If you haven't heard about Mazda Rev-It Up in Boston, MA on Saturday 5/22/04 (www.mazdarevitup.com) you really should check it out. This year they are providing an autocross course and a handful of Mazda3s to flog.

This should be a fun event for everyone from the newbie to the diehard weekend racer. For $40 you get classroom instruction and a seasoned instructor riding shotgun who tells you the best way to navigate the course. And if you think you are the best of the best you can find out for sure. All of the laps are timed and the fastest drivers will be entered into a final competition at Leguna Seca where the winner will drive away with a new Mazda3. How cool is that? :D

So if this sounds like fun, sign up soon because space is limited. Mazda Rev-It Up in Boston, MA on Saturday 5/22/04

If one day is not enough you can join us for a Fun Run Around the Cape on Sunday 5/23/04. Following the RIU meet, all interested parties will be cruising out towards Cape Cod and spending the night at a hotel/campground yet to be determined. Then we will spend the Sunday cruising around the cape to our hearts' content.

The following weekend on 5/30/04 we will be meeting at Limerock Park, CT - Speed World Challenge Racing Series, Mazda Extremestreet car show. Anyone interested in entering the show will be welcomed to do so under the banner of our NewEngland Mazda community (yet to be named). This will make for excellent mazda representation at the show, another great meet, and enough mazdas (some miatas some rx7s some proteges etc) to really represent well.

Please post any questions here or PM joe (teamafx) or e-mail Chris at protegeclub@hotmail.com with suggestions/input or if you want to help organize the event or anything at all

Lets start a sign-up list....
No obligation obviously, just add your name if you are interested and plan on attending if at all possible...

No, you will not be able to use your car as the event is aimed at showing off Mazda's current line up. The main driving events will use a Mazda3 but you can also test drive any of the other current Mazdas on a separate track.

Kevin,

The Cape fun run will be separate from the Rev It Up event. So don't sign up for both days of the event if you plan on doing the run. ;)

Is anyone keeping a list of the Miata folks that are signed up for the event?

you have to be 18 to race at RIU, but not to come join us at our meet or for our 23rd cruise :)

some of the NEPOC members arent 18 yet so they cant race either

It definatly sounds like fun.. I would have loved to run my 7.. but oh well. I guess when you say "current Mazda models" that means i would be able to take an RX-8 out right!!?? :)

Speed Racer
01-29-2004, 11:25 PM
Yeah, it would be fun to compete my RX-8 against their Mazda3 but that is not going to happen on that weekend. We can always plan another meet at an autox at some other point during the summer.

So what do you say? Are you going to come to the event and show us all how quick you are around the course. ;)

our official sign up thread only has 7 ppl in it so far (all 7 are also planning on participating in the sunday cape cod cruise) however I know we have more people that have already registered for the event on Sat that just havent hopped into our sign up thread yet (it is a long ways off) and I am expecting around 20 cars from NEPOC and wouldnt be surprised if we got a few more

The 6 community are all signing up for the event but no one seems to be interested in joining up with all the other mazda models for our meet, and I still havent heard from anyone from rx7club.com

Kevin, did you get my e-mail about all this?

Now is really the crunch time I think so that we can get as many people from as many different models onboard as possible so that in mid-feb when I submit the application for mazda sponsorship for the event (I think the due date is the 22nd right?) we can have the largest number of people we anticipate coming to get the best support possible....

Chris,
Do you know how many people we need to have signed up before Mazda will even consider sponsoring us?

slug420
01-31-2004, 02:09 AM
you can check with Kevin for the details as he is the one who brought this opportunity to my attention.

As I understand it, you can have 15 cars getting together for a meet andmazda might "sponsor" it by giving the organizers money to buy food for the meet, i dont know, maybe they give us flyers and whatever to pass out at the meet.

but clearly, the more people you have at the meet, the more high profile it becomes, and the more pleased mazda will be to support it. Additionally, and this is totally a guess, I am imagining that if we can put together some numbers upwards of 50 cars at the meet, at this event that is already promoting Mazdas, Mazda would relish the opportunity to show off how enthusiastic its owners are and how much we love our cars by really embracing the meet at RIU.

Similarly, I have just found out that the following weekend, Mazda ExtremeStreet (mazda sponsored car show) will be at Limerock Park in CT on the same day as the tripoint mazda protege races in some SCCA World Speed Challenge races. I would love nothing more than to take all the energy and interest that we are generating for this RIU event and try to continue it the following weekend at Limerock.

I personally am hoping to enter my car in the show and i would love it if our new england mazda community could really represent as I feel this car show offers the same opportunity for mazda to showcase its dedicated owners as RIU does the previous weekend.....

:)

Hey all:

I am not sure there is a specific number of vehicles that need attend an event for possible sponsorship. Although I do know the event has to be somewhat organized. The M'sters have applied for sponsorship before in the past and received it for our annual Fall Foliage Run --Roy can comment on that :)

As far as sponsorship for the RIU event, since it is already put on by Mazda, I'm not sure they will put more money into it for sponsorship. The event at Lime Rock on Memorial Day .Miata's at Lime Rock (http://roadster-chat.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000038) has been an organized event for the last 5 years. The Nutmeg Miata Club of CT has done an excellent job to make this a great event for fellow Miata enthusiasts. I have been talking to the organizer this year and he has opened it up to an all Mazda event. I suggested he try applying for sponsorship as this will turn out to be a big event with people from all over New England in attendance.

