GO WINGS!
The Reverend 04-12-2010, 12:16 PM blegh all these teams suck! :p:
Feras 04-12-2010, 12:22 PM i'll be happy if the flyers beat the devils
hines5786 04-12-2010, 12:26 PM Lets go pens!!!!!!!!!
The Reverend 04-12-2010, 12:30 PM joking aside this seems like a favorable year for the Sharks to get past the first round, maybe round 2 if they can compete with Detroit who are on a roll right now. Blackhawks are too fragile imho and don't have the goaltending for a long playoff run. I'd like to see the Canucks in the finals from the West.
I don't get to see the East that often during the regular season, but when I have seen the Caps play they just score so damn much but I'm not impressed by their goaltending or defense. Mike Green gtfo :jerkit: I don't think I've seen the Devils play once this year :dunno:
rubberduckie 04-12-2010, 04:38 PM Getting excited to watch the Sens make a nice cup run....
Jedi54 04-12-2010, 04:44 PM go Devils!!!
they're playing the Flyers first round which they struggled with during the regular season but Marty Brodeur and the Devils are playing REALLY good hockey. I think it'll be them or the Capitals coming out of the East.
The Capitals are a SCORING FREAKING MACHINE but I'll take defense over offense any day of the week, especially in the playoffs.
I think the Penguins are in trouble, even though The Kid is a stud, they have a tendency to seriously struggle against the top teams in the east. 0-6 against NJ, and I think 0-4 against Washington.
As for the West:
Canucks won't get far, Luongo looks TERRIBLE since the Olympics. (can't control rebounds)
Blackhawks aren't that impressive and goaltending will hurt them.
I gotta go with the Sharks I guess but they do have a tendency to choke in the playoffs.
deadphoenix52 04-12-2010, 05:26 PM GO STARS!!! ah damnit.
i'm cheering for jersey. this would be the perfect end to brodeur's season
SideOfBacon 04-15-2010, 08:28 AM Wednesday results updated
all away teams but my wings win lastnight.
glad to see cindy crosby fall!

umm i wouldnt say that out loud...Chris "The Human Missile" Pronger has been deployed and he may hit you so hard you get a concussion or dislocate some vertebrae.
F*ck the devils, about f*cking time they submit to us and we repay the kindness they dealt to our beloved Lindros...go to hell new jersey.
also about f*cking time boucher got his fourth victory against the devils, that should of happened on three occasions ten years ago.
Yeah thats right im angry about winning and im angry about past failures...im trying to channel my inner pronger, as i imagine he's channeling in the locker room. killer instinct time, i think he'll bring it.

Jedi54 04-15-2010, 11:23 AM Marty Brodeur isn't done with you guys yet so you can bring all Pronger you want, it won't mean a thing.
The Reverend 04-15-2010, 11:30 AM Pronger cheats anyways! :p:
I should know (Ducks fan)
Feras 04-15-2010, 12:15 PM Marty Brodeur isn't done with you guys yet so you can bring all Pronger you want, it won't mean a thing.
maybe marty better work on stopping him from scoring then.
SideOfBacon 04-15-2010, 12:57 PM as a Wings fan. fk Pronger and his dirty antics during his Blues, Oilers, Duck, and Flyer years.
Jedi54 04-15-2010, 01:27 PM anyone else here not surprised to see the Sharks cough up game one?
what's up with those guys and the playoffs?
I know it's a long shot (Despite San Jose's recent history) but I'd love to see the #1 seed choke in the 1st round.
SideOfBacon 04-15-2010, 01:33 PM Wings were the team to do it in the 90s. go in with pres trophy and choke first round. lost to SJ in 7 in 94, following the back to back cups they lost to Coyotes and Blues in first rounds. SJ did it last year as a #2, and is trying to do it again this year as a #1.
Jedi54 04-15-2010, 01:36 PM I want to see Wings vs Devils or Blackhawks vs Devils
(never did understand why the Blackhawks were in the Western Conference :scratchhe )
The Reverend 04-15-2010, 01:39 PM Sharks were a 1 seed last year :) (I think they were presidents trophy winners?)
I'd like to see the Hawks or Canucks from the West. Hawks are going to have to unload much of their team in the offseason so this is their big chance
SideOfBacon 04-15-2010, 01:40 PM I want to see Wings vs Devils or Blackhawks vs Devils
(never did understand why the Blackhawks were in the Western Conference :scratchhe )
same thought goes for my wings. they dropped the puck lastnight at 10p... its been a loooooooooooong day. i know why ORIGINALLY because there were at most like 3-4 west coast teams "back in the day" and a lot of EC teams, so det, dal, chi, etc, all ended up in the WC. sucks on those westcoast roadtrip streaks.
SideOfBacon 04-15-2010, 01:44 PM Sharks were a 1 seed last year :) (I think they were presidents trophy winners?)

