My keepers last 10 years or so. Most of the beaters in this list were my wife's, because, well, that's what she does to cars, much to the detriment of the neighborhood. After the GS I went back to the Expedition. I discovered once I could afford a Lexus that my tastes drifted back to good old Yankee boat-pullers. Ford took a step backwards when they phased out the Bronco with the removable top. I think my Vega wins the Yugo in crassness.

Funny how you don't remember your Audi. My wife and I have noticed that no one can see ours. For a long time we had people pull into the side of the car and constantly getting cut off. Finally (the week we were married) someone pulled into the car while she was driving. The lady said she looked and my wife saw her looking but I guess the car was in stealth mode once again.

My RX-8 doesn't have that problem :) .

The transition from American cars to Japanese cars came when I moved from West Texas back to Austin (my third time to live here) and I got the RX-7 Turbo. The RX-7 was also my first car with a manual transmission and it was so much easier to drive than I had built it up to be. :p

Now that I work for Mazda and get the chance to drive all of our new cars, I love the RX-8 the most, of course. I have not even driven my Miata for a couple of weeks now but having it as my personal car and getting to drive the others is great.

Front wheel drive, so the floor is completely flat, couch seats made of foam, and hydro-pneumatic suspension that would make a Cadillac owner weep!

The best-riding car ever made (you can debate it, but you'll lose) with steering BMW would kill for, headlights that swivel around corners, and the best brakes of any car from it's period (first built in 1959!), it had a trunklid, hood and fenders of aluminum, and the suspension could be set low for the highway, or cranked up to about 12" high for kerbs or deep puddles.

You can probably tell I liked that DS a lot........

1988 RX-7 FC N/A, bought with 120,xxx miles on the clock from 2nd owner, completely stock save for an RB catback and Koyo rad, no problems (except for a flood once caused by me), drove trouble-free until 175,xxx miles or so, and sold it some a friend who still has back in PA. Currently has roughly 240,000 miles on the clock and still running perfect. Thing is a tank.

1992 Honda Civic CRX- bought as a project car with a box of parts including a huge turbo (not running), ended up not having the cash or the time and sold it within a month

1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport (still own 157K miles)
2004 RX-8 (loving it at 78K miles, no problems except the one flood)

And every one of them were manual transmissions. Only replaced one clutch (Subaru's at less than 40K miles) but all the others were/are original clutches.