Getting back to possible sponsorship for the RUI event, we can try to see if Mazda will sponsor it. Since the event is already using Mazda dollars, I'm not sure they'd be will to put more money out on the line (then again I could be totally wrong). Chris, get a quick count of people interested and submit the form to Mazda and see what happens.

Thanks,
Kevin

PS Chris yes I did get your email but have been swamped lately, sorry for not getting back to you

Last Fall Kevin was nice enough to let me tag along with M'sters on their Fall Run through the White Mountains. There was about 70 Miatas and 2 RX-8s at the event and I felt like Gulliver in the land of the Liliputans. :p

Seriously though, the M'sters did an awesome job of organizing an all day drive through the mountains. We stopped at one of the Mountain resorts for lunch. They served a full spread and Mazda picked up the tab for 100+ people!

As far as the RIU goes, it would be nice if Mazda would at least recognize their enthusiasts by giving us a place to group all of our cars together and maybe picking up lunch for everybody.

We are looking for Mazdas to be in our enthusiast tent on the Sat and Sun that REV IT UP is in your area (you do not have to do both days...one or the other is fine). Your show car will be there from 6:30 am to 6. Any owner displaying their car for a day will get a comp pass for one day at Rev It Up. The tent can hold only 3 cars and we want one rotary (RX 7 or 8), one Miata and one Protege (or 3) or a 6 as well....so please let me know soon if you would like to display your car.

Also while you are at Rev it Up come by the enthusiasts tent . You are welcome to bring information about your local club as well.

You can meet the folks from Mazdasport Magazine and from Driving Sports Magazine....and share your story ides!

If you want to include your car as a show car please email me direct at

At one of the events there will be a pristine RX 8 in the tent next to a Miata with 208,000 miles on it (NO Kidding!). So it is not how tricked out your car is..it is because, as enthusiasts, we are a special breed. The tent is for enthusiasts and it is being sponsored by Mazda, Mazdasport Mag and Driving Sports Mag. Local clubs are invited to come and hang out there with each other and pass on club info to newbies. You will meet Sarah from Mazdasport (AKA Surf Goddess...really she is a model in another car magazine NO NOT THAT kind of model). She is a car nut, races and will help you guys get a fast pass for the ride and drive line (if you get out of bed early enough!)....Mazdasport will work with the regional rep from the Mazda advisory council and local clubs to get the word out and we are asking Mazda to allow us club corrals in the parking area (not inside because you would not be able to come and go once parked). Don't think we will get the food thing through as it is independant vendors in every location (on some tracks or bases you must use their caterers and they are gosh awful expensive)...better to gather and pack your own sodas and stuff and then convoy on out to a local watering hole. I wish I could be at all locations but you folks will love Sarah. Plus I need a host family in each city who would consider picking her up on Friday at the airport and housing her (driving her to REV IT UP). At 21 we are concerned for her safety staying at strange hotels all over so I thought friends from the local clubs would pitch in. Barb

Another reason to come to Mazda RevItUP!!

Mazda is handing out $250 certificates at the event which you can use on purchase or lease of a new/unused 2004 or 2005 Mazda. This is a cash incentive that can be used with other incentive probrams/rebates.

The offer is transferable but the ORIGINAL certificate must be presented and turned in at time of purchase.

Apparently this program was in effect for last year's event, too. The certificate was probably in the goody bag they handed out for doing the survey.

Thanks to Brown's Mazda for alerting me to this incentive program.

K guys, I went out on the cape today, figured out some hotel/motel plans and have a pretty solid plan for the cruise itself.

I have updated the following thread with hotel information. (easiest to have one source of the info so I dont forget to update it in one place)

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48967&page=1&pp=15

Basically we are looking to stay at a couple small mom and pop motels right on the cape cod canal. We will drive down there after RevItUp and then spend the night hangin out and doin whatever it we feel like =D

You need ot make reservations asap because its coming up quick, and also there is a fishing derby in town that weekend so the very limited quantity of rooms at these places might fill up quick.

EVerthing sounds good, and I can't wait. Is there going to be a meeting point on Saturday right before RIU? Are we going to go together or are we just going to meet each other at the event?

slug420
05-20-2004, 02:50 AM
I spoke with RIU organizers and they said it would be too much of a production or whatever for them to set aside a lot of a section of the lot for us ot have our meet, so I am planning on going up and arriving around 10AM and hopefully finding an empty section of the lot where we can all line our cars up. Those who are there earlier for the event can just move their cars to our little section when they get a chance, and everyone who arrives after that can park over in our little area.

I havent posted a whole lot of detail but there ARE plans for Sunday.