hrm... i thought my wings were in 1st, boston with pres trophy. but looked it up and you're right. boston finished 1 point behind sj and det was 5 points behind SJ. so only goes to prove my point on these huge #1 seed upsets in past years. dominating the regular season, doesn't necessarily mean you are a guarantee even for your conference championship.
deadphoenix52 04-15-2010, 03:08 PM i predicted every single game wrong last night. its a damn good thing i'm not into sports betting.

i went 3 for 4. only missed my red-wings...
had senators winning that game, but pitt winning in 6
have flyers knocking devils completely out of the playoffs in only 5
had avs winning that game, but SJ winning in 7
and my wings winning that game and entire series in 6.
lets see how tonight pans out
have capitals winning
have sabres winning
have canucks winning
sorry (predators/blackhawks arent until Friday night)
SideOfBacon 04-16-2010, 08:14 AM missed 1 pick again. so 5 for 7 in first 7 games.
mikeb 04-16-2010, 05:57 PM i have been getting killed on these
i had pitt, sj and wash
im betting CHI tonite
Killermurph 04-16-2010, 09:44 PM Going to Philly now, LET'S GO FLYERS!
Jedi54 04-17-2010, 11:20 AM Cav: HELL of a game last night for your Wings. Wasn't pretty but sure was fun as hell to watch.
in the 3rd period your bruisers really stepped it up. I thought those two teams were going to kill each other.
It was nice to see NJ get back to their winning ways, Parise really is a stud. Wasn't the prettiest win but we'll take it however we can get it, especially from the Flyers since they were such a pain in the ass to us all season long.
deadphoenix52 04-18-2010, 11:31 PM LOL @ sharks
boyle = fail
SideOfBacon 04-19-2010, 07:42 AM Cav: HELL of a game last night for your Wings. Wasn't pretty but sure was fun as hell to watch.

thanks for jinxing them for yesterday Jedi :p:
Feras 04-19-2010, 09:36 AM jersey is fading, flyers are a better team than a 7th seed. x'ed fingers on going 2 for 2 at home.
SideOfBacon 04-19-2010, 10:29 AM think Brodeur retires of Flyers knock them off in Rd1?
Feras 04-19-2010, 10:55 AM prolly not, i see him having a bad season next year and then hanging em up in the hall of fame the next possible day.
SideOfBacon 04-19-2010, 10:58 AM be interesting to see. turns 38 in 3 weeks.
Jedi54 04-19-2010, 12:08 PM you guys are crazy. Brodeur made some amazing saves yesterday.
he's got at least 2 years left, possibly 3.
His defense just needs to stop hanging him out to dry and try clearing out the crease every now and then.
and yes, day after he retires he should get the HOF invite.
stupid flyers. :cussing:
SideOfBacon 04-19-2010, 12:44 PM Brodeur was good Jedi, not saying he wasn't. only reason it was 3-2 L in OT versus 5-2 with no OT. but he is also 38 and flexibility in a goalie is a must. look on what note The Dominator went out on? riding the pine in detroit after being replaced by Ozzie and going on to win the cup. same with Turco, that cats gotta be getting close to OT, my how the retirements have started to affect the NHL I grew up on...
Jedi54 04-19-2010, 12:50 PM yeah, I remember the Dominator just not being the same anymore after he cracked the 4-0 mark and didn't he retire, take time off and come back? I think that really hurt him.
Marty is getting old and he's the last of the old-school Devils that I really loved watching (Claude Lemieux, Scott Stevens, etc) but I honestly think if he stays injury free he'll play 2 years, 3 max.
most wins + most shutouts this season, lets not forget that. ;)
I want to see him go out while still being one of the top goalies in the league so I hope he doesn't try to stick around TOO long but for now, there's no sense in talking retirement.
Jersey needs to do what got them to the playoffs and that is play better defense. :banghead:
SideOfBacon 04-19-2010, 01:38 PM detroit needs to do what they did to get them to the playoffs.. WIN. :p:
hottest team since olympic break with not a single regulation loss by the rookie Howard, 13-0-2 in 15 games. the 1 loss since olympic break in regulation was by Ozzie.
bobo201 04-22-2010, 01:34 AM i'm a devils fan...and i honestly don't think we're making out of this round...=[. i did NOT want to play the flyers due to the trouble they have given us this year...but no...everyone didn't want the rangers to make it ='[.
lets go Vancouver (if the devils don't make it of course).
Easy_E1 04-22-2010, 01:59 AM http://phoenix.fanster.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/coyoteslogo2004.gif
SideOfBacon 04-23-2010, 09:08 AM Brodeur and the Devils D U N.
Pitt/Ott took 3 OTs to determine winner. glad to see Senators get the W. at the very least push 7 games to wear on the Penguins.
Jedi54 04-23-2010, 11:51 AM :sadwavey:
Feras 04-23-2010, 12:03 PM sorry jedi, i think kovalchuk was a bad idea for the devs, next year im sure they'll make some changes.
Jedi54 04-23-2010, 12:17 PM yeah, Kovalchuk was an expensive gamble that didn't quite pay off like we thought.
I knew the Flyers had our number during the regular season and I hoped the Devils would learn from their first 6 games (which they lost 6) and step up to the challenge. Nope.
My hat is off to the Flyers though, they played a great series and deserved to advance into the 2nd round.
SideOfBacon 04-24-2010, 07:59 AM Howard has looked good last 2 games between the pipes. back to how he was playing after olympic break. hopefully my wings can wrap it up at home on Sunday.
Could be looking at a lot of game 7s this round. 5 series's are at 3-2, and chi/nash are at 2-2 in their series.
Capitals could be looking at an easy road to the finals, possibly matched up against the 8 seed, now the 7 seed and the 6 seed leads their series 3-2. If Boston beats the penguins or senators (pending their series result), Washington would not have to play anything higher than a 6 seed to reach SCF. granted, flyers are playing some great hockey right now.
SideOfBacon 04-25-2010, 08:25 AM 2 more series's close with Pittsburgh moving on with a 4-2 series victory, as well as San Jose also closing out in 6 games.
Eastern Conference matchups for conference semi-finals almost determined.
Western Conference has 2 possible series close out games getting underway today with Detroit and Vancouver both leading their series's 3-2.
deadphoenix52 04-25-2010, 07:23 PM huge win by phoenix that i never saw coming. they worked their asses off. looking forward to game 7.
SideOfBacon 04-26-2010, 07:20 AM wings beat themselves. cant get a goal on a 5-3, allowing a SH goal on their first PP of the game. terrible netminding by howard. we are just too old with too many miles on our legs. tank is about empty and if we even get through game 7 to move on, I do not see us beating San Jose. going to be a shortlived postseason which is not normal for me as a wings fan.
Canadiann 04-27-2010, 12:10 PM Habs anyone? forcing a game 7 off a unbelievable performance from Halak. 54 shots and only 1 goal that was in the last 5 minutes. So much for an easy sweep from the Caps... Game 7 right around the corner and hopefully their hard work pays off. Had a bad game 2 and 3 where they blew the lead but they are picking it up now and showing that they are a strong team not to be counted out.
Feras 04-27-2010, 12:12 PM lol we're one game away from a 4 6 7 8 eastern semis
im not complaining id love to play boston, and meet pittsburgh in the ECF
SideOfBacon 04-27-2010, 12:13 PM wings game 7 tonight. its coming down to the better netminder tonight. hopefully my boys can get it done in game 7, go wings!
caps v cans tomorrow tonight for the other 7 game series. halak looked AMAZING in net lastnight.
The Reverend 04-27-2010, 12:14 PM Jimmy has looked a little suspect the past couple games...Maybe the pressure is finally getting to him? Imagine being in a game 7 not on home ice.
Jedi54 04-27-2010, 12:16 PM if the Caps go down tonight, talk about a crazy start to the playoffs.
The underdogs are tearing up the Eastern Conference

young goalie who will have a great NHL career in the future, but I think you may just be right for this postseason. a different wings team than we are used to seeing...
SideOfBacon 04-28-2010, 06:55 AM well done hank and howard, well done.

Jedi54 04-29-2010, 01:54 AM holy shit this is one crazy off-season.
I'm glad I didn't have money on most of these 1st round match ups, I'd be a broke mofo.
SoundDsnr23 04-29-2010, 08:07 AM Annnnnnnnd the President's Trophy winner is out in the first round yet again. What a wacky Eastern Conference. The west kicks off round 2 tonight! San Jose - Detroit should be a very interesting series.
Feras 04-29-2010, 09:16 AM i knew the hockey gods were gonna punish me for wearing my lucky old recchi #8 jersey during each of the flyers wins. I didn't wear it game 2...they lost. Now we face recchi as part of the bruins, the hockey gods are punishing me for my hubris...do i wear my lucky jersey or do i not?
SideOfBacon 04-29-2010, 11:05 AM we might be in store for a detroit/pittsburgh finals for the 3rd year in the row. 4, 6, 7, and an 8 seed in the east. I dont think any of the teams remaining in the EC can keep up with that potent cindy/malkin 1-2 punch offense. as for the WC, I think the Sharks/Wings series is going to be the team going to the finals. Blackhawks will win but are jinxed with Hossa on the roster. Pitt had them and we beat them 2 years ago, we had him last year and Pitt beat us. hes the postseason jinx.

yea those two haven't dealt with playoff version Chris "The human missile" Pronger yet. Flyers need vengeance...its time. Detroit is lucky to have made it to the second round, they will either be destroyed by san jose, or san jose will collapse, and detroit will lose to chi town.
SideOfBacon 04-29-2010, 12:47 PM we have dealt with pronger many times, regular season and post-season. MANY times. however, pronger's dirty tricks will not be tolerated by Abdelkader.
lucky to get passed round 1? we won 3 of the 4 games ON THE ROAD, no team has the veteran-ship or has many players as the wings have that have been here before. game 7 this round proved that, with a 6-1 rebound roll on the desert dogs. we could lose to SJ, but they are a post-season fail for pretty much the entire 2nd half of this decade. wings in 6 over SJ, wings in 5 over CHI.
chicago shouldnt even be in round 2. refs gave them the series. that hit was a misconduct which would have been an ejection. Hossa would not have been able to score the game winning goal like he did. he should have also faced a sit down of the following game, but the league did nothing. funny part is, only team that can have home ice advantage of the wings if they go finals is pitt, with detroit at a 5 seed.
hottest team since olympic break, with howard going 13-0-2. I dont see a single team being able to beat this club 4 out of 7, even with a rookie between the pipes. too much offense from datsyuk, hank, and franzen. along with the very veteran defense, nikki being easily the leagues top D, even at 40 years of age.

This is the same spiel i hear from every detroit fan every single year, there's no way we can be beaten...which means you should be winning the cup every year...nice work since the lockout...the invincible indomitable red wings have won a stanley cup....no more. Not saying that my team is any better, but im sick and tired of detroit claiming greatness when they've been a failboat as a dynasty...y'all miss scotty bowman madly.
that's me calling shenanigans...bring it detroit ;)
SideOfBacon 04-29-2010, 01:00 PM more cups than any other franchise in last 2 decades, 19 consecutive playoffs. 6 SC finals, with 4 of them won and losing last year in a game 7 for a near back-to-back like we did in 97 and 98 ;)
Feras 04-29-2010, 01:21 PM there the typical detroit fan goes, bringing up the long ago when we talk about the last few years, we all know you won a lot of cups back in the day, thank scotty for that. But recently your team has been a disappointment if you are the supermen of hockey that y'all claim to be.

the past? past 2 decades is not "the past" when talking sports. us Michigan fans bringing up the winningest program and all that is "the past".
SC finals last year losing in 7, SC winner year before, 19 STRAIGHT playoffs. 10 season streak of 100+ points. 4 cups in 12 years. these are IN THE PAST statistics, these are the now and going forward statistics. if I was talking past stats, I would be one of those leaf fans, "yeah, but we have the most SCs of any team in the league". yeah, but you havent won one since the 60s...

70s, but i dont go talking about how we're god's gift to hockey, and that anybody that tries to beat us is destined to fail. To say the team has dropped since bowman left would be accurate. Its not hard to win a lot of games when his genius put together a great team...but it is hard to sustain a dynasty, which these red wings are not. Babcock is successful due to his predecessors not his own talents.
Canadiann 04-29-2010, 02:01 PM 67 was leafs last cup, and habs have most cups in NHL history. I think it is going to be a good run on both sides and should be very interesting to see what happens, I'm predicting wings or Chicago in finals for west. hopefully my habs can have another good series and give the penguins a run for their money, but in reality I can see them making it to finals.
SideOfBacon 04-29-2010, 02:01 PM that genius who built the dynasy is still there, he goes by Ken Holland. Toronto's last cup was 66-67, not the 70s...
babcock just won canada a gold medal in the olympics. he must be a washup and only good because of his predecessors. lol.
detroit IS hockeytown.

SideOfBacon 05-03-2010, 07:15 AM detroit down 2-0 coming home. huge uphill battle here. being we only won 1 of 3 home games last series, I think we are all but out unfortunately. may be time to dust off the old golf clubs a few weeks earlier than the last 2 years.
good news is montreal took their 2nd game @ pitt yesterday. now just need to win all their home games to take down cindy.
also liked seeing the blackhawks fall saturday. when will teams learn that Hossa is a jinx. as much as I like Patrick Kane with what he has done this hockey season, both in the NHL and for Team USA in the olympics, I cannot stand Hossa or the blackhawks for that matter. hard to like any team within your teams division I guess.
If my wings fall out before SC finals, my hopeful matchup:
Vancouver v. Montreal
if the cups not in detroit in america, send it to canada!
Canadiann 05-03-2010, 08:31 PM Valiant effort by my habs! I'm hoping they can hold on, glad to see they can run with the ex-champs and be able to show they have what it takes.
deadphoenix52 05-03-2010, 11:29 PM Damnit chicago!!!
The Reverend 05-04-2010, 02:22 PM I'm really not to fond of any of the teams left in the second round. I guess I'm rooting for the Canucks at this point.
Is there a way that both Detroit AND San Jose can lose in this round
SideOfBacon 05-05-2010, 09:25 AM well my wings are all but DUN. this reffing has been ridiculous.
a team that had 2nd fewest penalties called against them in regular season over 82 games, manages 5+ per game this series. yeah, ok refs. the 3 goalie interferences when the goalie is a few feet from his crease, the slash on homer, multiple others i cant even recall right now. then the offside goal that stood lastnight to tie it 3-3. just give SJ the series and let the old men of dtown rest.
not even watching game 4 on thur or any other series, where I typically watch every single game I can regardless of who is playing or left.
refs 3, wings 0.
Canadiann 05-05-2010, 10:04 AM Although I didn't catch the wings game last night, I'd have to say as a whole the reffing in these playoffs has been terrible. Some of the most outrageous calls I have seen. I understand the game rules are changing but lets get real, its killing the sport of hockey. Way to many of these goalie interference, MANY MANY missed offsides and called offsides that weren't even close. Its all across the field too, not just one series. It almost makes the game un-fair and depend on who gets the lucky calls for the night.
The Reverend 05-05-2010, 10:09 AM I have noticed a lot of calls/non calls in the last few minutes of close games. It is almost as if the league has told refs to "keep games exciting" by either putting a team up a man at the end of a game, or just blatantly ignoring obvious calls to avoid putting a team on the power play.
Canadiann 05-12-2010, 01:39 PM Little Bump for updates... SJ vs Chicago in West, Game 7 tonight for Habs and Pens... Game 6 for Bruins and Flyers with Boston up 3-2... Should be an interesting game 7 and really looking forward to it.... Hopefully the Habs can close out the Pens in the arena just as they started... with a 2-1 win!
SideOfBacon 05-12-2010, 02:15 PM with wings out, reminders to update a faded thread get overlooked. updated, thanks canadiann for the reminder! crazy to think if Pitt loses tonight, a 6, 7, or 8 will be playing for the cup from the EC.
Canadiann 05-12-2010, 09:05 PM I understand where your coming from Cav, if the Habs were out I wouldn't pay much attention. Looks like i'll be checkin in here for a bit longer. Habs took out the defending champs Pittsburgh in game 7 with a 5-2 win! Good bye Pens, good bye Mellon Arena!
Munchy 05-12-2010, 10:12 PM fuck pittsburgh
go habs go
deadphoenix52 05-12-2010, 10:16 PM go canadiens!!! i love a good underdog story.
my pick for the cup tho is now san jose.
Kaiser bun 05-12-2010, 10:56 PM im a Hawks fan, but i think it will be tough to beat san jose
bobo201 05-13-2010, 02:18 AM I am so glad the Pens have been knocked out. i don't think i could have lived with Crybaby getting two in a row. Grats for the Habbs too. i hope they get further!
Feras 05-13-2010, 09:09 AM game 7 for the fly guys...this is gonna be bad ass. Habs-Flyers like cinderella and cinderella, you can't go wrong.
Canadiann 05-13-2010, 02:01 PM I cant decide what team would be better to win. I'd like to see Flyers be able to pull it off, yet I think the Bruins would be an easier team to face. Only time will tell I guess, just hope its good!
SideOfBacon 05-14-2010, 07:43 AM to think, a possible #7 to play a #8 for the trip to the SC finals... what a hockey year. and they say 16 teams in the playoffs is too many. goes to show that is not the case..
Canadiann 05-14-2010, 10:43 AM I guess it just goes to show ANYTHING can happen in playoffs. I really enjoy watching them because regardless of what seed you are, and how you played in the regular season, it's an entirely new game. Chicago/Habs in finals are my predictions. *Crosses Figners for Habs*
