I am in South OC too and seeing another RX-8 wa a rarity but now I see 4-5 everyday. Exclusivity was nice but I knew it wasn't gonna last forever.

Not exactly OC, but this afternoon around 4:20 I passed (yes, passed!) a Velocity red w/ tinted windows and rotary accents southbound on the 57 -- you transitioned to either the 71 or the 10 and I stayed SB on 57. I did a double-triple take trying to see who you were, but your tint's too dark.

On my way to work yesterday I spotted a rx-8 in irvine going down alton. :) My cars in the shop getting some magnaflow exhaust on it so i pulled next to her in the rental... Talked to her for a few at the light. Black RX-8 all shiney and new, if i heard her right she was on her way to work... Mazda is what i heard ;) Her car was one day old, if your on here say hi ;)

I've noticed a lot more 8's in my are also. I consistanly see 1 red and 1 green 8 on Colorado blvd in Santa Monica each evening around 6:30-7 p.m.

I think a lot of people don't know the etiquette of greeting other 8 drivers on the road. I didn't until i started reading this thread a few months ago. So now i do try to make eye contact or wave, but i would say about 50% of the drivers will ignore it. But it is fun to make contact. We are like a little family with very cool cars!

I waved to a guy in a titanium 8 (with a bicycle on top!) a few weeks ago at Jamboree and Alton. Think i saw the same guy on the 405 south 2 days ago, but he would not look at me.

I will keep on waving, so wave back!

When I was actively driving my RX-7s around I would always be greeted by other FC's and FD's on the road, and occassionally get into conversations with old school rotorheads about R-100's and 2's and 3's and 4's and such. We all shared something in common: the love of sports cars, and rotaries in particular.

Sport bike riders always greet eachother with a wave or a nod or a peace sign or a fist in the air - even from opposite sides of the freeway at 100mph. Riders on choppers and such rarely greet the sport bike riders for some reason..

Nowadays, driving the 8, it's just not the same. What gives? :(

I always try to give love to my fellow rotorheads when i can. i think most owners of the 8 are new to the rotary world don't really know whether to giv a heads up or not.

Too many 8 drivers are new to the marque, to the rotary, to the whole sports car thing... take your pick. They're not hard core, they're not even mild enthusiasts. Your attempt (or mine) at camraderie is viewed as an intrusion into their space. "What? You like my car? Oh, yes. Me too. It's cute. Rotary power? What's that? Okay, you're starting to scare me. I don't like the look in your eyes. Are you a stalker?"

Bah. Go buy a Miata.

When I first got into sportscars, there was a hierarchy of how you acknowledged other sports car drivers on the road, based on what you were driving as compared to what the other person was driving. But you always, ALWAYS acknowledged the other driver.

Back then, sportscars were hard to own. And their drivers were a fraternity that being part of, enhanced the ownership experience. Hell, something had to make up for the astronomical parts and service prices, the wheezing heaters, Lucas electrics and laughable weather protection.

Ownership of a modern sportscar comes with no compromises or sacrfices at all. So while I'm not surprised that the old fraternity is a lot smaller, it's great to knowo that they still exist on islands like this particular community.

So basically, boothguy, you're lonely and want friends.

Parked next to a silver rx-8 today at 1.15 while i was eating at pasta pomodoro on alton in oak creek plaza.

Rode next to a brand new base sun silver today with reflective tint windows. I honked and waved but couldn't tell if the driver acknowledged.

Winning Blue merged from the 73 to the 55 N at around 6:00 PM. Waves exchanged. First Winning Blue I've seen on the road.

Yes it had the yellow zoom-zoom and think there was more writing somewhere else on the car as well, I not sure.

After driving manual for 8 years from Cerritos to Irvine to Los Angeles etc.. you'll see why AT isn't such a bad idea. Besides on the other thread.. your parent is paying a higher premium on your car because it's a stick. :P

My guess is that since Mazda North America's corporate offices are in Irvine, you're seeing a lot of Mazda employees driving them. Remember last fall when a number of people all over the country turned their RX-8s back in to Mazda because of the horsepower issue? Those returned cars were offered to Mazda employees at an apparently much-reduced price.

A Mazda RX-8 in Irvine is considered an average car... if you head further into OC, you see all the SL500s, Ferraris, Porsche 911s, etc etc.. it really is that crazy sometimes. Just visit Fashion Island during a weekday afternoon, and you'll see all these rich Milfs shopping around putting their purchases in their benzs..etc.

Funny but true. I used to live in Newport Beach on the Peninsula. It's amazing when you can pull up to a stop light and every car around you (literally) is either a Benz, BMW, Porsche, etc. Unreal.

I don't know about how other parts of the country are, but a Benz/BMW 330i or better is like the "average" car in the OC. The Standard of living there is pretty much like how the TV show sees it... rich white folks. Not that it's bad or anything, it's just how it is. Especially in Newport, Laguna Nigel, etc.

I saw the Enzo driving on PCH near Newport... near that fancy Euro auto place that sells the expensive cars.

