How can you enjoy a a freakin awesome car when you are stuck behind an old lady that drives only 25 mph...you speeds past her in the other lane. How do you avoid embarrassment when she attempts to follow you home...drive else where. What is it with these crazy old folks!

I can't stand it when they'll purposely drive slow, just cause they know you want to go fast. They're so self righteous, thinking they're doing the world a favor by making people slow down, but in reality it just pisses people off more which causes them to drive faster and more recklessly cause they're in an agitated mood.

Left lane is for fast people, right lane for slow, learn your place! lol

My parents are both near 70 and yet drive better than majority of people on the roads. I like to use the phrase, same shit different pile. Same shit as in what I put up with, just different antics from different age groups.

When I see bad drivers on the road it's always a different pile based on age:

People from 16-24 when driving, drive recklessly and over their heads thinking they're invincible. People from 25-35 drive using ass-hat tactics when they don't get their way. People from 36-50 get way too distracted by what's going on outside of their own vehicle resulting in swerving acting like they're drunk hitting a mailbox or two. People 51-70 are the typical what I refer to as "yo-yo drivers" fluctuating up and down in speed. Lastly people 71-death vary from old age and slowing down enjoying the drive to can't see shit aka legally blind.

The op just had a bad driver likely from the 51-70 range.

It's not any one age of the driver that causes problems, it's the idiots at every age that cause problems.

From my drivers seat, there are more than sufficient idiots every time I venture out at every age group. Moms, teens, middle age and old ones, it's a plague of asshats.

I.e., just went to Lowes, and some qtip came at me head on - wrong way on down the entrace ramp - then tried to veer around me and keep going (to try a head on with the next smuck) until I stopped her and said "Go back!!!!" Sheeesh.

Cops must get tired and not write up the stupid idiots, just concentrate on the true asshat idiots, and even then it can't be more than about 2% of their infractions.

There needs to be a common sense test in place for certain things like driving, having kids, etc. It won't ever happen, but it should would help out a bunch.

I think the new system should only allow children above the age of 35 to have a license and have to turn it in at age 45.

What makes you the judge for determining the reason people drive the speed limit and not at some insane speed you wish to go........................................Take a chill pill and live longer and maybe not have another accident.....or cause one. I have a feeling Obama may change your driving habits.

Left lane is for fast people, right lane for slow, learn your place! lol
I think you need to find that statement in the traffic laws........It will normally read the the far left lane is for overtaking and/or passing. There is not really a fast lane or a slow lane except in States that force trucking to the extreme right and mandate a slower speed for them.

Some of the worst drivers I have see are young girls and teen age boys but really I don't advocate any deterrent to their massive accident count. At least the aged are not causing as many accidents.

People should be tested every couple years and the testing should be more involved. I don't know about you other guys, but in Georgia all I had to do was stop at a stop sign, speed up to 35 mph and make a controlled stop and parallel park...what the fuck kind of test is that!? It is only due to my own efforts that I feel like a decent driver...and I personally don't feel like the majority of the nation makes the same efforts. Accidents are not caused by fast drivers, they are caused by fast idiots.

"Drivers in Germany must be at least 18 years old and fork over more than $1,000 to undergo 24 hours of rigorous private instruction, including training on the Autobahn, and pass a comprehensive written test before obtaining a license. Compare this to the U.S., with no required training and a minimum age of 16 in some states. Also, unlike in the U.S., Germans use the left lane only for passing. Roads over there are built better, too -- a 70-centimeter (27.5-inch) roadbed versus 28 centimeters (11 inches) in the U.S. -- and are better maintained. So are German cars made by BMW and Mercedes, which handle easier at high speeds and sustain less collision damage."

In trying to keep it short I left out a few words - In relation to amount of people driving and miles driven in any age group the 16 to 25 year old stand out the most and in that group female drivers are becoming the worst. Not looking for an argument just pointing out that us that are over the age of 55 are among the safest drivers.....now that is not saying that older peeps are the better drivers just safer. Some octogenarians mistakenly compensate for their lack of reaction time by going slower.......

Just having fun.....

I read that our current prez (and or his cronies) is pushing for a Federal drivers license. You would be taxed on miles driven, use of inter/intra state highways, age, class of vehicle used. They are looking at this because the gas tax will shortly be falling due to more efficient vehicles. No license before the age of 18, would have to pass a federally approved driving school, highway speeds will again be lowered to 55 for everyone, license cost is estimated at $1000.00 plus school, loose your license for one year for any infraction or accident. THIS IS JUST THE START.....

I'd be happy if states banned all cell-phone use from cars...period.

Actually, I'd be fine with removing stereos from cars too.

On my way to work yesterday and a civic was holding up the left lane for half a mile but there was no place to pass. When I finally did get around him...yep on the phone totally oblivious to what was going on around him.

Every single time I see a driver doing something stupid they are on the phone.

Hate it.

Okay let me guess, you're 35? or 36? and when you get to 45 you'll up your opinion on driving to the ages of 45 - 55.

To be honest, the most reckless and speedy drivers that I have seen, in my area, are the middle aged men. Mostly because, A.) they have lower insurance rates and don't worry about much and B. have the expensive fast cars Z4's and vettes

I was driving on rt. 83 once, and I was going about 70 and my dad (my own father!) comes flying up behind me, passes me and keeps going, at least 90 mph. In DC, most of the reckless drivers I see are indeed middle aged men or the younger generation (18 - 24) Yes, it's a trend, and yes, some people drive a little faster, but it's a growing process. There are phases of driving. Start off timid, get more comfortable, crazy comfortable, accident, lesson learned, driving more safely.

and please don't take a tone with me. I was expressing an opinion, how I feel when I'm following someone going 28 mph in a 30 mph zone. Driving is one of the few exciting actions I get in life, it lets me taste some freedom, and when someone is impeding my action of freedom, it's not very liberating.

Tubing, obviously the statistics for crash ratings are going to be higher for the older range since the baby boom generation is getting older. It spikes more for time periods where we have a higher population when we have a better economic standpoint. More people in that age range, more likely to get someone from that generation in an accident.

I solved this "lack of freedom" by taking it to the track for some intense HPDE time. You'd be amazed what a day of unbridled freedom to go as fast as you possibly can will do for your state of mind. Better, on the way home, you've no inclination to be bothered by almost anyone! ;)

There is more to this story...

So were you being a bumper buddy when she was going 25 mph or were you in a school zone?

If she was slowing down she may have been trying to tell you you were too close or she was trying to let you pass. to get rid of you, or worse she was trying to challenge you. Or did you make her that angry?

She tried to follow you home? Had you made her that ticked off? Or did she want to race? What was she driving?

What speed were you going when she followed you?

I wasn't being a bumper buddy until like 3 seconds before I past her so as to see if she would speed up....which she didn't. I think she was pissed that I passed her because I looked at her and shrugged and mouthed "wtf". The speed limit was 40 and she was going 23-27 mph. I honestly didnt think it was that big of a deal until she tried following me home, the I was like wow this old person must be pretty pissed. It was a Honda accord so not a problem to get away from her

By far, the biggest driving problem these days involves distracted drivers. In that group, the main distraction involves a cell phone. I've always taken advantage of "Driver Improvement" courses. It never ceases to astound me how many inadequate drivers I encounter EVERY TIME I get out there. Perhaps some sort of driver awareness improvement training should be mandated for every one that wants to get out there and threaten my life by driving distracted.

Or, I should drive a Sherman tank.:scared:
