joking aside this seems like a favorable year for the Sharks to get past the first round, maybe round 2 if they can compete with Detroit who are on a roll right now. Blackhawks are too fragile imho and don't have the goaltending for a long playoff run. I'd like to see the Canucks in the finals from the West.

I don't get to see the East that often during the regular season, but when I have seen the Caps play they just score so damn much but I'm not impressed by their goaltending or defense. Mike Green gtfo :jerkit: I don't think I've seen the Devils play once this year :dunno:

they're playing the Flyers first round which they struggled with during the regular season but Marty Brodeur and the Devils are playing REALLY good hockey. I think it'll be them or the Capitals coming out of the East.

The Capitals are a SCORING FREAKING MACHINE but I'll take defense over offense any day of the week, especially in the playoffs.
I think the Penguins are in trouble, even though The Kid is a stud, they have a tendency to seriously struggle against the top teams in the east. 0-6 against NJ, and I think 0-4 against Washington.


As for the West:
Canucks won't get far, Luongo looks TERRIBLE since the Olympics. (can't control rebounds)
Blackhawks aren't that impressive and goaltending will hurt them.
I gotta go with the Sharks I guess but they do have a tendency to choke in the playoffs.

I know it's a long shot (Despite San Jose's recent history) but I'd love to see the #1 seed choke in the 1st round.

Wings were the team to do it in the 90s. go in with pres trophy and choke first round. lost to SJ in 7 in 94, following the back to back cups they lost to Coyotes and Blues in first rounds. SJ did it last year as a #2, and is trying to do it again this year as a #1.

Brodeur was good Jedi, not saying he wasn't. only reason it was 3-2 L in OT versus 5-2 with no OT. but he is also 38 and flexibility in a goalie is a must. look on what note The Dominator went out on? riding the pine in detroit after being replaced by Ozzie and going on to win the cup. same with Turco, that cats gotta be getting close to OT, my how the retirements have started to affect the NHL I grew up on...

yeah, I remember the Dominator just not being the same anymore after he cracked the 4-0 mark and didn't he retire, take time off and come back? I think that really hurt him.
Marty is getting old and he's the last of the old-school Devils that I really loved watching (Claude Lemieux, Scott Stevens, etc) but I honestly think if he stays injury free he'll play 2 years, 3 max.

I knew the Flyers had our number during the regular season and I hoped the Devils would learn from their first 6 games (which they lost 6) and step up to the challenge. Nope.

My hat is off to the Flyers though, they played a great series and deserved to advance into the 2nd round.

Howard has looked good last 2 games between the pipes. back to how he was playing after olympic break. hopefully my wings can wrap it up at home on Sunday.

Could be looking at a lot of game 7s this round. 5 series's are at 3-2, and chi/nash are at 2-2 in their series.

Capitals could be looking at an easy road to the finals, possibly matched up against the 8 seed, now the 7 seed and the 6 seed leads their series 3-2. If Boston beats the penguins or senators (pending their series result), Washington would not have to play anything higher than a 6 seed to reach SCF. granted, flyers are playing some great hockey right now.

2 more series's close with Pittsburgh moving on with a 4-2 series victory, as well as San Jose also closing out in 6 games.

well my wings are all but DUN. this reffing has been ridiculous.

a team that had 2nd fewest penalties called against them in regular season over 82 games, manages 5+ per game this series. yeah, ok refs. the 3 goalie interferences when the goalie is a few feet from his crease, the slash on homer, multiple others i cant even recall right now. then the offside goal that stood lastnight to tie it 3-3. just give SJ the series and let the old men of dtown rest.

Although I didn't catch the wings game last night, I'd have to say as a whole the reffing in these playoffs has been terrible. Some of the most outrageous calls I have seen. I understand the game rules are changing but lets get real, its killing the sport of hockey. Way to many of these goalie interference, MANY MANY missed offsides and called offsides that weren't even close. Its all across the field too, not just one series. It almost makes the game un-fair and depend on who gets the lucky calls for the night.

I have noticed a lot of calls/non calls in the last few minutes of close games. It is almost as if the league has told refs to "keep games exciting" by either putting a team up a man at the end of a game, or just blatantly ignoring obvious calls to avoid putting a team on the power play.

Little Bump for updates... SJ vs Chicago in West, Game 7 tonight for Habs and Pens... Game 6 for Bruins and Flyers with Boston up 3-2... Should be an interesting game 7 and really looking forward to it.... Hopefully the Habs can close out the Pens in the arena just as they started... with a 2-1 win!

i expect them to come out firing in game 2, flyers better watch out and stick to the game, coz they tend to take penalties when they get frustrated.

Michael Leighton is like a weed dealer...everyone gets stoned. Notice how on the last power play chance for montreal when they got a smoker of a shot in on leighton, the announcer on vs. screamed out 'goooaaa...love save by leighton' that was amazing.

Ottawa failed me, Vancouver than failed me, and Montreal is just plain shitting the bed. Might have to get on the Chicago bandwagon.