rubberduckie 05-14-2010, 02:45 PM Go habs!! If they win the east I am flying to Montreal. That will be one crazy party/riot
Feras 05-14-2010, 10:47 PM WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Canadiann 05-15-2010, 09:06 AM Congrats Feras and all the Philly fans. Look forward to a good series ahead of us! Should be great. The story of the Cindarella's. West - Seed 1 vs. 2. East - Seed 7 vs. 8. Crazy playoffs for sure.
Feras 05-16-2010, 08:59 PM canadians getting shut out by michael leighton...who woulda thought. and also flyers completing a frog hat trick, each of their three french canadians scored. QUEBECOIS!!!!!!!!
Canadiann 05-17-2010, 09:36 AM Boooo-urns.... aha I was disappointed watching that. Wish we could have got at least a goal. Flyers played great and were really on their game. Hope the Frenchies can step it up to make this a good series.
Feras 05-17-2010, 09:38 AM Boooo-urns.... aha I was disappointed watching that. Wish we could have got at least a goal. Flyers played great and were really on their game. Hope the Frenchies can step it up to make this a good series.
i expect them to come out firing in game 2, flyers better watch out and stick to the game, coz they tend to take penalties when they get frustrated.
Feras 05-18-2010, 08:49 PM Michael Leighton is like a weed dealer...everyone gets stoned. Notice how on the last power play chance for montreal when they got a smoker of a shot in on leighton, the announcer on vs. screamed out 'goooaaa...love save by leighton' that was amazing.
rubberduckie 05-19-2010, 01:54 AM Ottawa failed me, Vancouver than failed me, and Montreal is just plain shitting the bed. Might have to get on the Chicago bandwagon.
Canadiann 05-19-2010, 09:35 AM I know I am going to come off as a sore loser but I will speak my mind anyway. Aside from the unmatched goaltending of Leighton which cannot be argued, the flyers did not play that great. In my honest opinion the ref's in these playoffs have been horrible to say the least. Poking a guy after being hit is NOT a slash, these ref's are clueless and the rules being put into play in the NHL are just not hockey. The game has been changed in such a negative way you cant play the game the way it was created. I actually had to turn off last nights game in frustration for the penalties being called and how bad they were. After reffing a few years of hockey you begin to watch more of the ref's actions and how things are called and I believe there was a lot of garbage called, on both sides, and in the playoffs as a whole. Anyways I am dragging on and just venting cause the Frenchies lost. Lets go HABS and hopefully we can fix whats going on cause what ever is happening now isn't working.
Feras 05-19-2010, 10:06 AM flyers got outplayed last night for sure through the first two. yeah the refs have been atrocious all playoffs, inconsistent betwen teams more than anything else.
Canadiann 05-19-2010, 10:10 AM aha atleast I am not too far out of whack, at the end of the day though you cant win a game without any goals. so grats to the flyers for taking a 2-0 lead, hopefully we can make it a good series though.
Kaiser bun 05-19-2010, 10:33 AM chicago also got their 2-0 lead against the sharks, but for some reason they play better on the road so they will prob lose the next 2 lol
GO HAWKS!!!!
The Reverend 05-19-2010, 10:34 AM awww crap I was going to watch the CHI-SJ game tonight but looked at this thread :(
Feras 05-19-2010, 10:37 AM awww crap I was going to watch the CHI-SJ game tonight but looked at this thread :(
they don't play tonight, last night
SideOfBacon 05-19-2010, 11:19 AM well done Leighton. thought Flyers were done after Emery went down, but he has really done well after taking his spot between the pipes.
SideOfBacon 05-24-2010, 07:10 AM although I did not see SJ coming back from a 3-0 deficit, ANOTHER terrible refereeing call put the Blackhawks up 3-2 yesterday. definitely not a slashing call... and these interference crosschecks in front of the net when your player pushes the other teams player into you, what choice do you have to maintain balance from not going to the ice or into the goalie/goaltenders net? ever caught a crossbar square to the chin? doesn't exactly feel all that great...
dont know what to do, looking like a flyers v blackhawks finals and cant stand hossa or pronger. being a wings fan in the WC and having to deal with prongers shenanigans and dirty plays when he played for blues, oilers and ducks, its really hard to cheer for flyers. on the other hand hossa is a postseason douchebag and really despised my wings from signing him last season only to do what he did to the penguins the year before...
i think im just rooting for a good 7 game series I think. get the last little bit out of the hockey season that I can...
Feras 05-24-2010, 08:52 AM i'm not counting on the flyers being in until they are in the last time we were up 3-1 in an ECF we lost. I'm hoping it ends tonight and that the marian hossa curse continues, but i'll start with just tonight.

Montreal came back from a 3-0 against BOS, I dont see them coming from a 0-3 and now a 1-3... a near impossible feat.
Feras 05-24-2010, 09:50 AM Montreal came back from a 3-0 against BOS, I dont see them coming from a 0-3 and now a 1-3... a near impossible feat.
philly came back from an 0-3, montreal came back from a 1-3 with washington, near impossible is not the same thing as impossible. Scott Stevens has cemented that notion into my head.

this is true they were pretty inconsistent, but san jose shouldnt have had their second goal yesterday (or maybe it was first? can remember) an icing was called when i firmly beleive either teows or the san jose defense player had to have touched it, the icing put the faceoff in chicago's zone with worn out players and san jose got a goal right off the faceoff. Had it not been for the icing there would have been no goal.
(Sorry im a b-hawks fan and im sure your a sharks fan so we may never agree, but at least were arguing over hockey and not basketball lol)
Canadiann 05-24-2010, 10:36 AM Hopefully the Habs arent counted out just yet... they have made some great comebacks already in the playoffs, just hope their run isnt over yet. tonights game will be the hardest of the series. none-the-less if flyers do make it, it shall be a sad day and no clue who to cheer for...
SideOfBacon 05-24-2010, 11:41 AM this is true they were pretty inconsistent, but san jose shouldnt have had their second goal yesterday (or maybe it was first? can remember) an icing was called when i firmly beleive either teows or the san jose defense player had to have touched it, the icing put the faceoff in chicago's zone with worn out players and san jose got a goal right off the faceoff. actually a fan of neither :p:
I was rooting for Habs to win it all this year, after my wings went out. I am just sick of every game I watch I am seeing the worst refereeing in 20 years of watching the sport (only 28, cant remember much before 8 years old :p: ).
deadphoenix52 05-24-2010, 11:46 AM if philly wins tonight, my two least favorite teams in the playoffs are in the final.
Feras 05-24-2010, 12:13 PM if philly wins tonight, my two least favorite teams in the playoffs are in the final.
it was all on purpose to victimize you.
Kaiser bun 05-24-2010, 01:06 PM I'm a major fan of devils, b-hawks, and blues for one reason....
They all have major players that played at UND
Teows, oshie, and parise
Lol hockey is the only sport where we have famous people play in here in North Dakota... its sad tbh
ps. However i like the hawks the most because when i was playing hockey i was always the weaker, faster player and i enjoy watching kane compete strongly with the macho players, same concept as kariya who would domintate a lot of players at only like 5'9 or something like that.
deadphoenix52 05-24-2010, 01:10 PM it was all on purpose to victimize you.
yeah. i must've picked up some seriously bad karma somewhere.
my favorite team was first out. and this. lol. i wonder what i did?
deadphoenix52 05-24-2010, 01:32 PM oh noes

Feras 05-24-2010, 10:17 PM WWOOOOOO Bring it CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kaiser bun 05-24-2010, 11:34 PM lol ok lets get some tallys, who in here are fans of chicago, or philidelphia
SideOfBacon 05-25-2010, 08:23 AM ^ I am a fan of a good 7 game series with not caring who wins :D
Canadiann 05-25-2010, 10:26 AM Grats to Feras and the Philly fans! I'm sad to see my Habs go home but they gave one hell of a run. (At least in the first 2 series, think they had a hiccup). I shall be rooting for the Flyers as I think that is only fair to root for the team that obviously beat your team to be there. Should be a great series and I hope to see a lot of good games.
Feras 05-25-2010, 10:41 AM note to self, if the flyers win the cup, do not high five people from your moving car when out celebrating.. My arm is sore this morning.
RiderCoach Lar 05-25-2010, 09:17 PM I'm liking my Blackhawks against Philly. But whoever you're a fan of, you gotta take your hat off to Duncan Keith. Guy takes a puck to the mouth, spits out seven teeth and returns to the game and plays his heart out.
I wish I was half that tough!
DukeDerox 05-25-2010, 09:30 PM I dislike the Blackhawks...