I went out to the cape a few seperate days to scout the roads and the area. The plan in is pretty simple, just to cruise 28 along the southern coast of the cape stopping anywhere that looks like a good place to stop for a minute to stretch the ole legs, again for some seafood for a late lunch, and possibly again for some mini golf at a kickass place I know of on the way out. We will then continue on to Provincetown(on the tip) where we can all park together take some shots and maybe check out the town before heading back in and splitting up.

Other options are 6a along the northen coast which is less populated, no real scenic spots just a nice country drive kinda thing so some people could cruise back in together along that road.

At any rate, I will have a tenative plan put together when we go down to the motels on Sat night and all those spending the night can vote on what we want the final route to be for the day on Sunday. Its really not nearly as complicated as most cruises are because in essence there are only 3 roads on the whole Cape. 28 on the south coast, 6 in the middle and 6a on the north.

Just bring some 2-way radios if you have them and on Sunday we are going to meet in the parking lot across the street from the motels at 10AM and depart from there at 11AM (give some time for people driving in for just the cruise to show up)

If you are driving down to the motels from RIU we can all drive together to get there, but if you are planning on just meeting us there at the parking lot on sunday then let me know and I can post some directions to the lot if neccesary

lookin forward to this weekend, cant wait to check out all the rides! :)

There is room just outside of the main parking area that you guys should be able, after you comptete, to get together and get a group picture.

MRIU isn't in charge of the facility... so you can't hold parking against them. :)

And if I read this right... I should find the most RX-8's and park my Tahoe or Jeep in the middle of them all? :D

New England Region SCCA. :) http://www.ner.org and select "Solo-II"

They primarily run at Ft Devens in Ayer, MA.

Glad you guys had fun today... and to use Slvrblt erm... ReaperMans excuse... but with a twist... I would have been the learder if it weren't for the cone. ;) (Not that it would have mattered). :)

My best run: 29.8

It was damn cold out there, but we had a good time. My runs felt sloppy and I think I could've shaved off a sec with some practice... I hope to do some autocross this Summer.

We are meeting at the parking lot across the street from the hotel where everyone is staying. I'm gonna look up directions in the morning. PM or email me if you want to meet up in the morning and head down together. I will be leaving around 8:30.

30.572 and 29.189 -- Novice Class! I'd never done that before and man did I want a third try! That was a blast -- I never get to drive anything like I STOLE it and I sure as hell wouldn't drive anything I own that hard!

Burrrr. Freaking NE weather suks. I think my hands were frozen stiiff before I drove both times. They needed a heated tent somewhere. I wasn't very happy with my 31.948 best time, but fun anyway.

Those 3s felt alot more like my 8 in autox than the 6s did last year. Pretty impressive little cars. Wonder what the 'few mods' they did to them besides the tires?

Anyone notice the Black RX-8 along with the Ferrari and others at the front entrance advertising their driving school?

I'm pretty sure they said Borla exhausts and 'tuned suspensions'. At least I think I remember hearing that.

I thought those cars pushed something awful. The instructors at one practice session talked about oversteer. I don't think you could break the rear ends loose on those cars if you tried, which is why you didn't see any novices spinning out.

It was a blast watching people mowing down cones in the first turn/slolem and the second turn dive while waiting on practice course lines.

The one answer we never got is what the $@#% do they do with these cars when the year is up? Sell them as 'totally abused?'

One would hope they euthanize them, dissect them and use the results to improve the breed. Heaven forbid anyone actually gets to own of those poor critters!! :o

That's exactly what they do. They tear them down, look at the various parts for abuse... erm... wear and tear. :)

There was one guy yesterday when I was watching who did a Neutral Drop. My jaw dropped... and the Operating steward saw it too and afterward went over to the guy to have a quick little nice chat with the gentleman.

They need these cars for 4 more cities... stuff like that and they WILL break, as wouold almost any other car.

We saw one guy come out of the 1st turn slolems and upshift into PARK! That ratcheting noise is unmistakable! He came to a complete stop by turn two and then finally figured out what happened. Damn!

The instructors were talking about people hitting the rev limiters on the practice courses and that they'd take a practice punch away from you for doing it. I thought it was pretty funny figuring about 90% of the people in line were out there looking for a rev limiter to make sure they didn't hit it! :^)

Ooohhhh....

Another Photoshop Master!

You WISH you had a 906 -- very poor try though actually. It's funny, in all my leaderboard shots the board is blue on BOTH the left and right sides.

You must have taken this shot earlier in the day though, because I held the number 5 position by early afternoon...

Tink ... you have to settle down dude. Of course it's PS.

And ummm ... good job on that "number 5 position by early afternoon" rank. ;)

I checked- I rank about 64 of the 200+ pros- not too shabby- it's too bad I hit the cone for the last run- would have been close to the top 30

Hey, that's my excuse! :D I don't mind where I finished in Boston... gives Hazard a clean win.

Hey guys. I live right outside Boston in West Roxbury, and I'm trying to buy an RX-8. I've gone down to Mazda Gallery in Norwood and found some really good deals. DO you guys know any other good places to buy. Or do you know where I can get some work done to upgrade and supe it up once I buy it?
