 01-22-2003, 07:54 AM 2-stage DSC sounds pretty cool. 1st stage allows a little wheel spin for lively acceleration off the line, but kicks in should you want it, but forget to engage it during spirited driving on public streets. A full-off switch is also great for lapping/auto X. Good to see it's fairly relaxed in coming on-line, making it more likely sporty drivers keep it on and still have some fun. I think the car will rock with a i/h/e package. I'm sure not only the extra power would be better, but the sound should be awesome! |
