View Full Version : any graduates of UTI???? orangematics 01-27-2004, 02:56 PM I am thinking of dropping out of college and attend UTI (Universal Technical Institute). The tuition fee is around 25k...any suggestions?? cumpressor4u2nv 01-27-2004, 04:06 PM I don't get it. Are you paying 25k a year now, or will you be paying 25k a year while attending UTI? What do you want to do with your life? And what are you studying now in college? I wouldn't consider tuition as the most important criteria when choosing whether to drop out of college, but see if going to UTI and studying something that you'd like to do is better for you. noahprtlnd 01-27-2004, 05:38 PM My girlfriend gets UTI's all the time. I hate to say it, but that was the first thing that went through my mind too... Orange, what do you want to do- why are you considering dropping out and what does UTI offer that is any better than what you're getting at college? rx8kush 03-09-2010, 11:03 PM i was also thinking about that also anyone go to that school i dropped out of lincoln tech because i was not learning anything Fuster 03-11-2010, 02:10 AM prepared to pay 30k or more? if you decide to go, try to stay awake and pay attention. i suggest going to UTI and request for a tour. Hill 03-11-2010, 08:54 AM Trade schools, like any other form of "higher education" don't necessarily teach you the current substance of the industry you wish to enter. All colleges teach you the "process" of a given industry. For example, law schools do not teach you much about the actual substance of Law. They teach you how to navigate the legal system and you are left to learn the substance of law on your own because you may choose to specialize in a particular type of law. They teach you about a few basic Supreme Court cases but only enough to get you started. I know this because I attended AFTER I learned about the substance and had no problem debating my law professors, very few of whom knew the substance. The process is rather easy, actually. The same holds true for automotive trade schools, and this I know this from having been trained in the same fashion (although at the high school level, which turned out to be the same as Wyotech, UTI, Lincoln, etc.), from touring such schools, and from talking with other company owners who have hired graduates of these places. I was once told a few stories by a well-known clutch company about how his ASE-certified mechanics had no clue how to properly install clutches and he had to show them how to do it. They knew how to read the installation manual and how to interpret the exploded-view diagrams but they did not know the real-world details and nuances which separate the "noobs" from the experienced. This is true of any industry, though. Smoke Honda 03-11-2010, 12:00 PM Don't drop out of college to join UTI. If you're serious about UTI, join it after college. rx8kush 03-11-2010, 12:19 PM well i dropped out of lincoln tech and i am guessing that uti and lincoln tech are probably not that different from eachother so if thats the case i dont really want to go just going to continue fixing up beaters and selling them until i figure out what i really want to do Smoke Honda 03-11-2010, 12:39 PM I think you should just transfer to a traditional 4 year college. You can defer any loan you have from Lincoln Tech. I went to a aviation technical school right after graduating high school thinking I could get a job and not owe that much in student loans. Boy was I wrong. The only job that was available way in Kansas, Missouri, and Alaska. I waited around for about 6 months then I just applied to college. After I aced the first semester in college, I got a grant to go to the rest of school year. Then the next and the next. There wasn't such a thing for the technical school. I am still paying the student loans for it. lol But I guess the biggest reason you would have for going to college instead of a technical school. Two words: College Boobies! Very good experience, good hands on training, could use a bit more hands on training- (Ford Training Program) Its part of UTI, Extra 9 Grand. But worth every penny. But i must say, Graduate from college then go to UTI. Im planning on going to college now and study engineering. But the tuition for UTI is a bit over the top for a piece of paper. Go for it. pdxhak 03-14-2010, 02:30 PM Stay in college YaXMaNGTO 03-14-2010, 02:53 PM Dropping out of college for a urinary tract infection... fail. Had a buddy go to automative tradeschool. He regrets it. After paying for all the tools and boxes and crap, along with the tuition... and commuting to Houston to do it. He should have just gone to college in the first place. jiggawha1 03-14-2010, 03:02 PM yea i have a friend that did exact thing, he changes oil now.... bhop 03-14-2010, 03:03 PM Finish college, then decide. lilring 03-14-2010, 06:52 PM I agree, I attend Nashville Auto Diesel College and I have realize that I wont be able get as far as I wish to with out more education at a real college.
