I've owned four! I owned an Audi A4...but if you're going to count Audi, you have to count Porsche, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, and Skoda! They're all owned by VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group). fredinlou 01-29-2004, 10:57 PM I have had 4 and i plan on buying the next gen gti 200hp turbo a year from now & sell the rx-8. I am worried that i am going to take a bath on it (i bought it on ford plan so i figured it wasnt a bad investment but with all the new ones sitting on lots and people scared to buy, with all the mpg flooding issues etc i am concerned, oh well its only money and you cant take it with you..... vee dubs are swwwwwweeeeeettt and so is my rx-8 but in a different way. i guess i am a dub aholic, i just couldnt buy the currrent golf after i saw the next gen in pics; independent rear suspension more power etc.... jtimbck2 01-29-2004, 11:06 PM whew fred -- hope you don't talk like you post, otherwise when would you find time to breathe! ;) ALWAZL8 01-29-2004, 11:41 PM My first car was a red VW bug.... I think it was a '70 something model. That was moons ago and way before I was really interested in cars! garyna 01-29-2004, 11:52 PM Let's see...make it a total of 8 '68 Beetle - stolen '81 Jetta - sold for motorcycle '84 GTi - track car then sold '98 New Beetle - sold '00 Audi S4 - Lemon, Audi buyback '01 Audi allroad - sold '02 Porsche C4S - still own '02 Audi S8 - my present daily driver '03 20th Anniversary GTi - gave it to my son For the record, VAG doesn't own Porsche any longer, that was many moons ago. mazdabob 01-30-2004, 03:38 AM 75 VW Scirroco 87 VW Quantum Syncro wagon (awd) 98 Audi A4 Avant Quattro Sport (awd) 00 VW Passat GLX wagon 02 VW Passat GLX wagon (awd) aa87 01-30-2004, 04:58 AM 93 slc corrodo best car i ever owned. SpYnalChRd81 01-30-2004, 05:14 AM I had to drive a red VW Beetle for my first year with a license wondered why people kept honking me and trying to run me off the road... Now my family has a new VW Passat that feels like a friggin BOAT when I drive it. that whole leaning forward and backward motion I dunno if it is suspensions or what not but if it is, it's terrible! how did my parents ever pick the car??? Aratinga 01-30-2004, 02:39 PM If an Audi counts, I'm sorry to say I'm in. '79 or '80 Audi 4000. Fell apart at about 60,000 miles, but kinda fun when it ran. I notice that I NEVER see these or 5000's on the road anymore. I think they were programmed at the factory to self-destruct (or accelerate themselves into walls in the case of the 5000). No more VW products for me, thanks.... and anybody who spends $90 grand on a Phaeton needs his head seriously examined. moRotorMotor 01-30-2004, 07:01 PM I'm ashamed of admitting this but our family has owned one of the most laughed at cars of all time. I think VW are fantastic but not this particular one. It was made fun of in an old Hummer commercial. My sister's first car when she got her license was a 1982 VW Rabbit. That car (if you can call it a car) had over 200' 000 kms before the odometer and spedometer gave out and continued running a year after that. We sold it to our friend after and it's still on the road till this day. No doubt in my mind that little rabbit could run another 100' 000 kms. WARPrints 01-30-2004, 10:17 PM '85 GTI - red. Second greatest car I'd had. SAAB Sonett III was the best. Elara 01-30-2004, 11:34 PM I had a 1973 Superbeetle with a baja kit for my first car. Loudest thing I have ever driven. And probably the worst death trap too. RX-GR8 01-30-2004, 11:37 PM Originally posted by Elara I had a 1973 Superbeetle with a baja kit for my first car. Loudest thing I have ever driven. And probably the worst death trap too. i had a 1972 semi-automatic VW beetle. i remember buying a new exhaust from jc whitney for it for that pleasnt throaty sound. i woke up the neighbors with that! :D flyboyindy 01-30-2004, 11:44 PM I have a 2003 Jetta.. Tornado Red...to go along with my Velocity Red... obviously the marketing departments of Mazda and VW are thinking RED MEANS FAST rxeightr 01-31-2004, 11:50 AM Had a '99 New Beetle for a coupla years. inittab 01-31-2004, 05:50 PM Originally posted by flyboyindy I have a 2003 Jetta.. Three bugs--1960, 1962, 1967. One Passat--1998. Genom 02-03-2004, 03:07 PM Yup. 1982 VW Atlantic chinx 02-03-2004, 03:49 PM my parents owned an early 90s passat, bought at my advice :D 'cuz i thought it was real nice at the time. it was real nice when brand new, looked pretty slick, very roomy inside and very comfortable. but soon it turned out to be the worst car we've ever owned. glitches everywhere, transmission was shot, and engine overheated. and then we swore we'd never buy another vw again :p i