you should research a hockey player known as ian laperriere if you want to know what tough really means. Teeth are nothing...a fucking brain contusion, concussion, 50 stitches and nearly losing an eye, and then coming back albeit not in the same game (earlier this season he took 75 stitches to the face and did come back the same game). Now thats heart, thats toughness. Keith was in the way of a clear...Laperriere put his face in front of a puck to stop a scoring opportunity and uses his selflessness as an example to those around him about what team really means. pssh to Duncan Keith, he's just a more flashy name since he's a norris candidate.
RiderCoach Lar 05-26-2010, 06:34 AM you should research a hockey player known as ian laperriere if you want to know what tough really means.
Don't need to research. I remember the game. Lappy was out of position on a Buffalo power play and ate a puck off the stick of Jason Pominville...and I think he DID return in the third period. I believe it was Lapierre himself who called it, "the dumbest thing" he had ever done in his career.
Wasn't trying to start a "who's tougher" thread. I think we're probably all mature enough not to waste our time with that kind of grade school crap. I was simply giving props to a player who recently showed what being a hockey player is about. The list...including Lapierre...is a long one.
See you at the UC Saturday night...
SideOfBacon 06-01-2010, 08:04 AM unfortunately looking to be CHI's year :(
just hope Flyers can avoid another SC finals sweep like my wings did to them in 96-97.
RiderCoach Lar 06-01-2010, 08:22 AM Why is that unfortunate!? Are you really a closet Philly fan?
SideOfBacon 06-01-2010, 08:33 AM no, was just hoping for a good series and really hate the blackhawks. im a wings fan, who is in the same conference of CHI. like most, you are supposed to hate those in your division.
Feras 06-01-2010, 09:29 AM i hate this...i think even if we win our games in philly its over.
SideOfBacon 06-01-2010, 09:31 AM comes down to a pivotal homestand Feras. I felt though, for Flyers to have a chance, they needed to take 1 of 2 in CHI.
Feras 06-01-2010, 09:34 AM yeah the problem was it was not without lack of effort it was with lack of faceoff wins, i swear we won like 2 in the second. close games take more out of you...then again this is exactly how the boston series went. and we are succeeding at stopping the unstoppable kane toews and byfuglien. I still don't know why krajicek and bartulis were left out after the stoppage on which the first goal was scored on.
We'll see wednesday that's all i have to say.
Kaiser bun 06-01-2010, 11:34 AM Ya, to me these games have been awesome, i caught myselft gasping for air numerous times on the edge of my seat during both games. So despite the fact that chicago has won both games, they are extremely close at least.
SideOfBacon 06-07-2010, 07:20 AM Flyers are all but about out... :(
Feras 06-07-2010, 09:36 AM flyers looked like fail last night...game 6 is game 6 though. And cav, as you well know last year the penguins looked like utter fail in game 5.
SideOfBacon 06-07-2010, 10:45 AM flyers looked like fail last night...game 6 is game 6 though. And cav, as you well know last year the penguins looked like utter fail in game 5.
Detroit does it every playoff year to 1 team each round. we utterly fail the rest of the 5-6 games in the series. a 6-1 win here, a 5-1 there, 5-0 underwear.
SideOfBacon 06-10-2010, 07:54 AM at least the cup is back to an O6 and Western Conf:Central div team :p:
man i hate chicago, lol..
2tone 06-10-2010, 08:22 AM congrats to chicago fans!
that last goal must be brutal for the philly goalie right now. what a crappy way to go down.
The Reverend 06-10-2010, 08:28 AM That must have been rough for leighton he KNEW the hawks were shooting 5 hole on him and from such a bad angle too...
Feras 06-10-2010, 09:03 AM well at least leighton won't be back. Seeing as how he cost us the finals in as much. congrats chicago. :(
The Reverend 06-10-2010, 09:28 AM you guys had a good run. Carter never got completely up to speed which was too bad
Feras 06-10-2010, 09:31 AM tough when you're skating on two broken feet and walking around in a boot when off the ice. Leighton + injuries = fail
RiderCoach Lar 06-10-2010, 11:31 AM Just got back home from a quick, expensive and VERY worthwhile trip to Philly. Didn't see too much "Brotherly Love", at least not from the Flyer fans at the WC, but was able to watch our Blackhawks hoist the cup....finally! No voice; no matter.
Time to get some sleep, stop at the office, then prepare for tomorrow's parade.
SideOfBacon 06-10-2010, 11:38 AM Feras: per convo lastnight, I think Leighton has potential. when you ride pine most the year and have pressure of a SC finals on your shoulder and aren't ready, this happens. Jimmy Howard's performance for the wings this postseason is another perfect example. I think with Emery still on the ice you had a legitimate shot, and Leighton (as I stated lastnight) did tie the NHL record for 3 shutouts in a single series. he is not entirely to blame. there was a lot of broken defense and bad calls (although both ways).
time to retire this thread and look forward to next year :)
wings have Hudler coming back, a year under Howard's belt, Lidstrom is returning, some good youth in GR may be coming up, looking forward to another hopeful deep postseason run.
Kaiser bun 06-10-2010, 11:44 AM yes the rephs were soooooo bad, i.e the goaltender interference on hossa... (WTF???!??) i know there were bad calls both ways too.... rediculous.
ps. Not to upset anyone but i really really really hate pronger LOL
ok now we can retire this thread :)
SoundDsnr23 06-11-2010, 07:58 AM I was in Wrigleyville to watch Game 6, what a ride. The celebration delay on the final goal was hilarious. Patrick Kane was the only person on the planet who knew that puck was in the net. Still recovering from the shock. 49 years... I've been a loyal fan of Chicago franchises my whole life, and we sure needed a championship (Sox don't count).
I know Flyers fans are going to tear Leighton apart for the soft final goal (and a couple others), but they need to remember that they wouldn't have gotten to the finals without him. They road on his back for some really big wins.
RiderCoach Lar 06-11-2010, 08:16 AM You've been a loyal fan of Chicago franchises or just those Chicago franchises who haven't been able to win a championship in over 100 years and likely won't do it in your lifetime?? You should consider becoming a fan of the sport, not just a team.
SideOfBacon 06-11-2010, 08:23 AM well put on the Leighton comments, SoundDsnr23.
Kaiser, as a lifetime Wings fan and having to put up with his antics and dirty plays when he played at Anaheim, Edmonton, and St Louis; I couldn't agree more with you. :p:
however, I was still cheering for the Flyers for the simple fact that I wanted Chicago to also have to deal with the Hossa curse that we had to last year.
Kaiser bun 06-11-2010, 01:55 PM Haha the hossa curse yes..... It was funny because third period 20 seconds left hossa had a clear shot to the net and it would have been EXTREMELY entertaining to see the crowds reaction if hossa would have scored the game winning goal.
ps. did you see big buff skating like a fairy with the b-hawks flag as the crowd was booing him? HAHA the boos just put a bigger smile on his face.
SideOfBacon 06-11-2010, 01:56 PM aye, that i did.