I know I am going to come off as a sore loser but I will speak my mind anyway. Aside from the unmatched goaltending of Leighton which cannot be argued, the flyers did not play that great. In my honest opinion the ref's in these playoffs have been horrible to say the least. Poking a guy after being hit is NOT a slash, these ref's are clueless and the rules being put into play in the NHL are just not hockey. The game has been changed in such a negative way you cant play the game the way it was created. I actually had to turn off last nights game in frustration for the penalties being called and how bad they were. After reffing a few years of hockey you begin to watch more of the ref's actions and how things are called and I believe there was a lot of garbage called, on both sides, and in the playoffs as a whole. Anyways I am dragging on and just venting cause the Frenchies lost. Lets go HABS and hopefully we can fix whats going on cause what ever is happening now isn't working.

flyers got outplayed last night for sure through the first two. yeah the refs have been atrocious all playoffs, inconsistent betwen teams more than anything else.

aha atleast I am not too far out of whack, at the end of the day though you cant win a game without any goals. so grats to the flyers for taking a 2-0 lead, hopefully we can make it a good series though.

chicago also got their 2-0 lead against the sharks, but for some reason they play better on the road so they will prob lose the next 2 lol

although I did not see SJ coming back from a 3-0 deficit, ANOTHER terrible refereeing call put the Blackhawks up 3-2 yesterday. definitely not a slashing call... and these interference crosschecks in front of the net when your player pushes the other teams player into you, what choice do you have to maintain balance from not going to the ice or into the goalie/goaltenders net? ever caught a crossbar square to the chin? doesn't exactly feel all that great...

dont know what to do, looking like a flyers v blackhawks finals and cant stand hossa or pronger. being a wings fan in the WC and having to deal with prongers shenanigans and dirty plays when he played for blues, oilers and ducks, its really hard to cheer for flyers. on the other hand hossa is a postseason douchebag and really despised my wings from signing him last season only to do what he did to the penguins the year before...

philly came back from an 0-3, montreal came back from a 1-3 with washington, near impossible is not the same thing as impossible. Scott Stevens has cemented that notion into my head.

I was rooting for Habs to win it all this year, after my wings went out. I am just sick of every game I watch I am seeing the worst refereeing in 20 years of watching the sport (only 28, cant remember much before 8 years old :p: :lol:).

Grats to Feras and the Philly fans! I'm sad to see my Habs go home but they gave one hell of a run. (At least in the first 2 series, think they had a hiccup). I shall be rooting for the Flyers as I think that is only fair to root for the team that obviously beat your team to be there. Should be a great series and I hope to see a lot of good games.

you should research a hockey player known as ian laperriere if you want to know what tough really means. Teeth are nothing...a fucking brain contusion, concussion, 50 stitches and nearly losing an eye, and then coming back albeit not in the same game (earlier this season he took 75 stitches to the face and did come back the same game). Now thats heart, thats toughness. Keith was in the way of a clear...Laperriere put his face in front of a puck to stop a scoring opportunity and uses his selflessness as an example to those around him about what team really means. pssh to Duncan Keith, he's just a more flashy name since he's a norris candidate.

Don't need to research. I remember the game. Lappy was out of position on a Buffalo power play and ate a puck off the stick of Jason Pominville...and I think he DID return in the third period. I believe it was Lapierre himself who called it, "the dumbest thing" he had ever done in his career.

Wasn't trying to start a "who's tougher" thread. I think we're probably all mature enough not to waste our time with that kind of grade school crap. I was simply giving props to a player who recently showed what being a hockey player is about. The list...including Lapierre...is a long one.

yeah the problem was it was not without lack of effort it was with lack of faceoff wins, i swear we won like 2 in the second. close games take more out of you...then again this is exactly how the boston series went. and we are succeeding at stopping the unstoppable kane toews and byfuglien. I still don't know why krajicek and bartulis were left out after the stoppage on which the first goal was scored on.

Detroit does it every playoff year to 1 team each round. we utterly fail the rest of the 5-6 games in the series. a 6-1 win here, a 5-1 there, 5-0 underwear.

Just got back home from a quick, expensive and VERY worthwhile trip to Philly. Didn't see too much "Brotherly Love", at least not from the Flyer fans at the WC, but was able to watch our Blackhawks hoist the cup....finally! No voice; no matter.

Time to get some sleep, stop at the office, then prepare for tomorrow's parade.

Feras: per convo lastnight, I think Leighton has potential. when you ride pine most the year and have pressure of a SC finals on your shoulder and aren't ready, this happens. Jimmy Howard's performance for the wings this postseason is another perfect example. I think with Emery still on the ice you had a legitimate shot, and Leighton (as I stated lastnight) did tie the NHL record for 3 shutouts in a single series. he is not entirely to blame. there was a lot of broken defense and bad calls (although both ways).

time to retire this thread and look forward to next year :)

wings have Hudler coming back, a year under Howard's belt, Lidstrom is returning, some good youth in GR may be coming up, looking forward to another hopeful deep postseason run.

I was in Wrigleyville to watch Game 6, what a ride. The celebration delay on the final goal was hilarious. Patrick Kane was the only person on the planet who knew that puck was in the net. Still recovering from the shock. 49 years... I've been a loyal fan of Chicago franchises my whole life, and we sure needed a championship (Sox don't count).

I know Flyers fans are going to tear Leighton apart for the soft final goal (and a couple others), but they need to remember that they wouldn't have gotten to the finals without him. They road on his back for some really big wins.

Haha the hossa curse yes..... It was funny because third period 20 seconds left hossa had a clear shot to the net and it would have been EXTREMELY entertaining to see the crowds reaction if hossa would have scored the game winning goal.
