blankenship 01-28-2004, 12:09 PM Hi,
I'm look for a model RX8 kit that I can build myself. I've checked a bunch of hobby stores, but haven't been able to find anything. If you know a place where i can purhcase on online or in the new york city area please let me know.
THANKS!!
Velocity-8 01-28-2004, 12:17 PM Fujimi makes a 1/24 scale kit. Do a google search for "Fujimi 1/24 Mazda RX8 " and you will get a lot of places you can buy them online.
Rotary Nut 01-28-2004, 03:17 PM Yeah and it 's a POS. I couldn't believe I wasted my money on it. I may even try to get some pics up of it to show you later today!
The interior looks NOTHING like the real thing. The body and wheels look pretty good. I hear tell that Tamiya is going to be doing one by the end of the year!
Lets join our hands in prayer! ;)
blankenship 01-28-2004, 04:16 PM That would be great if you can get some pics up. I just want something to keep me busy when I'm bored, and I'm obsessed with the RX8.
Thanks!
blankenship 01-28-2004, 04:18 PM Do you build this yourself or does it come pre assembled.? I can't tell from any of the websites.
Rotary Nut 01-28-2004, 05:08 PM it is a 1/24th scale plastic kit. Yes you must assemble it yoursellf. It includes interior (if thats what you can call it) a one piece plate for the chassis and NO ENGINE. This is what is refered to a "curb side" model.
my little rx-8 keychain looks exactly like a real one. Even has a little shift knob in the interior ^_^

I believe the Type-S Aero model (from Fujimi) is coming out soon.
I have the RX-8 Type-S kit myself. There isn't much detail on the kit. In general, Fujimi kits are good for modifications.
Someone in Taiwan has been doing a RE Amemiya conversion to the basic RX-8 kit.

My own plan is to do the R-Magic conversion. However, I would wait till I got that kit on my real car first. :)
blankenship 01-29-2004, 04:00 PM where do you get the parts to make the modifications. for example...if I wanted to build the mazdaspees version, how would I go about doing that?
six_shooter 01-29-2004, 05:05 PM I finally got mine...
six_shooter 01-29-2004, 05:09 PM Let try this again
six_shooter 01-29-2004, 05:10 PM That's better, here my small RX-8
six_shooter 01-29-2004, 05:10 PM Shown with my big RX-8
six_shooter 01-29-2004, 05:13 PM Getting the color match, was really important in building the small RX-8, Looks like I got it pretty close, I'm satisfied.

that looks super sweet. but why do you have that plastic piece attached near the sun roof on your rx8? What's its purpose?
Rotary Nut 01-29-2004, 05:48 PM I hope to get pics done in the next day or so. Sorry about any delay but I have been busy.
six_shooter 01-29-2004, 05:52 PM That plastic strip is the wind deflector option on the RX-8. The car came with it.

It is a fairly tedious process when it comes to modification.
In general, you need plastic sheets (available from most hobby / art stores) and Epoxy Putty. Tamiya has an epoxy putty that is pretty good for such kind of modification. It comes with two strips (one white and one tan). You mix them up, wet the mixture with water, and start your creation.
I am still pretty new to modification myself. So far I have only done the RE Amemiya headlight conversion to a RX-7 Kit.