If you want to see lots of random fixed up cars.. go to Alhambra... Garfield/Valley blvd area... or Focus on Friday/Saturday... or head to the Hacienda Hts. area shopping centers. Tons of fixed up this, and fixed up that. Every kid and their moms has a suped up cars.

Guess I'll have to drive my car to South Central to stand out eventually... Weessssiiidde..

I go to Whitney high school gary. We used to play western alot in waterpolo. I also had a lot of waterpolo tournaments there during the summer.

Hey Zoom2x I was one of those red 8 at the Century Theatre on Katella in Orange last Friday at the noon showing. I was watching TROY too.

To Outlaws eXtreme I know what you're talking about I live in costa mesa and I always see BENZ and some ferrari's and maserati's especially, I actually raced a couple of them w my DSM though.

It took a while, but now I'm starting to see RX-8's on a fairly regular basis -- not every day, but at least a couple sightings a week, and some very close to home.

I've seen a black one w/spoiler & black/red interior (don't remember if it had the rest of the appearance package) parked at the Regal 22 Cinemas in Foothill Ranch, a black one w/spoiler (maybe the same one?) parked near Lowe's in Rancho Santa Margarita, and a red one driving around RSM a couple of times.

Do those belong to anyone here? :)

Yesterday saw a yellow rx-8 at gelsons market in irvine, parked in same land as me a few cars down. this morning on jamboree a gave a thumbs up to a yellow rx-8 and he waved.

Saw a brand new tit grey 8 in cerritos on 183rd getting on the 91west at around 2:30pm on monday. It was purchased at Browning mazda with rotary accents and the guy was smoking. Anyone here? i tried to wave hi but you sped off

Ive seen a lot of rx-8s lately and haven't posted. Like last night at the irvine spectrum i parked right next to a new black rx-8. He had it right, out of the whole empty parking lot it was parked in the back all alone ;)

Well a few nights ago I was on my way to Mission Viejo from Irvine and were driving and my girlie says hey look theres a white rx-8. I say, nah it cant be white... show cars, ect. We get closer and right behind it, yup its white. Its the JadaToys show car that we all have seen in the pictures. Decal work and all done to the car, we wave to each other then i get out of the lane and go to my destination.

I saw two blue RX-8s over the weekend which is a rarity for me since I usually see black, titanium, silver, and red ones. One was parked near Old Navy in Foothill Ranch on Sunday, and the other one was going North on the the 405 near Jamboree on Saturday. The one on the 405 pulled up next to me and we smiled at each other. Woohoo! -- my first contact with a fellow RX-8 owner on the road! :)

If that had been Friday night it could've been me at the Spectrum -- I always try to park far away from everyone. It's kind of a drag sometimes making the long trek out to the car, but I'm still paranoid about door dings, and besides, I get to admire my car while I'm walking towards it.:D hee-hee! ;)

In Cerritos, I know I'm the only one so far that is silver, I was out and about Tuesday around 10am... could be me. Saw a Black one at that time.

So far, 2 Reds, 3 Blacks, 1 Titanium, 1 Silver in Cerritos that I know of.

Hi LoPo. I'm sure it was my 8 you saw. I work in the University Research Park, and I'm pretty darn sure I have the only yellow 8 in the center (since October '03). Sounds like me too... leaving work too slow to catch up to you... cause I don't put much load on the engine until it warms up (which is never right when I leave work).

I didn't even know there was an OC sighting thread... all the RX-8's seem to be here in the Irvine area, but I've only spotted about 5 in the past 5 months!

I give a thumbs up to all the RX-8's I can, though I don't have a history with rotary. I love sports cars though.

The ones I see never like to acknowledge another 8. You can tell they are actually annoyed by seeing another 8 close to them, I guess it is the loss of exclusivity or something.

Anyway, mine is red, all stock, no strakres, no appearance package, no wing, no vanity plates...... and yes I always like to wave to other 8 owners.

I'm pretty sure if the person reads this message forum, they will wave or something... All the 7s I've encountered have acknowledged... but about 3/4 of the 8s acknowledge back. Guess the regular joe schmoe person that doesn't read the forums wouldn't know why the heck we're waving back.

I didn't even find the forums for a while but a cute girl drove across an intersection while I was stopped at a red light at the front of the line and honker her horn, smiled and waved. I figured then and there that RX-8 owners automatically get a sweet car and kinship. =)

Second time Ive seen Black RX-8 parked in front circle valet at irvine spectrum in the evening.

I keep seeing a black 8 on the 55N around chapman, but he never looks at me back (hmm maybe its my shaved head)

Saw a silver, new with REV on the plates, base model in Cerritos... followed behind me a bit. Not sure what REV means, didn't look like a dealership though.

how come i never see any 8's around ventura, oxnard, or thousand oaks? I've only seen two. One was in Oxnard parked by quizno's and the other i saw about a day or two ago on the 101 around thousand oaks going towards ventura.

