View Full Version : Free Touch Up Paint from Mazda!
justkn 01-27-2004, 08:39 PM I just received a thank you letter from Mazda for the purchase of my "8" and it had a free bottle of touch up paint in the bag too!...Those guys are big spenders! Wish I had known so I would not have already bought one...lol
ranger4277 01-27-2004, 08:56 PM I got that yesterday in the mail too.. but xmas was last month.
:)
w2aew 01-27-2004, 10:08 PM Yep, got mine last week. I too had just purchased some from the dealer (for $7, ouch!). I got it in a neat steering wheel shaped "box". The box makes a decent little stand for my 1:18 model.
yah, the box was cool, but it met the trash. i dunno if having the bottle is bad luck or not.. we'll see =p
i3man 01-27-2004, 10:16 PM Must be some kind of mass mailing because I got mine yesterday too. That cute little steering wheel box was a nice touch.
titaniumgrey 01-27-2004, 10:22 PM yep got mine for a while too , selling it on ebay tho lol , don't need it :)
RX_999 01-27-2004, 10:38 PM My girlfriend used it as nail polish.......they sent red and mine is green!!!!
RX-GR8 01-27-2004, 10:52 PM didnt get the steering wheel box just the paint in a big envelope.
Pre-ordered last May, and I have yet to recieve any touch up paint in a wheel box or not. I have this feeling that Mazda doesn't love me.
Kaliken 01-28-2004, 12:14 AM got mine just a couple days ago as well!
hope this doesn't foreshadow something..
l_doggy 01-28-2004, 08:42 AM I got my touch up paint in a fancy black plastic container 5 months ago. It's a good thing because I've already had to use it due to a big ding from an unknown source on the front left fender.
I thought my dealer had it sent to me and not Mazda, but I could be wrong. My impression is that they were advertising their parts department where you can buy stuff like paint, filters, etc.
pp13bnos 01-28-2004, 09:00 AM Yeah, seems like it was the dealer. But I received mine yesterday too. Even the right color. :) I guess this will be a project for this weekend.

You know it's worth all of about $2.50, right?
Not sure if that's exactly ebay worthy...
Peakster 01-28-2004, 12:26 PM Got mine yesterday, but no cool box. Just wrapped up in bubble wrap in a big white envelope.

I think they send the paint if you answer the survey, but not sure.
thered1996 01-28-2004, 05:08 PM Got mine sometime before Christmas. They got the color right.
On the subject of surveys, I certainly have gotten a pile of them. To date, I've received 4 from independant companies and one from Mazda. Naturally I answer very positively...especially on questions regarding handling and satisfaction.
ozzie8 01-29-2004, 06:58 AM I hope Mazda Australia will send Aussie RX 8 owners some touch up paint, I've got 2 stone chips already!
SikRedRX-8 01-29-2004, 10:19 AM I got mine two days ago.
MrWigggles 01-29-2004, 10:32 AM Haven't got any paint yet but I can tell you I definitely need it. I have so many micro-chips in the paint do to small pebbles etc it ain't funny.
The touch up paint works well - just make sure you shake it up really well, keep the bottle at a reasonably warm temperature before applying and use a very small artist brush not the one that comes with it.

SCiMMiA 01-29-2004, 10:49 AM Toothpick or bottom of matchstick work for me.
Katchoo 01-29-2004, 11:51 AM Wah!!! I didn't get one!
Darn...always left out of a good thing.
I am now grumpy...er, grumpier than normal. :(