used to like vw's a lot, esp the GTI, scirocco, corrado, the bus, and cabriolet. but they lost me since they went upmarket and yuppie recently. i mean, "people's" car and yuppie pretentious luxury, that's like hypocrisy, with all due respect :D RxGuru 02-03-2004, 03:52 PM 01' VW Golf (Still own) 92' Jetta 76' Beetle LiveToRev 04-06-2005, 07:09 AM 2001 Vw Gti 1.8t MadRonin 04-06-2005, 11:43 AM Just got rid of my wife's 2001 VW Cabrio that gave her so many problems this past year. I had two Audi 4000s (1980 + 1981) years ago. Both were unreliable, money pits. When we bought my wife's Cab I thought that VW/Audi had finally fixed all of their problems. A few motor mounts, strut tops, a power window pump, peeling door handles, new differential, transmission, and a whole slew of electrical system problems later, and I think I'm pretty much done with VW/Audi. They may have a great marketing department, and some of the best interiors on the market, but their products are iffy at best. Nemesis8 04-06-2005, 11:47 AM 77 Scirroco 99 Passat Why did you ask? AceFreely 04-06-2005, 02:04 PM I bought a 2000 Jetta brand new. My first "new" car. Boy what a disappointment. Oil consuption, leaky, cheap plastic pieces. I went to open the glove box one day and it broke off. I traded it in for a 2003 Honda Accord for my wife. Lemme tell you, huge difference in build quality. I'll never buy another Volkswagen... -Ace foxman 04-06-2005, 02:57 PM 1974 Beetle Convertible, it was much fun. G-ReX 04-21-2005, 09:21 PM A 71 Karmann Ghia wreck; my first car. Fun car, though. And yellow, of course. globi 04-27-2005, 04:18 PM I bought an Audi 80 (1974) for $200 15 years ago, fixed it, drove it for 6 month and sold it for $1400. It had 5 seats and weighed 1740 lbs. I guess back then they knew how to build light cars. (Nowadays weight doesn't matter anymore because gasoline is so cheap - or is it?) Nubo 05-03-2005, 06:12 PM '67 beetle that was kind of a basket case but still a cool car. Cream white. Bondo'd the fenders and painted them powder blue since that's the color of rustoleum that the hardware had 2 cans of. Could usually fix the thing with stuff you already had around the house. '71 beetle convertible. Orange. A real oddball. Had some features of the super beetle. Also had the most pathetic transmission ever devised -- the "auto stick". When you pushed the stick, it made an electrical contact. A big tank in the back stored vaccuum from the manifold and was used to actuate a clutch. It had a torque converter too, so you could leave it in gear. I remember having a long argument with a kid at a full-service station in West Virginia when he refused to sell me auto transmission fluid. "Naw, you don't want any of that stuff you'll ruin your car!" I had to get out and prove it to him. The transmission fluid "dipstick" was, like, 4 1/2 feet long with a spring in the middle. Pulled it out and let him stare at it jangling. He shook his head and got me a can of fluid. I imagine the kid was talking for days about that weird Volkswagen. Meanwhile we had Winnebagos backing up behind us as we struggled to make it up the hills, and then fearing for our lives trying to slow down at the bottoms. One of the best vacations ever :D nbthing 05-03-2005, 06:28 PM 1978 Type 2 westfalia camper... bought this bus with 30 K miles on a rebuilt engine and tranny (and, I believe 210 K miles on the car). I drove it from LA, Calif. to upstate NY and return so that I could bring home the junk I had accumulated during 4 years of college back east. No breakdowns and only routine maintenance (oil changes) required the entire trip. 2002 New Beetle Turbo (the wife's)... cyber green. My wife's daily driver-- overall a good car. But, has had its share of electrical glitches... now that its no longer under warranty, I fear it's a time bomb-- modern VW parts are not cheap. Although with one 20 month old and another on the way, we're looking to replace this. 1973 Type 181 (The Thing)... pumpkin orange. Bought this as a daily driver when I moved back to Southern CA, and was waiting for the Rx-8 to come out. Decided to keep it as a weekend car-- gets much more attention than the 8. 1967 Type 2 Deluxe Microbus (13 window). The last year of the split front window. Also the first year of dual circuit brakes, and the first full year of 12V electrics (I think some later '66s have 12V). Seats 9 (though only have seatbelts for 8). Bought to replace the new beetle. Great car for trips around town especially with lots of people... not so good for freeway driving... or going up hills. truemagellen 05-06-2005, 02:22 AM F-ck no! Dislike em all...always have :) Actually I am serious (those who read my posts should know :)) the car of the 3rd Reich  |