Hey Konig, I took my RX8 to Oxnard to visit my parents at College Estates last weekend. I saw no 8's around also and it was pretty weird driving down Rose Ave. near Colonia hehe. Anyways, Oxnard is my home town. Channel Islands HS Raiders!!!

Maybe it's the people that live in Cerritos. A 25k-30k car fits right in the mold of Cerritos residents. It's not that unresonable to see RX-8s in the HS here in Cerritos because of graduation presents and such. Also some parents buying them for their kids in Cerritos.

So Wednesday 6/30/04 going home on the 5 South near El Toro Y and I have a silver automatic on my right and a black on the left. Looked like an RX-8 parade for the 4th of July.

As usual I tried to make eye contact to greet and neither wanted to be acknowledged.

Ya know, I don't think many of the newer owners of the RX-8 knows about the RX-8 club, or the fact that it would be nice to acknowledge each other. I'm sometimes hesitant to wave or something because I'm not sure if they even know this board or not... <That's why the sticker is key here...>

Being on this forum has little to do with greeting fellow RX-8 drivers on the road, it is just common courteousy. I sense that people (specially South OC) like exclusivity and when they see another one like theirs they just don't like it.

Anyway, my feelings weren't hurt or anything.

I love it when I see another 8, sadly I just haven't seen any since I got one.

What area? Yellow seems to be more common than I'd like to be here in OC. I saw another one parked 1 street down in my neighborhood! =( I wanted to be one of the only yellow ones in my general area.

Anyhow mine is yellow. Look for anhichiban license plate. =)

What I mean is.. do you see people driving Civics waving to each other? Or G35 drivers waving back to each other? Let alone 350z drivers? If people came to this board, or the So Cal RX Club board, etc etc.. they might know we are acknowledging each other..etc etc. To a new buyer of an RX.. that has no history of any RX.. they wouldn't know why we were even waving at them.

Can you imagine ALL the Honda Accord drivers waving to each other in So Cal? They would have to amputate their arms afterwards.

If you were wondering what I was doing, I was paying my stupid speeding ticket (#3) so far. Frickin got nailed by the CHP, which sucks big time.. wrote me up for no front plate and tint. Btw, that front plate in your front window will mean very little to the CHP, they will still write you up for no front plate. So having it there doesn't matter. I learned that first hand back when I had my Civic. ACK!

I try to smile and wave to everyone funny thing is I dont remember a red rx-8 today but I saw one for sure maybe I dont remember colors, I remember a rx-7 was a minute in front of the rx-8 :) I was going drop off my mail at the post office. Maybe it was or wasnt me but I saw a RX-8 driving, and a silver was at the post office too but I didnt talk to him, no time and people get pissed when I walk in with tons of mail and dont wait in line ;)

I saw a Titanium '8 with appearance package, strakes, clear corners, and a wierd yellow sticker thingy on the C pillar on the 5fwy South bound from south OC all the way into Oceanside.

My wife, daughter, and I were in my yellow stock-mobile. Got the nod from the other driver (who's passenger was down for the count sleeping :)).

Last night I followed a yellow 8 on the 5 fwy north from about Jamboree to the 91 frwy, the guy had aftermarket mirrors with blue turn signals in them like the previous gen. Ford Expedition mirrors. TOTALLY COOL!

that was me on the freeway. it was great seeing what the car looks like at night from different angles. i also like the way you used your flashers as i was switching freeways great way to say hi/bye will do the same next time. the mirror flashers were bought from ebay, pretty easy to install. they have lots of different ones listed, just have to make sure they are the 2" not the 4"

Welp I've seen a few of RX-8s one was at venture and pacifica i saw while getting my toll thing from the toll roads, a red one.

Yesterday I saw a girl in a red rx-8 she had rx-8 club decals on her car. ;) She thought I was trying to take her spot later while she was walken she realized I had an 8 too and we laughed.

In the parking garage of the spectrum there was a rx-8 too the guy nodded I tried to nod but was on the phone so not sure if he got it. Both of this on the same day,

The days of casual greetings from other RX-8s are diminishing I would say... out of all the 8s I've drove next to, I've only been acknowledged once. All the rest gave me that special mentols look... "Huh? What are you looking at?" Perhaps it's because they are new owners.. not sure. I can tell by their license plate numbers that they are relatively new...

i also saw a tit grey rx8 today on christmas eve at Irvine specturm driving on gateway while i was valeting cars :D it was a pretty young asian girl... probably chinese or filipino. Anyone here?

Saw a White RX-8 at Sam Woo last night on South Street... first one I've ever seen that wasn't on a dealership. No plates.

Spotted Sunlight Silver RX8 with license plate "SexyRX8" (or something), going down 405 South in Fountain Valley/Huntington Beach area, Wednesday (12/29), around 2:45pm. If its you, I was the Red 8 w/ CF hood behind you. I waved, but didn't know if you saw me or not. I followed you for about a minute, but couldn't pull up next to you because traffic was pretty heavy. I had to pull off on Brookhurst because I was late for an appointment, otherwise I would of kept up with you =)
