Good Morning,

My car is suffering from low compression and unfortunately out of warranty.
I was wondering if anyone locally (I'm in San Bernardino) has any experience rebuilding our motors. I have called around to shops and dealers and they are charging more than I can really afford right now to rebuild or replace the engine.
Any feedback or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oh crap..

Well, maybe it's worth a letter or two? See if they'll look after you

No harm trying.

Good luck!

Can you post pics of the internals if possible?

Also try contacting PR Motorsports. They don't do rebuilds any longer but they'll refer you to someone.

Edit: nevermind, just saw that you're in Southern CA.

It seems like the places I'm calling are recommending just getting a re-manufactured motor, as opposed to trying to rebuild it. Any suggestions on where I can get a decent priced motor?
as always any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I was wondering if you have any experience with PR Motorsports? I have recently "adopated" them as the shop that my 8 goes to for work. Just spent like $500 to replace oil, tranny, diff. and brake overhaul with my parts. Just curious.

They are a well respected shop for Mazda owners. I've been going to them for years in my Miata and plan the same for the RX8. They'll do both basic maintenance and also install aftermarket parts (coilovers, exhaust, turbo, etc.).

If you can't afford to rebuild yours for that amount of money, which is what the rebuilds usually run for, try contacting Paul @ Mazmart ( Mazmart is his username here) for a rebuilt one. Charles R. Hill and BHR rule as well :)
The only problem would be shipping your core back :)

The way Rick at Mazmart and the manner in which I perform my rebuilds are vastly different than the way simple engine remanufacturers perform theirs. As such, our engines typically perform better over a longer period of time.

so far the cheapest option has been the dealer...go figure...
$2081 for a re-manufactured engine...with me doing the install...

If that imprersses you, Hector, try Rotary Resurrection (Kevin).

LOL No, but I talked to tony a couple of weeks ago and a rebuild would be a bit more than the cost a reman, even though I think Lucky 7 is awesome and well worth the cost of the rebuild....I just need my car to be somewhat reliable for school nothing crazy like they build.

Wasn't impressed, just surprised...LOL
Thank you, I'll PM him in a bit.

I would have rebuilt it myself with you taking care of the rotors for me but it looks like I'm going to be doing the summer pre-law program earlier than expected...so yeah I just need to make sure I don't get stuck somewhere on freeway.

I meant "impressed" in the literal sense, as in having made an impression on you (like being surprised). ;)

I bought a reman from dealership, should be here in a week...hopefully.
While searching for a block on line, i found 2 dealerships in WA and OK that carry part# N3H3-02-200R-V0 which is the remain for $1,800 and $1,600 respectably...too bad they didn't ship out =(

If I remember correctly, I going to need to replace some external gaskets on the block, does any know where can find a reasonably priced gasket kit for just the external pieces such as the water pump, etc, all the ones I find are for the internals?

Thanks in advanced.

how much did you pay for reman.

yellow FE
05-22-2010, 10:31 AM
List price is $2001.00 from Mazda...but I called around locally and most dealers are charging way more than that so you have to bring them down.

I paid a little bit over 2100 with taxes.