I've been wingeing about this in I think now over five threads and for several months, and now I have to stop. They sent me the stupid touch-up paint. To be quite honest, I was hoping that they never would. I was hoping to be able to complain about this twenty years from now as I describe the total rebuild that I will be doing on the car.
As for the survey thing, well, they did send it after I returned the survey. I returned the survey the third week of October, and there are many others who got their paint before me who recieved their car long after me so I have no idea. I think that the real problem is that my dealer is quite small and it is of little import to MNAO.
So here I am the happy owner of a little bottle of yellow touch up paint. Yah.
Senseny 01-29-2004, 06:13 PM Got the paint, now I am waiting for that $2000 watch the first Germans that preordered recieved.
Yeah . . . if mazda were to give Americans that, Id' be ninety-nine and PUsHIN' UP THE DAISEYS before I'd ever see one.
There is no way that that watch was worth two grand. You serious? I mean I saw it, and was not that psyched about it, how's it worth 2g's? - H
LiquidChick 01-29-2004, 06:31 PM i also did the survey like a month ago...and recieved a thank you notice along with touch up paint today....
Sea Ray 01-29-2004, 06:41 PM My paint also came today, car purchased first part of Dec. I sent the survey in a few weeks ago.
timisw 01-29-2004, 09:17 PM I got two. One in the fancy wheel and the other in a plain padded envelope. I would rather had gotten the ECU flashed back to the EPA first test.
Senseny 01-30-2004, 12:21 AM Haze, If the maker (who I am not really familiar with--I know more Swiss watchmakers than German) was comparable to either Concord or Ebel, etc. the watch was probably worth it for its complications, movement and saphirre (sp) back, but as far as styling, that is up to you. I like to find expensive watches at bargain prices so 2K ain't cutting it. The other thing is spending that much money for a watch that you never have felt the weight and quality. I'd be hard pressed to do that.
Anyway, I expect the paint to be my first and last little gift from Mazda, other than the joy of driving two fun rotaries.

i got it in the plain padded enevlope too. maybe there is still hope i get the wheel some other time.
Positron 01-30-2004, 08:50 AM Hey, I had just about given up on getting the touch-up paint from MAZDA (since its been almost 4 months since I bought the car), but yesterday in the mail I got a thank you letter signed by both Mazda NA and the dealer I bought the car from with the touch-up paint! How 'bout that.
I did take them up on their suggestion to email Mazda NA customer service anytime with my comments, questions, or concerns and asked why I got no warning from the dealer about the OEM tires, the flooding issue, and the MPG issue. We'll see if they respond.

I pre-ordered so I got the Travel mug and the Thermos. It was funny because I had bought an almost identical (not red) thermos ten days before I got those in the mail. Oh well, there's planning.
You could be right about the watch. I just looked at a picture of it, and I really just can't see the reason for it, but I really don't know. I mean a $2,000 watch to me had better be able to go to the fridge, get me a beer and put my slippers on so I am absolutely the wrong person to ask. Most of my watches are ancient Hamilton pocket watches. Modernity ain't my thang.
I have a feeling that the touch-up paint is the last love that I too will be feeling from Mazda. Oh well, that's what I have a girlfriend for.
Have a good one - H
Katchoo 01-30-2004, 11:11 AM I bet I know why I didn't get the paint...I did the survey but attached a grumpy note to it explaining the poor performance of the dealership's vehicle prep folks (45 PSI cold per tire? Downright dangerous).
Anyway, I now expect a gallon can of purple exterior wall paint (latex) in the mail from my dealer with directions to apply it liberally to the hood with a 4" brush. Should look good!
I got mine two days ago - even though I gave some crappy ratings to the stealership.
Just got a second touch up paint today in a bag. That's two in one week. Probably all the love they'll send for awhile.
pp13bnos 01-31-2004, 10:42 AM Yeah, I just recieved anouther bottle too! Kinda crazy. CJ
RX-GR8 01-31-2004, 08:27 PM got a bottle of touch of paint last week in a bubble mailer today i got another bottle in the steering wheel case.
ranger4277 01-31-2004, 08:29 PM Yay!! I got a second one too! Would have been cooler if it were a second RX-8 instead.
got a free bottle for my mazda6s as well...
Positron 02-11-2004, 09:02 PM Yup, a week later and I got the 2nd bottle of touch up paint in the steering wheel box. Funny.
mm
So, did I. How many months after the guys who ordered in the same group as me? Well, I don't care. I'm just happy to have it. I need it to paint the holes that I have to drill in order to install the spare tire kit.
manok_adobo 02-12-2004, 12:11 AM I have 3 bottles of paint. One came with the car, second came in an envelope, and the third came in that steering wheel box. I think Mazda is trying to say we are going to have paint trouble :D. HOPE NOT!
